Jehovahs witnesses are as political an organization as any other, making canny manoeuvres when necessary. Dressing it up as new light from Jehovahs is the canniest of all. There is no reason why we ordinary jehovahs witnesses shouldn't get political, seeing as we are so well trained.

Rutherford's Doctrines are Dead and so are the Reasons for JWs House-to-House Ministry
by AndersonsInfo interry, a very astute poster on jwn recently started the following thread of interest:.
when i read the posts on terrys thread, i was reminded that in my last two articles, which can be read on freeminds and were posted recently on jwn by randy watters, i discussed the changes made to two major old watch tower doctrines that have definitely affected todays door to door ministry of jehovahs witnesses: .
1) the teaching, vindicate jehovah's name," officially changed in 1993, after seven decades of use, to "sanctify jehovah's name" (which is more in line with the lord's prayer, "let your name be sanctified").

how nice that there is a free book to download - my thanks to Trevor Willis the author.
safireblue this comment of yours kept sticking in my mind
All I want is the truth. No bribes, no gimmics, no guilt trips, no scare tactics.....I simply want to know what the bible requires
what I will say and what I have found useful is to think of truth as something you turn towards and then truth turns towards you. The key is to think of it as movement - towards and from - a dance on the horizon like when a pilot negotiates to level a plane. The pilot can make turns, dives and somersaults whilst remaining in motion -the levelling tools he has helps him stay on the horizon. I think that intuitively we know that life is like this - movements towards truth and the experience of truth moving towards us along with all its hardships. Where we get stuck is when we want to make life and truth static to make it pure and good and this is what happens when Jehovahs witnesses and other religions say there is one truth, or that they have the truth or they are in the truth. Perhaps what they are alluding to is that they experience the movement of truth in their lives and I would not have problem with this however they seek to go beyond this and try to make truth into a cold hard dead thing (like a beautiful marble statue) and perhaps you sense this disturbing aspect and are put off by it.
I hope this helps you a little as in you opening post you are very clear in your desire to find truth. Feeling disoriented or in darkness is not necessarily that you are far away from truth, it may just mean that you are changing direction -(like the pilot) and in my opinion changing direction is a part of living life as movement.

"Remember me as the one who woke up."
by OnTheWayOut ini know that such titles make such a thread seem like a "goodbye.
" not the case.
i may reduce my time at jwn because my path has taken me through a process of needing this forum less now.

Works of Nietzsche, Paine, Wilde
by SweetBabyCheezits inin the past, i was hardly keen on reading for pleasure but i have been cracking open some of the more, uh, classic(?
) writings lately in an attempt to broaden my limited understanding.
i'm pretty taken with thomas paine's the age of reason at the moment but i've also come across a number of quotes from nietzsche and oscar wilde that make a great deal of sense to me.

bringing this back as I didn't mention that I was arguing against Terry and I'd like to know what Terry has to say in answer.

this is an interesting thread that I must have missed. I am reading Neitzche at the moment and am also attending a philosophical debate next week.
According to my understanding of Neitzsche the governing body mechanism of Jehovahs Witnesses are the lesser/weaker folk doing bad to the stronger folk. Neitsche was not suggesting that stronger folk take advantage of weaker folk although it is possible for people like Hitler to read him like that. Hitler was not a strong man, in my opnion. He was a weak man seeking to overthrow the strong. And this is what an organizaton like Jehovahs witnesses has in common with Hitler.
Neitzsche can be very inspiring when read philosophically. He was against religion because he believed that religion in some forms holds people back by making them responsible and guilty for things they are not guilty of or responsible for. THis is another example of the lesser/weaker existence holding sway over a stronger existence and imo this is what Neitzsche was warning about. We can read him not as criticisng physical illness and phsical weakness but as criticisng a sickness/weakness of the will to do something. I don't think anyone here suffers from a weakness of the will to act

If you CHANGE what you said was TRUE...How could it have been true??
by Terry inif the bible says anything; it says what it says.. what is said doesn't change because nobody is continuing to write it.. the bible cannot change, then.. god's word (if that is what the bible is) doesn't change.however, if any person or group interprets the bible's doctrines and the doctrines change, then,it must be the interpreter who is in error.. (i call it "error" because; why change it otherwise?).
who would have enough hubris to risk representing god's word one way---and declare it truth--only to change that truth into something else?.
answer: the watchtower society!.

This does show that Jehovahs witnesses are a man made organization who are tossed about their own opinions.

thanks for sharing your journey to atheism. I have also thought long and hard about an indifferent universe but will leave that discussion for another time. I am also looking forward to your discussions about evolution as you make some thoughtful, clear points that make sense.
