lions and housecats are the only felines that form groups.
pack members who get sick or injured and become unable to keep up w the pride are left behind.
interesting ideas satanus and I agree that jehovahs witnesses have much in common with animal packs but there are significant differences.
One outstanding difference is that the animal pack leader leads from the front, putting himself in harms way. In contrast wts leaders are hidden away, insulated and protected from danger to such an extent that they do not even know the conditon of the flock/pack.

I think the NWT needs retranslating as some of the distortions are downright embarrassing. The appendix which tries to explain why the NWT uses the name Jehovah in the NT at certain places is also embarrassing. I think it may be a good idea to write in requesting that these distortions be examined asap.

wozza, I'm getting the impression that some members of JWN had very bad mothers and are basing their conclusions of women on their own bad mothers. But even in this scenario one needs to take on board the anti women stance of the WTS and the effect this would have had on your mothers.
For my own part I know that as a mother I was not a willing participant in WTS views on parenting but did the best I could in the circumstances thinking there was no other way. Much of the best I did I won't do today as my mind and heart are questioning WTS mysogny.

Sounds like a misogynistic rant. I think it's more a case of men seeking power over others than anything else. I would see the woman's part through history as the same as slaves. The hope of a "heaven" or "paradise", where they are no longer in subjection. |
I agree with beks but would add that perhaps not all men were so, as it was mainly the elite men who were like this. They had the power, the money and the influence and did what was good for themselves and to maintain their own postion and power. The primary sources we have were written for them and by them. The picture of Olympias, Alexander the great's mother, needs to be seen in this light.
However closer to our own time during the time of the enlightenment, educated men once again clamped down on women as very often they were drawing from the older primary sources and basing their opinions on their own mysogynistic observations. So women and slaves were lower classes because according to their circular thinking they were not seen to be doing anything else and were therefore not fit for a public life (their private lives were very restricted too). I wonder also if Miguel de Unamuno falls into this category.
However I'm not suggesting we don't read what they have to say but that when they touch upon women remember their biases. Writers who challenged stereotypical images of women and slaves were very often painted as radicals and revolutionaries and jailed/put to death or died penniless and forgotten.

nickolas I'd go even further and say that if they didn't have a choice they can't be said to be willing. I'd prefer to say dissenters (which included men and women) were silenced. People then made the best of the situation that they found themselves in. This to me is not willing submission.
Terry if you are saying that religiouness incorporates traditionally feminine elements/factors (like softness, love, peace, bonding, compliance, meekness, mystery etc) more than traditionally masculine elements/factors like (solidness, pride, strength, rigidity, duty, transparency, reason, logic etc) then I would agree with you.
