HI Levi and welcome. I was very active and prominent in my circuit. Then one day I just did not feel like going back. After 4 or 5 months an elder called and left me a message to call him back. I did not. About 6 weeks later a different elder left a similar message and I did not return his call. That was it. That's fine with me!

Thank you Think About It. Yeah that is a classic. The kid was actually listening to the speaker and thinking about what was being said, and then evaluating it. How mature!

In a public talk the speaker was talking about how Bible principles can help us make changes in ourselves. The speaker acknowledged that even he himself had to make changes and that he is still working on various "flaws". A little toddler said, "But you still suck!" just loud enough for those around him to hear. I had to give the kid credit for sitting quietly and actually paying attention during the meeting., as opposed to sleeping or playing with toys.
In another congregation, a toddler, perhaps 2 yrs old, kept fussing and whining and fidgeting about during the meeting. Normal child behavior. The mother kept grabbing him and making him still still. She kept putting her finger to her lip to signify "shhh" while giving him stern looks. Finally the kid had had enough; when the mother did it again he looked her in the eye and said "God damn you!" and spit in her face. Then they left.

My JW wife wanted to throw a costume party. Any advice.
by garyneal into all active and former witnesses (elders especially), i have a question.. .
she indicated that she wanted to include her witness friends as well.
however, given the fact that we are in the month of october and costume parties in this month are associated with halloween, she did not know how to throw a costume party without making it look like a halloween party.

Just tell everyone they have to dress as Bible characters or modern-day witnesses. Like the "drama" at the conventions.

Elders Wives/kids
by exwhyzee inhow many elders wives or kids have looked at the congregation files without their husband/father knowing about it?
anyone here have any knowledge of this.
how foolish anyone is to go to these people if they keep a written record/file on you.

My experience has been that in some congregations the elders wives/mothers-in-law tell the elders what to do. They actually run the congregation. Things such as meeting times, what day/time to clean the hall in preparation for the Memorial, Kingdom Hall decor, who gets to work with the CO. If they don't like your clothing or grooming or the way you pronounced a word on the platform, they have the elders talk to you about it.

Back in 2003 or so I needed to take a temporary break from being a MS. I had too much going on with work, my aged parents' illnesses, and so on. After discussing this with the elders, we agreed that for a few months I would not be given any assignments. It was as if I was a publisher but I was kept on the "list" of MS, apparently because I still retained the "spiritual qualifications". No announcement was made to the congregation. After a few months I met with the elders and said I was ready to take on assignements again. However I did have the option at that time to say that my circumstances had not improved and were still keeping me from taking on assignments, in which case I would then have stepped down. During this time I was still regular in FS, mtg attendance and participation.
I don't know if this option is available today or not, but you could ask your elders about it.

When I was fairly new there was this elderly sister - late 80's - who had been to Gilead, pioneering, done it all. She was still very sharp at the time and always out in service. She always had all the answers; no one could ever argue with her.
One day I was working with her in field service and we saw on the ground what appeared to be a tract. We picked it up so it wouldn't be left there like litter. After we worked a door I looked at the tract and realized it was not from the Society even though it looked very similar to the Society's literature. Yet it wasn't from "Christendom" either. We concluded it was from "the apostates" so I wanted to crumple it up. But the sister said, "No, let me have it. I want to see what they have to say." So I gave it to her.
What I learned from that was that this sister whom I respected and looked up to was open minded. She was not afraid to read it just to see what it said, whereas I was afraid to because I might immediately become posessed by demons or something. After that, I never came across such literature but if I had I would have done as this sister did, discreetly put it in my pocket to read later. Then, after reading it, if I disagreed with it I could dispose of it. After all, I wanted the householders to read "my" literature with an open mind.

bottleofwater you're right about that. Especially if they ask probing questions. For example, many years ago the PO asked me out of the blue, "Is there anything unscriptural going on at your house?" to which I replied, "No there isn't." I found it odd that he didn't ask something more specific. Nothing was "going on" anyway, but if he was trying to investigate you would think he'd be more specific. For example "Are you having a problem with [specific matter, perhaps pornography, heavy drinking, whatever]?"

Thank you for the welcomes.
Yeah apparently this guy was on the websites, and maybe the person studying with him found out. I do know that this individual was hanging out with DF'd and DA'd people which would be how he knew about the sites - but that was none of my business so I certainly never confronted him about it or told anyone else.
That conversation with the elders was weird. What they were saying, was, "We already are certain this is not true, and we don't trust the person who told us, and even if he is telling the truth we cannot do anything about it, but we want to ask you anyway."

Hi everyone, I'm new here. Been lurking for over a year but just now registered.
When I was a MS, someone who was "just studying" apparently wanted to get me in trouble and told the elders that I told him I often participate in "apostate websites" (which was not true) and that I had told this person to visit the sites. He even provided the elders with a list of websites. Two elders had a committee meeting with me and asked me about it, as they held the list in their hands. I explained that I was not familiar with any such sites; I knew they were out there but I never visited them and never told anyone to view them. They said they didn't think so but just wanted to make sure. I then suggested they ask this accuser how was he able to comprise this rather extensive list. They replied that since he is not baptised they can't do anything about what he does. They also alluded to the "policy" that 2 witnesses are needed in order for them to take action. I was wondering to myself, "Well then why are we even having this conversation?"
This shows that of they even suspect someone is viewing this or similar sites they want to find out about it.
This accuser then started drama with others in the congregation but quickly faded away.
