  aguest, I was a lurker here when you denied what I and a couple of other posters had regularly experienced at macdonalds. I'm not going to say anything more than that because I know that your worldview is paramount and nothing I can say will change that. no hard feelings. However I think it is important to argue against you from time to time as exiting jws have to confront discarding an old reality whilst forming a new one and then perhaps even questioning new realities and so on. It is mind boggling in itself.

  Meanwhile enjoy your memorial and if I am around I will be happy to participate with you here on JWN if you are unable to attend your meeting at the KH.

  However, if anyone watched the program, perhaps they will see as to my point: that what we "know" as "fact" regarding human evolution is subject to change, too (one camp believes Hobbit is a human species and states it as fact, another does not and denies the "fact")... and so to call out folks from other camps who change THEIR "facts" is hypocrisy. BOTH camps could just as well say, "We don't know, but what we THINK is..." IF that is what they're demanding of the other. Unless, of course, they truly do know. Given the holes... and possibilities (i.e., undiscovered/misunderstood species/beings) in this subject, I don't know how they can say, for sure.

  perhaps this is just your rhetoric from your legal training. If this is the case I can't understand why your supporters jump up and down when anyone takes you to task aguest.

  much of the discussion seems to be counterproductive.. i'd like to propose a different approach.

  we all know what each other's conclusions are (or at least we should by now).

  very funny clarity but it reminds me of my visit to the dentist recently - he wanted to sell me a tooth whitening smile product that would have set me back £400. You ony need to have your front teeth done" he said "because your back teeth don't show when you smile".

  thank you bohm. yes, I see that no 1 has a more prominent canine. The jaw is also more forward thrusting, and the forehead seems to be less prominent

  doctors are not gods or elders. we don't have to accept what they say as gospel truth. (edit an important recent revelation for me)

  They are simply experts in their field. A lot of what they seek to diagnose and treat relies on investigative procedures. And if I disagree with a doctor I will say so and ask for explanation. the doctor will then explain (if he has not already done so) that his findings are based on preliminary investigations and that these findings suggest certain conclusions in his expert opinion but that he will only know for sure once he has carried out more investigative/treatment procedures.

  At the same time parents are experts on their children, I know I am. My intuitions about their state of health is often spot on. I did not have as much of this confidence in my relationship with my children when I believed in God.

  however, can there be an a priori experence, one that is objective, outside the bounds of personel experiene, or does it remain subjective?

  Hi quentin, I agree with you in that when the experiences, the ones that are open/common to all humanity, for example, when they become our own personal experiences we then add our subjective take on them - if we are a buddhist we will recount them from a buddhist persepective and then too from our particular standpoint of being a buddhist, if we are christian we will recount them from that perspective and so on. But before they become our personal experiences these experiences are neither subjective nor objective - I guess we could call it the book of life and we are in it.

  From the atheistic standpoint, an event can move a person. It could be a song or a movie or something a child says or does. Certainly, people are more "moved" by their own children. In the song, "Cats in the Cradle" the father realizes his boy was just like him. That's a "spiritual" moment where no God needs to be involved.

  yup - this is how I see it too
