Aww, come on y'all! Wiis are awesome! I want one too, lol! I think we find it strange because we never had the opportunity to act like that. I can't remember ever getting a toy I begged for, I can't even remembering begging for a toy. No wait . . . I got the fancy competition style jump rope I asked for in the second grade. But other than that . . .nope. I really, really, really wanted an easybake oven, asked for it once, was told no, and never asked again. My sister got it for me after we were df'd for my 19th birthday, lol! But I might have acted like those kids if I had got when I was eight years old. Of course, I would have probably been told to calm down and then got a talking to about materialism.

Were you SPANKED?
by unshackled indon't get all excited...i don't mean lastnight.
spankings were a regular occurence in my family, and don't think that was uncommon for born-in jws.
my parents loved the line "we spank you because we love you.

Yep, along with my brother and sister, after every meeting as I remember and for anything else that was deemed worthy of one, at least once a day. Where we live, DFCS family and children services will get called on you if you spank in public, so I assume it's done less or at least in private. One JW mom got them called on her after she smacked her baby on the face for biting her while breastfeeding. She wondered how else to teach her baby not to bite her. Well, I can think of a number of ways that don't involve hitting. Spanking is just lazy parenting, plain and simple. You're only teaching to obey, not why something is wrong to do. Okay, rant over.
My fiance, who was never involved with JWs at all, was spanked but rarely and only for major things.

What in the world is wrong with public displays of affection?
by Mad Sweeney ina comment or two made on the "gay glee" thread prompts this question.
a couple posters said that gay people shouldn't show affection in public and went on to add that even heterosexual affection in public makes them uncomfortable, or it isn't appropriate, or whatever.. my question is simply, why?.
my wife and i are very affectionate in public and i know it has honked off some people but we frankly don't understand why..

I feel bad for the girl.
Who me? Naw, I can deal with it when I have to. There's only one person in the world whose spit I'm okay with, lol! It's weird, I know.

Saliva or spit seriously grosses me out. That's why I don't like to see people making out in public. I can hear it and see it and if I'm close enough I can smell it, spit that is, blech. But I'm not gonna go tell someone to stop, I get away from it.

Granted, you don't have to reply. But if you want to discuss something, it's pretty much a given that you should be able to defend your position; otherwise it's not a discussion, just trolling. I'm also curious as to why you're still here after reading the following (that you wrote):
Well, I'm outta here. I initially started researching Jehovah's Witnesses because my wife has been studying with them so I can't digest anymore of the religious hate I'm reading here. I was shown this by someone here and told I needed to protect my wife:
http://www.sixscreensofthewatchtower.com/whoweare.html
Upper Room Ministries smacks of a religious hate group. This stuff won't alter anyone's thinking. For starters, I don't believe in a higher power, so whatever adverse consequences a person experiences as a result of blind faith in intangible, invisible beings isn't resolved by exchanging one religious ideology for another or being born again into another religion and engaging in illterate religious psyche warfare. All I could find in the book being studied with my spouse is some doctrinal differences from the way they interpret religious text.
http://www.jehovahs-witness.net/watchtower/beliefs/199643/1/This-information-source-not-for-me
It's been my experience so far, that anything a person wants to find out about Jehovah’s Witnesses, they can find out from Jehovah’s Witnesses. Any and all information ever published by Jehovah Witnesses is accessible to all. The quality of their personalities can be assessed in person at any Kingdom Hall and not just taken at face value unlike the numerous cyberghosts that run amok on the internet. Good educators present all sides of an issue and encourage discussion, but there are real problems with some former members:
- They sift the facts, exploiting the useful ones and concealing the others
- They also distort and twist facts, specializing in lies and half-truths
- They take sides with others that have deviated from the organization often slandering men who are no longer around to defend themselves
But shun empty speeches that violate what is holy; for they will advance to more and more ungodliness, and their word will spread like gangrene. Hy·me·nae′us and Phi·le′tus are of that number. These very [men] have deviated from the truth, saying that the resurrection has already occurred; and they are subverting the faith of some. 2 Timothy 2:16-18

I don't find it any more laughable than anything else Christians believe. They have their scriptures to back it up, it makes sense to them. I don't think it was just pulled out of thin air, some scriptures needed a better explanation and this was one idea. I don't really get it either but I can see how someone can believe it. I think if it was that important to the god of the Bible, he would have made it absolutely clear either way.

Freydo,
This is not Iraq. And we will not put troops on the ground in Libya. At least, that's what they're saying now. We'll see though.
The only measure that the resolution excludes is the deployment of "a foreign occupation force of any form on any part of Libyan territory." The Libyan rebels have said they want no such force, few if any foreign governments are inclined to send one, and Obama clarified today that he would not order any ground troops to Libya. Still, it's good to have the restriction stated explicitly, in order to avert a) the most slippery slope of escalation and b) charges (and not just from Qaddafi) that the U.N. action is a cover for Western imperialism.
