This can't be for real can it? How do they know whether you can count time with the game or not? What authority do they have to say that? Also, I thought counting time was for being out in field service or talking to unbelievers. Do JW parents typically count time when talking to their unbaptized children about doctrine, etc.? If that's the case, I guess I answered my own question - playing the game counts as "witnessing" to your children and you keep track of the time to report it to the elders?

Where is that "Hidden HOOK"?
by Terry ina number of years ago i started doing something i had never done before.. i started questioning the basic premise of things which cause arguments.. why?.
long running controversy usually contains a hidden premise both sides buy into without knowing it.. by backing up one whole step and questioning the basis for the hidden premise the problem quickly goes away.. .
it looks yummy.

So does the Society still bill the congs for their literature orders or not? If yes, I would be interested if anyone here on the inside could provide a sample bill (like if a secretary elder could provide a sample breakdown of how it works - nothing confidential, but accurately depicting the process). If no, does that mean the congs order as much literature as they want, and the Society sends it all for free & the cong only pays shipping - is there no accountability at all between how much literature is ordered vs. how much the cong sends from the "www" box? Does the Society not have any means of keeping tabs on which congs are running a "deficit?" If they do have a method, how do they specify the dollar amount to determine that deficit?

And if the magazine and book counter doesn’t send in enough money to cover the “free” literature, the congregation is cut off from receiving more until their
“bill” is paid. They literally send them an bill!
Is there a chart of the current prices per item that the Society uses to figure the bill? If not, how do they determine how much the cong owes?

But so what?
What I got from PC's post is shown where he highlighted the sentence in which the KM says the contribution boxes are not only for the literature. He brings out an interesting point: if they're not only for the literature, what else could they possibly be for? The KM spends an entire paragraph listing various things like branch offices, etc., but all those things exist for one purpose: to create and distribute the literature. Therefore, the KM does not seem correct when it states that the contribution boxes are not only for the literature. From what I can tell, they are in fact only for the literature, so I think he asks a fair question: "what am I missing?"

Clarity - Your comments help me to clarify some aspects of the WT operation. I once saw Publishing Cult compare it to Amway in that the WT's biggest consumers are its members - so an important part of the operation is to get more members. I would like to see this Amway comparison developed further. I guess you could say any religion recruits members & eventually asks them to donate. However, I think there is something different about a group that expects the members continue to consume a steady stream of its own literature. Something about having a tangible product in your hand makes you feel like you should give some monetary compensation, even if the expectation is not overtly printed on the product.
