With respect, it appears to me you are betraying a paradigm that holds some groups of people are better than other groups of people. Those groups who are inferior, in race or creed or otherwise, should be erased from the face of the earth so that groups of people who are superior, perhaps like you, should inherit it. Do you really want to say this?

Did the U.S. and the Allied Powers during WWII ever cause the death of innocent children? Were any children burned to death? Were any children orphaned? How is it that we in self-defense, or for political reasons, can kill and maim but if in the Bible the Jews do the same it's wrong?
Some of what the allies did during WWII was reprehensible. What the Jews in Bible did was genocide, that is why it is wrong. There are several good examples but the book of Numbers presents a fine one. It tells how Jehovah God incited Moses to attack the Midianites. Moses' army put all the men to the sword and they burned all the Midianite cities to the ground but they didn't kill the women and children. This infuriated Moses because it went against his orders, and he gave further orders that all the boy children should be killed along with all the women who were not virgins. 'But all the women children, that have not known a man by lying with him, keep alive for yourselves' (Numbers 31: 18). And what do you think the Jews kept those nice virgin girls for?

and if i had stayed in the borg....that would still be the case....alone i was dying inside slowly....the borg was drowning me in duty, loyalty to the organization, isolation, spiritual hunger, thirst for understanding- i had to leave too, i just didn't do it quite as dramatically as you did.. i don't know why you still feel the need to remain "missing" after all these years.... i just want you to know that i was tired of hanging on to the hurt and pain over you...i let it go when i left the borg.
and all i want for you now is peace & i pray that you are okay and safe, wherever you are..... chg.

I've been thinking more about this. Your peace offering appears to be an overture to your ex for him to get back in your life. Reaching out to him is kind, forgiving and generous, particularly when one considers what he did to you. Here was a man you thought you knew who left without saying goodbye and who hasn't felt the need to make contact in five years, if only to tell you he's ok. Now he may be reading this thread and considering a response, which appears to be what you want. Maybe he's remorseful and just hasn't been able to screw up the courage to try to call. That would be the fairytale ending. Given that past behaviour is generally a good predictor for present behaviour it could also be that you ex has not changed from the man he was five years ago, or he may have changed in ways that would disturb you. I wish you all the best but be cautious, dear lady.

Your question goes to a larger issue. Linguistics and knowledge are complimentary and tend to advance in lock step, as you yourself illustrated in the recounting of your conversation with the individual who went back to school a few years later and got his GED and AA.. I have noticed, forgive me for the generalisation, that many people in The Truth are subpar on several fronts, including linguistics. Goes with the territory, I'm afraid. This is not stupidity but ignorance, a consequence of horizons kept limited by an almost single minded focus on the bible and religious doctrine.
During a recent social gathering of a few couples, a dear friend and fishing buddy (who happens to be a Jehovah's Witness) piped up that evolution was stupid. The comment came completely out of the blue, without segway, and it caused the room to go completely quiet. He raised the point, I think, because he has been becoming concerned by my progressive slide toward atheism and he was itching to open up a conversation with me that might help me to see the light. He said, pointing to the cat that was curled up and sleeping on the rug, "See that cat? It used to be a fish! Pretty soon it will be walking on only two feet! How can you believe in something like that?!?" I was embarassed and said nothing in return, no-one did, and the conversation reverted to more neutral topics. It was, is, clearly evident that my good friend is incapable of a theoretical discussion on the process of natural selection and probably doesn't even possess the vocabulary for it.

My wife (a JW) and I (not a JW) were in a car with another couple (both JWs) when the other fellow (in an effort to break the ice with me who, besides not being a JW, likes science and technology) started talking about the 90 mpg carburetor that was suppressed by the big oil companies back in the 60's. My response was, "That's just urban legend bullshit." We drove on in complete silence. I guess it was something I said, huh?

Feelings are responders They repond to your thoughts. One thought that helped me early in the piece was that If Jehovah is going to destroy billions of people because they have not read a WT then he is a bastard and not worth knowing. That if the GB's threat was true "obey us or Jehovah will kill you" then I would prefer to die with those that are so unjustly condemned for such a pathetic reason
