Shy JW at the door ... the pain of it

someone tweeted today: "a jehovah's witness who is shy to people at the door.

those few words paint such a sad picture.

how many jws with little self-esteem and self-confidence, particularly born-ins who have never known anything different, are sent out into neighbourhoods to knock on the doors of strangers and speak to them, knowing the householder resents them being there?

I'm unable to agree that you necessarily have any more talent than anyone else. What I draw from your words is your self-confidence and ego. You probably did not care what the householder's negative reaction might have been, or did not take it personally and you probably enjoyed the attention when you were on the platform.

I hated the door to door activities. Yet for some reason I pioneered for years and others said I was good at it. However, I still felt a tightening fear between each door that I was never able to get rid of, and I don't miss it for a moment.

The topic was about being shy. Posters were not saying this was a universal experience, so your 'we' style preachy last paragraph was not needed. Perhaps you still miss it...

God does not use Angels any more than he uses Donald Duck or Sherlock Holmes, because they are all fictional.

AGuest is not fictional, but in that case a similar argument still stands, because God himself is fictional instead.

@ Mebaqqer2 thank you for the posts. They were very informative - I have always wondered about Dan 10 and Jude 1 and why various angels/gods would be fighting amongst themselves as if they were princes over particular peoples. Your well researched explanation helped me a lot.

Sometimes I read so much dross and see so much uneducated bickering in this forum I want to leave and never return, then your posts (and previously many from Leolaia) completely change my mind. I just need to skim past the crap better, without getting sucked into it.

become an agnostic.. since i discovered this site over 6-7 yrs, we have.

I agree with BOTR that the site has helped me to place my experiences in context. It was not immediate, but now I am atheist. I don't think the site is responsible, I have just managed to advance past Go and now have a 'get out of religion free' card.

I once read the King James Bible. It was a black book with gold edging. I once saw someone putting gold edging on a book. It was hard. The binding was leather. My grandmother once kept a cow. There are many people who kept cows in those days but not so many translated the Bible. It was a hot day in July.

I remember it well. I think it's nice to remember. People remember all sorts of things, and then they did the best with the available knowledge. I can't understand why I am writing this. I can't understand a word of what I wrote either, but I, Band on the Run, needed to write something so here it is.....

I would suggest the primary reason is a lack of elders. It's not possible to split the congregations until there are sufficient 'qualified brothers' and anecdotal evidence is the number of elders is not growing at a similar rate to the plebs pubs.

OK, What is this summer's District Convention Theme?

got the news this week as to where we are going to be, but, the elder making the announcement couldn't tell us what the da's theme was.. is this now a secret?

The theme is "Genitals Like Donkeys" and all attending are encouraged to wear the convention badge at all times.
