What proportion of Jehovah's Witnesses will make a convert in their lifetime?
by stapler99 inin another thread it was being discussed how inefficient the door-to-door preaching is, and i thought this raised an interesting question - what proportion of jehovah's witnesses will make a convert in their lifetime?.
in my experience, i can think of two or three people that my parents have studied with and who were later baptized.
but i know of so few baptisms that it is hard for me to think about it.

My dad 20+ years pioneering, 1 study baptized. And that's the only study that was baptized in our congregation while I was there. I attended there for about 7 years.

Yes, I've come to the conclusion that my parents will probably never wake up and that's for the best. They've built their whole lives inside the org, they'd have to start all over if they left. But I have hope for my youngest brother. He'll be 17 soon and I think he's going thru a lot of the same issues I had at that age, which led me to getting df'd. I'll just be here for him, unconditionally. And when he's ready to know the truth about the "truth" I'll show him what I know.
One thing that's helped me find some peace with this situation, I realized that while my parents are required to shun me, I'm not. I'm free to express my love for them and I will continue to do so. How they respond to that is up to them. No man or organization can dictate to me who I love or how I can express that.
ETA: Welcome to the forum, notbitter!

"Remember me as the one who woke up."
by OnTheWayOut ini know that such titles make such a thread seem like a "goodbye.
" not the case.
i may reduce my time at jwn because my path has taken me through a process of needing this forum less now.

Your own peace and joy are way more important than trying to teach or show them up.
Thanks for the reminder, OTWO. I agree. I haven't found that peace yet, but I think I'll get there eventually. At least, I'm free to find it now.

Fed. Judge Just Issued Worldwide Permanent Injunction Against Don't Ask/Don't Tell
by Justitia Themis inhttp://www.law.com/jsp/article.jsp?id=1202473278793&judge_issues_global_injunction_against_dont_ask_dont_tell.
a federal judge in california has issued an injunction barring enforcement of "don't ask, don't tell," the federal law banning service by open homosexuals in the armed forces.. u.s. district judge virginia phillips of riverside, calif., who on sept. 9 found that the law was unconstitutional, granted the global injunction on tuesday.
she wrote that without the injunction, "there is no adequate remedy at law to prevent the continued violation of servicemembers' rights or to compensate them for violation of their rights.".

Well, that's good news! I've never understood what horrible thing everyone thinks will happen. It's the military, you follow rules and orders. The effect of a repeal of DADT on the military will depend on how the leaders handle it. You follow their rules or you get kicked out. It's simple.

Are most JW's window washers?
by SlipnSlide ini have read this on this site and know some that do this type of work.
if most jw's are window washers, what other occupations are considered the type of jobs that a witless would have.

if you see somebody in Wal-Mart, and they have more than one bottle of Windex in their shopping cart, chances are they might be a Jehovah's Witness!!
Not important but, window washers don't use Windex. We used Joy dish detergent, the original unconcentrated. To this day, I can't stand the smell of lemon dish detergent. Reminds me of cobwebs and bug poo.

Question for Bethelites/ former Bethelites
by factfinder indid any of you former or current bethelites work at the 117 adams street complex?
were you proud of the expansive size of the facility and the huge amount of literature produced there?
were announcements made to you regarding production statistics and what you had accomplished there each year?

Why would anyone lie about being a witness or former witness?
Of the former Bethelites on this forum that I'm aware of, most left a long time ago. So I'm not sure that they would have the information you want. Honestly, I don't even know when the Adams St building was completed. I never paid much attention to the printing stuff. Last time we visited up there, I was 14.

My Dad was a window washer. My mom and I started a window business when I was 15. I paid for my first car with cash. It was good money, better than McD's. Both my parents have had cleaning jobs on the side, banks and offices, as long as I can remember.

Omg, I miss those cheese danishes! I haven't found any that taste like that since then.
We got to go to an international in Mexico. The convention was in Puebla. But my favorite part: we rented a condo south of Cancun right on the beach. We snorkeled nearby and saw all kinds of fish. We swam in ceyotes. We stayed in Merida for a few days, where they close the streets every weekend for dancing, music, and food stands. We went to Chichen Itza, where we climbed the 2 ft wide staircase inside the main ruin and saw the jade jaguar, we also stayed until dark for the constellation show. The stars were amazing! You could see the Three Sisters, each star! And the Milky Way...wow! And we looked down into the sacraficial pit where they used to throw the human offerings to their god.
That's the best thing I experienced as a witness.

All info outside WT controlled by Satan: looking for articles
by InterestedOne incould someone refer me to some wt articles explaining that all non-wt information sources are controlled by satan?
i've read that they think this, and it fits with their us & them mentality, but i would like to see it in writing..

I don't think you'll find an article that states that, except in reference to apostate literature.
The JW's I'm talking to seem to only do "research" using Insight on the Scriptures or Reasoning From the Scriptures and just tell me whatever those books say about Bible topics.
That comes from thinking that the whole world is in the power of Satan, the wicked one, the great deceiver. So they only fully trust what comes from the Organization since they believe it's God's channel of communication.
