buddy system??
by grumblecakes ini searched to see if there was already a thread on this but didnt see one.... .
i was thinking about this weird-a@# struggle we have all found ourselves in and one of the worst things about it is not having a soul in the world to talk to.
we find ourselves isolated from those who know us best, those we've loved dearly and the new people we surround ourselves with could never begin to understand (non-jws).

Steve makes some good points. I think that this site could be more helpful/User friendly to other potential users/newbies etc, by perhaps having a better profile for our individual users. For instance, if our profiles could have not only our anonymous Avatar, but maybe a brief few details..... like this....

Current status: baptized JW, D/A for 10 years
Religious beliefs: None. atheist
Open to PM and Skype: Yes, at weekends
This would help other users find likeminded persons to ask advice and form friendships. It would help people make informed decisions about who they really want to take advice from. Let's be honest, there are some fruitcakes on here.

New Here
by FingersCrossed ini've been browsing and reading threads here for a while.
i am never a jw, i am in a relationship with an inactive one, who in fact is in the middle (not knowing what to believe anymore).
i have read some of the threads here about stories of those who have experience with jws and mostly ended up hurt but there also some who made it.. and some of the threads/info/works that you all have done here are really great!.

Hi Fingercrossed,
Welcome to the forum! Yeah, even an inactive JW might go back in. It happens. It would be good to get him to at least read Crisis Of Conscience, also Steven Hassan's Combatting Cult Mind control. They're pretty unbiased, so go through a JW's bullshit filter quite easily.

They were deeply rooted in Polytheism, and also had very localized deities in some parts of the empire. I can't understand why they would want to fabricate a monotheistic religion based on a middle eastern faith. Respect for their own pantheon of gods bordered on nationalism. they praised power and victory. I think a religion based on love and consideration would be very alien to them, and they would just see it as weakness.
Also, this happened around the time of the jewish revolt. There were probably several self proclaimed messiahs. If you wanted to invent a new deity, just for arguments sake, you would want his circumstances and appearance to be unique.... not embroiled within an uprising, revolt, and appearance of many crazy zealots.

Powerful questions to DEBUNK the Universal Sovreignty issue
by Black Man inok, we've had some great posts about the universal sovreignty issue over the years.
i'd like to have this post be about powerful common-sense questions that get right to the core of unraveling it for the nonsense it is.
when i talk to jw relatives, i'm sticking with the strategy of just posing questions instead of arguing with them.

I always thought the issue of Universal Sovereignty was to prove before the multitude of angels that jah had the authority to rule. I would assume that the angels were created immediately cogniscent, unlike humans, who become self-aware at around 5 years old, and can retain memories. Angels would remember immediately as they were created, the fact that they had been created. There would be no need for faith on their part that Jehovah created them. It would follow that he had authority to rule, being their creators. They would have witnessed his creation of the universe and planets, mankind and animals. It seems totally illogical that he would then have to vindicate his right to rule before eyewitnesses in heaven.

What did you do with all your old publications?
by Dark Fader inso we had spent years building our "theocratic library" of bound volumes, books and other materials.
personally, i boxed everything, taped the boxes closed and threw them in a dumpster at a construction site.. i did actually feel bad though.
that was a lot of paper which could have been recycled!.

I burned all mine on my log fire. I 've noticed that with all WT literature, they don't burn very well at all. The WT and Asleep magazines actually put out my fire if I use a lot of them at once. Poor quality paper. At least they're consistent in every way.
