I understand what you are saying, moshe, and how frustrating the realization is. Yesterday I had a devastating discussion with a Jehovah's Witness on the WTS blood policy. This person was not aware, or had somehow forgotten, that there was a change in 2000 that allowed the use of hemoglobin for the first time. They were skeptical. But when I also said that even bovine hemoglobin is allowed, I got full blown incredulity. I must have stumbled upon some apostate site, they said. But I got the information from the official watchtower.org site and being confronted with the proof caused a tense session of denial followed by walking out on me. Why does this person believe so strongly in this Society that it cannot possibly do any tiniest bit of harm? Feh.

JWs love that " new generation" teaching- yes, they do.
by moshe infrom a discussion i had with an active sister this past week.
they had no "issues" with accepting the new generation understanding at all, she said.
all the brothers agreed with the reasoning, apparently there were no protests, murmerings or complaints.

Can You Reach Out to an Unbelieving Mate? - KM November 2010
by jgnat injust wondering, for other "unbelieving mates" who visit this site, how many of you fielded spousal interference this week?
for those of you who don't keep up on wt news any more, the november issue of the kingdom ministry contained the above titled article, with a few "helpful suggestions".
i give credit to my hubby that he respected my stand before and after the meeting, even as he harbored a faint hope that the sainted words of the kingdom ministry would reach out and knock me to my "senses".. in summary, the "suggestions" include patience, don't bring up religious arguments, show through your actions and friendliness that the "unbelieving mate"'s prejudices are unfounded, and if all else fails, get them when facing health problems or other crises.. the worst i fielded was directly after the meeting, when hubby asked me what it would take to join the watchtower society.

Mom, why is the atheist angry? UN General Assembly votes to allow gays to be executed without cause.
by bohm inun general assembly votes to allow gays to be executed without causegay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender people were once again subject to the whims of homophobia and religious and cultural extremism this week, thanks to a united nations vote that removed sexual orientation from a resolution that protects people from arbitrary executions.

the world is apparently so full religious nutjobs who think arbitrary execution of gays and lesbians is such a valueable thing, that a resolution to ban it cant get passed in the un.

There are probably two perspectives, of the born-in and of the convert.
From the convert's perspective, there has to be something Good that attracts an individual to become a Jehovah's Witness. It has got to feel good, else people wouldn't buy into the indoctrination. Having gone through the process myself over a period of two years but who was fortunate enough to escape, I know what the Something Good is. It's euphoria. I never felt more optimistic and ready for a big change in my life as I was at the time (1974-76), so being able to suspend disbelief and swallow the story line, as incredulous as it is, felt exhiliarating. Brain endorphins, I learned later - the body's own opiates. They are produced by the pituitary gland and hypothalmus and released to the brain during exercise, pain, excitement, love and orgasm and, as in this case, delusion. And just like getting off opium I crashed and burned when I realised it was all a big pile of crap. It felt really good for awhile, then really bad afterward but never as good as it feels now to have a much better founded certainty of what truth really is. Worst mistake I ever made in my life was to allow myself and my wife to be involved in that bunch.

I think the folks above have nailed it. An old ad for booze onto which the face has been superimposed. It was probably a newspaper or magazine ad for a single distributor or distiller so maybe an exhaustive Google search will turn up the original picture. Anybody recognise any of the labels?

Bombshell: Is the AJWRB for real?
by Nickolas init appears, from my recent visit to www.ajwrb.org that there is an underground group of practising jehovah's witnesses who are seeking to change current blood doctrine.
they call themselves the associtated jehovah's witnesses for reform on blood, or the ajwrb.
does this group actually exist?

I doubt we will bring it down
Perhaps not, but the work you are doing will not shore it up, either. I introduced your site to a devoted Jehovah's Witness this evening and the effect was explosive. This person had no idea about the lack of unanimity on blood policy among the rank and file and was almost physically shaken by it before abruptly ending our conversation and angrily walking away.
Thanks again, Mary. I trust you have received my PM.

Just my 2 cents worth but i have done a lot of playing with pictures and Photoshop and I would say it is not. The reproduction is very poor and to make the bottles blend in like that would be, in my humble opinion near impossible.
Maybe an old airbrush job. Faking photos goes back a long way.

Yeah, looks bogus. For one thing all the bottles have their labels facing the camera, which strongly suggests intent to put them front and center as the picture's subject. Second, it looks like he's deliberately posing with his booze, like he's proud of it.

Instant friends when you move cross country, as my wife and I often did. My wife still has several close friends in places that are thousands of miles apart. These are fine, decent people who also happen to be hoodwinked by the Society to which they adhere. There have been a number of assholes, too, but not many.
Another plus is the delusion that you don't have to die but, then again, being in la-la-land not unique to Jehovah's Witnesses.
That said, the scales are still definitely heavily weighted on the other side.

On a side note, wasn't there an article recently on the forum about China having a high percentage of atheist/agnostic?
Just the opposite, Tammy. China's population is estimated to be only 14% atheist/agnostic. see http://www.adherents.com/largecom/com_atheist.html
Is there any doubt how the WTBTS would have voted? One of the most disturbing things I've listened to recently is this Youtube item taken from a speech made by Ciro Aulicino. In it he actually chortles when he talks about Jehovah destroying gays at Armageddon. Quote from point 2:23 in the vid: "We will feel a sense of inner satisfaction. Our indignation will have been appeased. Yes, a sense of triumph that at last Jehovah's justice has been served. AIDS has been stopped. The gays are gone. The homosexuals, the lesbians, the murderers the drug lords, all gone. Are you gonna feel sorry for these people? (chuckle) no."
