Is there anyone here from the UK who would like to meet up and hand tracts out, outside the Manchester DS convention?

JWs & Thological Books by Non-JWs
by Spotlight inhaven't posted here for ages but thought this would be a great place to get some help with this one.. i have noticed a current trend among some jws who are in the habit of reading theological works by non-jws.
as far as i can see, the wt would certainly, at best, discourage this pass time, and at worst forbid it.
a jw apologist who reads such books is telling me that jws do this and are free to do carry on without hinderence from the wt in this area.

Hi all,
Haven't posted here for ages but thought this would be a great place to get some help with this one.
From what I have found, the average JW would never spend the time reading a non-JW theological book. But it does seem that the practice is becoming popular especially with some JW apologists (see the Yahoo jehovahbible group for examples of this).
My question to you here is, is this: When you were JWs (and for those of you who still are) how do you think this pass time would be viewed by the WT? Would you let others in the congregation be aware of what you are reading?
I have written a letter to the WT asking them for their view on this, as I cannot find much on this in my library of WT material. They haven't got back yet, but if they do I will be sure to post the URL to the scanned letter here.
I also have a fovour to ask: If anyone can afford the time, I would appreciate it if those with the WT CD Rom could look up what the WT has to say on this. That would be greatly appreciated as I just can't seem to get hold of one of those elusive CDs myself. Also, be sure that the stuff you provide me with will be put to wide use - I have a website and am writing an article on this whole subject.
Respect to you guys!

Russell's reason for using the Winged Sun Symbol?
by VM44 indoes anyone know why charles rusell put the "winged egyptian sun disc" symbol on the covers of his studies in the scriptures?.
particularly, did russell ever explain in writing the reason for his using it?.
this is a good article, but does not indicate if russell wrote anything in print specifically about the symbol's use on the book covers.. http://www.premier1.net/~raines/disc.html

Hi,
I haven't heard an actual explanation for this but, at a guess, its probably connected with his interests in Egypt (pyramidoligy), freemasonry, and general occultism. I have written a couple of articles on Russell's interests in these areas:

Hours on the Doors
by Spotlight ini wonder if people here could help me understand something (particularly ex or current jws).
i have heard that jws are required to do at least 10 hours minimum on the doors to be considered "active".
although there do not seem to be any written statements in wt literature, to this effect, it does seem to be something expected (almost like a talmudic oral law!

Is this situation different in the UK or is it expected worldwide?

Will Jehovah Forgive Your Sins If You Don't Confess To Men?
by Englishman inwhy is it that jw's insist that you must confess your serious sins to earthly men in order to "put yourself right" with jehovah?.
small isolated sins don't seem to matter much.
however, there does seem to be a finely drawn line that demands confession to elders.. interestingly, once that finely drawn line has been crossed that demands confession to elders, so too has the line of what constitues a disfellowshipping offence.. for example, occasional masturbation is just about one side of that line, do it while someone talks dirty to you and you've crossed that line and entered the disfellowshipping area.

Hi Narkissos,
Thanks for those useful quotes. Could you please clarify the reference though as I am in the UK and there can be confusion over the way references are quoted. I want accuracy as I may use the quotes you gave in afuture article I am writing for my site. Could you please write the actual month of the ref.. Thanks.

Hi all,
I haven't posted here for many months (probably as long as a year!) but do check in from time to time. This subject caught my interest though and I thought I would find out more about it.
I see a Bible verse has been brought forward in support of JWs confessing their sins to men but what about the WT's publications? Can anyone direct me to any references by the Watchtower on this issue? Thanks.

We will have to wait and see what becomes of all this in the next few days/weeks. I am sure more will come out on this, so watch this space.!-/Text-!>
