JWs trying hard to hide in obscurity right now
by Zoos inon other discussion boards where active jws participate i notice them deflecting questions about the royal commission in australia by bringing up child abuse statistics of other churches, ostensibly to demonstrate that there is nothing news worthy to see here... "move along!".
they are trying to make this story disappear into obscurity, irrelevance, as if it's just part and parcel of big institutional life, particularly of the religious nature.
oh, now they compare themselves to every other religion on the block?.

I'm not sure about other search engines, but i find that the search results for 'jahovah witness' in google is so much different this week compared to last week -

Would the discovery of EXTRATERRESTRIAL LIFE completely debunk the bible and religion?
by Black Man ini think it would.
instantly.
in fact, i hope one day soon that we somehow encounter extraterrestrial life because i think there would be a wholesale rejection of the bible and any/all religious institutions.

I guess it would not lose it's position for ET discovery.
The bible is too powerful. Not spiritually powerful but powerful in the sense that many new stories or new interpretations could be made up out of it. And it might end up as a biblical prophecy... just my crazy thoughts...

Grandchildren pay for the sins of their parents.
by Bonsai inmy wife's mother just related to us an interview she heard during the recent three day convention that she just had to share with us.
a brother and his wife have, for over 20 years, shunned their daughter because she ran off and eloped with a worldly guy.
while openly sobbing, he related how difficult it has been to shun his daughter and avoid unnecessary contact with her and her family.

perhaps worse than reptiles. When I mentioned about reptiles, I have no offense against the animals as those were their natural characteristics. A quick check on the internet to find out that even some cold-blooded reptiles like the alligators are actually one of the most caring mother to their children in the animal kingdom. (shame on the witnesses).
I just chatted with two jw elders moments ago and this was our second meeting. I'm the one who first approaching them to find out more about what's under their sleeves. I treated the meetings as casual coffee chit chatting time. But I believe they must have taken things too seriously. They must have considered me as their sheep/goat/student and the sessions as perhaps 'bible studies'. WTF lol. And they wanna make the meeting like a scheduled routine that is to meet me every Tuesday. These folks are funny, didn't they have better things to do?

The Watchtower is stuck in the 1950's for science
by HowTheBibleWasCreated insure they have embraced the internet and electronic media etc.
by their science is so far off it's sad ...but understandable.. the wt published several articles in the past dealing with reletivity etc.
yes great....100 years old science today.. where are the quantum mechanic articles?

science can only move faster than ever. the WTS could never catch up. they still spreading their version of science is because many people are still stuck in that era of science as well. probably because that era of science is easy to understand and probably there are still room for god.
however people today are getting more skeptical and more exposed to modern science. but don't forget the WTS always has a wildcard (aka joker) in their pocket, "Satan". When they are unable to alter, or twisting the quantum mechanics to support their cult, they would probably say that the world is controlled by Satan. It is always Satan's fault isn't it?

The Bible & J.R.R. Tolkien
by datto infirst of all, excuse me if the title seems big.
in fact, it is only about my very small doubt.. i'm not a christian, i only have very little knowledge about the bible.
it was told that about 40 scholars wrote the book but i don't know who combined them (or they never been combined).

First of all, excuse me if the title seems big. In fact, it is only about my very small doubt.
I'm not a Christian, I only have very little knowledge about the Bible. It was told that about 40 scholars wrote the book but I don't know who combined them (or they never been combined). The books tells about almost everything in the world and the good and evil. Even though they are written by 40 scholars at different period of time, they don't contradicts one and another. I also heard from Bill Maher's videos that many other myths form different places has accounts that there is a person who have similar characteristics to Jesus Christ centuries way back before the New Testaments.
I suddenly thought of J.R.R. Tolkien. He wrote The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. The books talk about almost everything as well and the good and evil. If I'm not mistaken, he even wrote a book about how his world was created. Tolkien borrowed many myths, his religion influences, the bible and his personal experience to make the books happen. He even invented a few languages, the most famous is the Elvish language.
My question is, is there any possibilities that how the Bible was created was somehow similar (or has any similarities) to how Tolkien's products was created?
The human brain tends to match whatever they see or hear to themselves. This is how a psychic plays his tricks on people. He simply say a few general words, and the believer will match those words to their past experience and conclude it's accurate. Can we use the same method, for example an incident happened, we find some words or sentences in The Hobbit & The LOTR, and say it's a prophecy?
Forgive me for the noob questions.... cheers...

How to get JWs to talk about disfellowship?
by datto ini have heard a lot about disfellowship from forums, blogs & youtube clips.
and all of them are real experiences from ex-jw.
however i have never physically met an ex-jw before.

I'm not a JW and will never be lol. I consider myself as atheist. I have family members who are JW. They are quite active however they are still at learning stage where they are unable to answer some of my questions. Whenever i do my research, i usually source from the internet, then find a way to get their clarification. I think this would be the best way as I will not make any judgement based only on the internet (to be fair to them). I even join their WT meeting yesterday to see what's happening there. I have exchanged some phone numbers with the elders and probably will find out more from them -

at first I thought it was just a picture of a lion in the background until the gentlemen on the stage (JW meeting) mentioned that it was Satan outside the window feeling angry to see black & white human having a meal. To me it is nothing special in the photo. It is very normal for human (regardless of what skin color), or sometimes with dogs or cats, etc, to have meals together. When it happens, it happens naturally and there's nothing to shoutout about. However the JWs feels great and happy to see that the lion is angry. They joked about the lion.
Why lion? who is racist?
From a meaningless photo, I suddenly find that the photo is full of meaning. THERE ARE MANY OTHER SATANS LOOKING THROUGH A WINDOW FROM THE OTHER SIDE OF THE WALLS!

Blondie's Comments You Will Not Hear at the 07-12-2015 WT Study (FIGHT SATAN)
by blondie inblondies comments you will not hear at the 07-12-2015 wt study (fight satan)(may 15, 2015 issue).

the wts usually says the devils main and sometimes only target are the anointed remnant and the other sheep are collateral damage because of their association with them..

I'm not a JW but out of curiosity and I find the topic "you can fight satan - and win" is so interesting, so I decided to join their meeting yesterday to find out what's going on.
First thing first, i'm not a believer of Satan's existence, however they have their answer in that brochure that says it is always satan's plan to hide himself so that we, the dumb human will easily be fooled by him. I don't really care about this, there is a sub-topic that raised more questions in my head.
Avoid Materialism and Love for the World
I think supposedly they are trying to say "avoid materialism and avoid love for the world".
Avoid materialism - ok fair enough, we all know sometimes materialism can really make people mad. However materialism is not all bad in my opinion. It has its own pros & cons like everything else.
Avoid love for the world - this is where i had a BIG question mark. THE WORLD? are they serious? do they mean the world as in the entire universe and everything in it including the Milky Way, our solar system, the Sun, the Moon, the Earth, mother nature & the animals (not forgetting that we are also animals and we are part of the world too). Do they really mean that? Does John 2:15, 16 really means that? if yes, WOW!!! who is the all-time chart topper when we talk about jealousy? Then the brochure says "Of course, not everything the world offers is evil. However, we should expect that Satan would use his world to exploit our desires and try to induce us to sin or to develop love for the world and neglect our worship of Jehovah". Is this statements from the bible too? where?
In fact, above is just a very small potion that I would like to question. There are many other stuff that I find worth asking for example racism. Thanks to Blondie for listing out plenty of'em. In the very short 90 minutes meeting, I have really learned a lot about them. I could see how small kids are tough to be actively involved in their activities and how they input their so called teachings into their kids brain well before the young brains have the power of reasoning. I could see how much they hate and laughed at their imaginary character called Satan. I could as well see there are many professionals (engineers, doctors, etc) who accepts 120% not only whatever is written in the bible, they accept 120% whatever is written by WTS too. Oh correct me if I'm wrong. their bibles are published by WTS too right?
