Thing to remember is that pedophilia is not constrained to Jehovah's Witnesses, and in this case at least it wasn't covered up and justice is being done. Astute observation by Alfred and Gayle. Molesting a child is a dispicable, heartbreaking crime but it is when it is covered up and enabled that it becomes truly horrendous. It is the complicity in the crime, not the crime itself, that damns the Watchtower.

Cambridge: JW tries to entice 11 y. o. boy into having sex
by behemot ina jehovah's witness who tried to get an 11-year-old boy to have sex with him turned himself in to police after being told to by counsellors.. cambridge crown court heard kirk lefcovitch, 25, had repeatedly asked the child to perform sexual acts, as well as handing him pornography and sex toys.. despite his admissions, and previous convictions against a boy aged 8 in 2000, he was spared jail.. sara walker, prosecuting, said: in december last year mr lefcovitch asked the 11-year-old to expose himself, and the boy refused.. the defendant then offered to show the boy his privates, to which the boy replied that he didnt want to see it.. he then showed the victim some porn and told him he wanted to have sex with him.. there were occasions when the two spoke on the phone, and mr lefcovitch also made inappropriate comments then.. the court heard that lefcovitch had made a full confession to police, who were previously unaware of the incident, after being advised to do so by a counsellor at cambridges centre 33 an organisation which gives advice to young people aged up to 25.. georgina gibbs, mitigating, said: it is a very rare occurrence for an offender of this type to put themselves at risk and report themselves.. the defendant has been receiving help from centre 33 and his jehovahs witness group.. he is trying to go down a different course in his life.

right now we only have one car.
i got it out and she went in the back and made the call and verified the funds.

Banks are paranoid. There's just so much irrecoverable debt out there and they are minimising their downside exposure. My son needed some cash to go back to school for the next year but rather than just give it to him I agreed to cosign a line of credit for him. Fosters a greater sense of fiscal responsibility. So, I made an appointment at my bank and we went in. I won't get into numbers but I have a lot of investment assets with this particular bank and have been a customer of one or more of its branches since 1980. I also hold a sizable chunk of shares in the bank. I have their highest possible credit rating. But they put me through hoops to arrange a line of credit for a relatively piddling amount of money. They demanded two pieces of photo ID, my most recent income tax return and list of current income sources and amounts and cashflow projections. Then I would have to wait 3-5 business days for the application to be approved. Bank policy. I was most definitely not impressed. I remarked that I felt like some kind of stranger coming in off the street. The bank officer blushed and asked why I didn't just underwrite the loan myself. If I wanted to do that, I replied, I wouldn't be here, now would I? I was frankly tempted to pull the plug on them and take all of my accounts elsewhere, but it would be pointless. Point is, even if you already have funds doesn't mean the bank will treat you like you're not just another number.

Garyneal and I are in similar situations and we from time to time cross paths in threads like this. Oh but how I understand and feel your frustration, Gary. It is indeed sad to see an intelligent person so firmly entrenched in what she believes with her whole heart but you know to the depth of your being that she is a victim of cognitive dissonance. She does not see because she does not want to see. As you know I do not have the winning formula to change things around, but I know after 33 years what doesn't work. About some things I'm a slow learner. I'm trying love and acceptance toward her and being at peace with myself. At some point that intelligent brain, no longer under assault and in defensive mode, may just take notice and wake up all on its own (with a little bit of gentle prodding from me).

It's an appealing thought, your question I mean, but I think the opposite is more likely. The GB is indeed getting worked up about all the assaults of information but for them it's just starting to get exciting. They have new license to flex their muscles and assert their authority and really, who cares if a couple of hundred thousand people up and leave? The number of fresh, impressionable bodies lining up at the door may be less, but the Society is not yet haemorrhaging. Besides, this has all been foreseen. It is part of the Great Apostasy which requires Satan's spawn to be exposed and purged from the Watchtower before the onset of Armageddon. No one knows how long it will take. Perhaps an entire generation. Maybe even another overlapping generation. Oh, how much fun it is all going to be to punish all those who leave by forcing their friends and family to shun them.
The Watchtower is wealthy. It has the resources to weather any kind of storm over the lifetimes of any of the members of the GB. I don't think they're in agony. When I visualise them it is like the pigs in Animal Farm, drunk with power.

Reading through a lot of the posts in here one comes to appreciate how screwed up the Watchtower is and how much it screws up people it touches. I'm noticing differences, though, depending on who the posters are and where they live. Some are screwed over more than others.
Allow me to couch this in terms of mentality and oppression. It seems to me the bethel mentality in the US is not the same as the bethel mentality in Canada. Close, but not the same. The US bethelite is more steeped in the culture because he's right there. The oppression exercised at the bethels is unequal. I'm willing to bet that US bethelites on visiting the Canadian facility would comment that the atmosphere is a little more relaxed. But the big differences are in the congregations. I shake my head at some of the shit happening to posters. Some of the stuff that's going on in some of the congs is really screwed up but there are others where things are more harmonious.
Ultimately, how an organisation or society (or Society) behaves is determined by its leadership. The Governing Body is steeped in the culture of the Society and it sets the standard within a perceived need to be consistent but continuously improving (at which, incidentally, it fails miserably). The DO's and CO's are charged with the responsibility for maintaining consistency and enforcing standards but the extent to which they succeed in their jobs is directly proportional to their ability to do it. In other words, it will be variable. Within the congs there are the bodies of elders which are a fairly recent innovation in Watchtower command and control structure. Some of the elders described on this forum go above and beyond in exercising their power and authority and it is in those congregations you will find the greatest oppression. In others you will find more harmony because their leadership is less psychotic or rigidly zealous.
I'm getting the impression that there are poisonous congs out there. More poisonous than normal, I mean. Many of the elders in the congs have limited education and leadership skills and this is borne out by what they do to put bread on the table. Where else do you find a janitor or window washer who has such power over the personal lives of people? I'm getting the impression that some of the elders excercise authority with ignorant, callous abandon while others are more circumspect and compassionate. I'm also getting the impression that the wives of elders, who seem to have some greater influence on the cultures of the Kingdom Halls, are equally as inconsistent in their relationships with people.
Am I off base? Are some places worse than others, or is the Watchtower poison all the same?

by Dudu ini need an advice.... has been 2 months since i went to a meeting and or field service, i received a call from an elder saying that he wants my monthly report , i dont know what to do coz he is been calling me for 4 days now i dont want to answer the phone, but at the same time i feel like just sending the report.
the question is, should i fade slowly or just stop ?
my family isnt jw only my mom is inactive..
