i was at the congregation bible study recently (aka "book study") which has been expounding in depth regarding the 1st century's unbelievable resemblance, in organizational terms, to our modern-day governing body and how big decisions are made now.

What was the significance of all the focus on the foreskin? The WT has tried to make a case that it was God's wisdom for humans health to remove it, even though God created man with it. A design flaw followed by a manufacturers recall? The health angle has been proven untrue. And the practice by the Israelites of mutilating the dead Philistines by cutting off the foreskins and bringing them back to the King. etc etc. What the hell?

The reality is, "shunning" in the Jehovah's Witness context is not so much shutting someone out in the cold 'world" as it is the cult strategy to try and keep the rebels ( mentally diseased) from messing with the carefully programmed mindset of the Organisations program. They have no other way to fight against the obvious shams they expect all to follow. year after year, no matter how plain their perfidy.

i don't think there are more pedophiles in the religion than there are in others.. i understand that one is too many.

but i think some believe that it's an epidemic within the organization.

i believe their 2 witness rule can help pedophiles secretly abuse kids.. but i don't think that this particular crime dominates those in the religion.. .

have been a member of jwr since 2008 and have not been to hall since june 2009, have celebrated 2 yrs without memorial - woohoo - that being said i have stopped by here frequently and decided yesterday to join your group.. it has been very enjoyable to read your stories as well as the other group i have been with, and so it just seemed reasonable to belong to both.. my story is no differant than all the others, the only thing is i was not born in.

that being said i also have no real issues with being an apostate (although i do believe it is used in the perjorative sense by the wt).. peace - brad.

First of all, I watch several news channels and I have seen no "up in arms" reporting on Fox any more than CNN.

Secondly, it seems a terrific waste of their energy and our public resources that this movement has not expressed their issues plainly, preferably through a spokesperson.

Picket signs are a confusing source of communication for those who would like to know exactly what it is they are demanding.

i have never ridden/driven a motorcycle or a scooter.

but, i'm thinking about getting one.. in fact, a chinese scooter!.

they get 100 mpg on gasoline and they are under $900 bucks.. .

this led to all kinds of unpleasant, unloving situations.

This thread seems even more a true picture of the JW's today than when I posted it 5 years ago. The focus of tattle tales today are remarks that could indicate a "mentally diseased" member of the group. Sexual misconduct, etc. used to dominate the traffic in gossip, now it is based on comments or attitudes observed regarding those who have apparently stumbled into the easy availability of intelligent and justified challenges of the ever changing "Truth".

when i was studying all i heard about was the un banning religions.

Another item that seems to have disappeared from the Watchtower "boogy man" play list is the Catholic Church. I grew up with booklets all over the house depicting the Pope and his bishops as evil demons. In the past it has been their favorite symbol of Babylon the Great. Now that the pedophile issue has hit home it seems the WT has lost interest in the ripe target of the Catholic Church.

Not meant to hijack the excellentWT/ UN observations this thread is providing, but it seems to be of a piece.
