Nightmares when active JW
by MissConfused ini remember when i was active, i would constantly get nightmares regarding armageddon.. used to wake up so many times at night watch my window, pray hard and try to go to sleep.
now i wonder that this organization was really succcessful in making people scared to death about 'current system of things', but why would anyone do that?
why would anyone want to bring division in families, make hate speeches, scare people to death, etc?

In the lead up to 1975, as we were "prepared" for tribulation, I had nightmares about my young children, fleeing from some imaginery enemy and having to carry the younger ones in our arms ... of being caught and seeing our kids bayonetted to death because we refused to reveal some important organisational secret ... starving and thirsty etc etc.
It really was a terrible fear, nothing quite grabs your guts like danger to your children *** ...
1975 came and went (and apparently, all that preparation never happened - because now, the collective memory of the witnesses denies it did).
In 1976, Brooklyn sent a former Aussie branch overseer out to Australia in an attempt to soothe things over ... Dougie told us, the big A could be 20 years away, let alone the nearly 40 years.
Still that's nothing like the near 2000 years that the entire Christian body has been waiting for Jesus to make good on his prophecy of Luke 21, which promised the end for his generation..

Funny LisaRose, that's what I liked.
I'd rejected conventional Christianity (Anglican) at about age13/14 as 'mere entertainment'* - but when I went to my first meeting (PT/WTS) I was impressed with the studious atmosphere.
I thought the speaker was a bit boring, though. Can't even remember what the talk was about. For the record, the speaker was one Theodore Jarasc, then the branch servant (overseer) in Australia. (In the days when the branch office was at Strathfield).
I was introduced to the speaker during the break between the PT and the WTS. I do not think he was impressed with me, maybe it was my buzz haircut, lairy shirt with seagulls, and pale blue jeans.
* The church my parents forced me to attend was an old colonial Anglican church, in which you sat in a sort of box with high walls. I found I could read a book if I sat in a different one to my parents, so I used to smuggle a thin book into church to read. That went OK to someone looked over the side and told my father.
I then sat in a box that had a grave in it, the grave of one commandant of the penal colony that had been there in the early days and who was so hated by the convicts that they threatened to dig him up and smash his dead body to pieces. So he was re-buried in the church. I'd sit in the box that contained the grave, remove the trap door, and imagine the dead commandant jumping up out of his grave, and all the congregation running out of the church screaming, So, you see, churches ARE entertaining

All religions delude people - Christianity, Buddhism, Islam, hinduism, as well as the fringe ratbags.
But it has to be said, that some people may not be able to survive life, without the delusion that Allah, Yahweh, Jesus, Buddha etc, is looking after them and actively interfering in and manipulating their life so as to overcome their problems and crises.
Our particular problem was escaping the clutches of the Yahweh mob. But I've hung around Mormon sites and Pentie sites, and the wannabee escapees from those religions have much the same problems and experiences that we have had.
Everyone heard's Karl Marx's expression, loosely translated as ... "Religion is the opium of the people." But the context is much more enlightening than that idea alone. And, of course more pertinent to his times than ours, but still pertinent to the individual trapped in his/hers religious delusions.
The foundation of irreligious criticism is: Man makes religion, religion does not make man. Religion is, indeed, the self-consciousness and self-esteem of man who has either not yet won through to himself, or has already lost himself again. But man is no abstract being squatting outside the world. Man is the world of man - state, society. This state and this society produce religion, which is an inverted consciousness of the world, because they are an inverted world. Religion is the general theory of this world, its encyclopaedic compendium, its logic in popular form, its spiritual point d'honneur, its enthusiasm, its moral sanction, its solemn complement, and its universal basis of consolation and justification. It is the fantastic realization of the human essence since the human essence has not acquired any true reality. The struggle against religion is, therefore, indirectly the struggle against that world whose spiritual aroma is religion.

Re-reading my last post, which I wrote in too much of a hurry, my rather heavy-handed sarcasm did not make the point I wanted to make.
I wanted to draw attention to the different development of musical entertainment in the two Koreas. In the north, the state controlled media is very conventional and conservative, very similar to what we were encouraged to 'like' as servants of the big dog in the sky.
In the south, with a high degree of personal freedom (except not being allowed to say, that NK is good), the direction the musical entertainment industry takes is quite different, as I attempted to demonstrate. Of course, the South Korean industry is controlled by corporations, who, at least in the case of popular music are just as controlling as the north, except that the criteria for control is not rigid party dogma, but what the corporation believes to be the best way to sell their music. The kids who are signed on for these groups, are nearly as rigidly controlled as in the north. Break the corporation's rules and your out of your group.
So the two fan videos (the compilers of them almost certainly gay) consist of PR clips from corporation sanctioned shows etc. Interesting that they play around the gender fringe of sexuality.
I am not criticising either approach, just trying to be an observer.

U may be pleased to know SBF, that the election will be on Sept. 7.... so now the shit and mud will really fly, and any rationality that may exist in Aussie politics will disappear into the great heap of muck that sits in Canberra.
I will not be voting, or rather to save me a JW flashback, my vote will be informal with something rude written on it.
Why so? because there are no genuine democracies. What we have in Australia (and most, if not all, English speaking nations) are a couple of large self-perpetuating oligarchies (just like the WT Corporation) (OK, there are some small ones that are just as hopeless) that set up a list of candidates and then use sales and marketing techniques to try and get people to elect them.
These oligarchies do have some public membership, that they usually manage to ignore, but its interesting to note that the membership of both Aussie political parties is somewhat smaller than an average sized football club. Both of the two main oligarchies in Australia have a key concern. That is to get elected to office. That's all.
