my bf and i are thinking on getting married.

i posted a foum early this week on whether or not i should get baptized.

i decided not to.. now even though he says he "doesn't care" he got upset last night when i mentioned the subject and how confused i was.

You sound awfully pressured to me, and to be honest, you don't sound like you're going to put up much of a fight if they start to really push you, (which they will). Quite honestly, getting baptized may well be the single most dangerous thing you will ever do in your life. Personally, I can trace back a list of bad things in my life that point to one pivotal point. My baptism. I cannot tell you how much I really regret that decision, above all other stupid things I've ever done in my entire life.

Your situation worries me. Sounds like either your boyfriend doesn't know what he wants, or he does secretly know what he wants, but is scared to tell you.

At the end of the day, the choice will be a simple one for him. Pick either you and lose his family, or pick his family and lose you.

There are no grey areas with JWs. Most people would probably advise you to give him the elbow, as this will not work out well for you.

If you believe in demons, which things you still believe?

some here still believe in demons, therefore you still have some beliefs associated with demons, demon possesion, demons getting into furniture, black cats, bad luck, etc etc etc.

what things do you still believe regarding demons and why do you still believe it?>.

I don't believe in demons, but know 2 people that claim they saw them. The interesting thing is, they said these demons were little blue men. These guys are from opposite sides of the world, saw the demons in different countries, and have different beliefs/traditions. I find it fascinating that somebody can recount a story which is, to all intents and purposes, about a smurf! (These folks aren't, and never were dubs). One guy saw his smurf when he was contemplating suicide on top of a building, and it encouraged him to jump and 'screw everybody'. The other guy saw a smurf while he was renovating an empty house in the countryside. He said that they portend a huge windfall. (He never got rich).

If I ever saw something like that, I certainly would never recount it to a friend. On here, maybe, coz nobody knows me.

I believe the human mind sometimes buggers up, even for the most rational of people. Anecdotal accounts are always real, because the person who saw them insists they were real. The experience is real to them. If my mate sees harvey the pink rabbit in his yard, and at the same time I don't....then what? How do you test stuff like this? I don't think this kind of stuff will ever be able to be tested empirically. period.

The only thing god put in my heart was cholesterol. An innate desire for chips and burgers.

hi u guys,.

lately i've been doing a lot of reflection about my life.

sometimes i would have overwhelming emotions come up ranging from anger, bitterness, sadness to relief.

When I was a child, given the choice of going in field service or standing in the corner of a darkened room for 3 hours.... I'd take the corner. Just think of your kids. I would give them happy memories of their grandma, not traumatic. Make their together time free of JW overtones. Otherwise, they'll have sullied memories of a grandma that they couldn't relate to.

it's becoming clearer and clearer that i need to muster some sort of strategy for countering the mr's indoctrination of the kids.

now some of these kids are stepkids, so that makes it a bit hairier.

but for our youngest, i will need to think about how to teach her other things too.

Hey Libelle,

Speaking from experience, I was always curious about evolution at school. I was told to block out what the teacher was saying during history/humanites lessons. I think that had I actually learned the whole truth about evolution from a young age, I wouldn't have swallowed the WTS bull. I would say teach them a lot about science, anthropology and evolution. I realise this ain't gonna happen if you want your kids to develop some kind of spirituality. My take on it is this... let your kids be kids, and when their mind is mature enough and serious enough, then they will be able to explore a spiritual belief, or disbelief. My view is that the WTS is so dangerous, I would willingly sacrifice them actually having any kind of spiritual belief, rather than have their life screwed up by a dangerous cult.

Maybe you will now have to show them the way. Teach them that it's okay to question anything...not just religion. Teach them how science developed over the years... How the catholic church opposed the great thinkers like Galileo etc. They will soon draw conclusions that an organization can be closed-minded, obtuse, just plain wrong. They will see parallels with the way the Watchtower operates.

Maybe you could get interested in nature programmes? A lot of them are slanted towards modern scientific thinking. Even if it's not your 'bag'...you're gonna have to make it so. When you watch TV as a family, it's an excellent way of subtley influencing their thinking. Your kids may well find an interest in it too, if they see you are enjoying it. My mother especially hated anything nature/science related, as she said it was all satan's propaganda and lies.

Having grown up as a JW from infancy, I would suggest you need to break the chain of thought that Jehovah is this personal god who looks down on your kids and watches everything they do. The indoctrination that they need to be worried/guilty about anything they do is something that runs deep for JW kids. If Jehovah is not real to them, they won't be pressured into thinking that questioning is wrong. A parent's example is a powerful thing. A child will take notice of how their parent acts, and be persuaded to think that they too should do things jehovah's way. If their parent sees jehovah as a real person, the child will be likely to follow suit.

It will be difficult to try and show your children that your other half can be wrong about something, while at the same time trying to maintain your children's respect for his opinion. I would say try and teach them a bit about all religion, and get them to try and understand how different religions started/developed etc. Try and include the JWs in your discussions, so they can see religion in a broader spectrum.

I tried it once with a friend when I was a little kid and got zilch. I was a JW kid and knew it was wrong and thought something bad was gonna happen. I think the best way to test if it works is to make your own board out of rough sandpaper, and cover it with a really sticky syrup. If the planchette moves on that, then you've got your answer.

my bf is one of jw mainly to please his parents, since he doesn't believe half the stuff they preach.

now i'v been going to the meetings for over 2 years partly because is pretty much the only way i'd get his parents approval.

i am in the process of studying the bible to become baptized.

Welcome Justbreathe. You're really lucky to find this forum at this stage in your life. Lots of people on here are recovering after watching half their life disappear down the toilet. LWT is right. Run! Run like hell! Every hour you spend at the meetings is an hour of your life that the society has stolen from you, and can never be taken back. You'll probably encounter lots of bitterness on this forum, and rightly so. Just take notice of everybody's feelings and learn from it. The Watchtower is evil, and their belief system is flawed. Don't waste another moment of your life doing any more meetings/personal study/field ministry. You cannot put a price on time. It's yours, don't let them take it away from you!
