Can the greek word used @ 1 Cor 1:15 for firstborn (pre-eminent) also mean first-created at the same time? or is that completely incompatible?

Continuity of the Bible - Start to Finish
by tyu ini was asked in a previous topic whether i thought the bible had continuity in its thought/teaching from start to finish, from old to new testament.
you can argue from specific passages taken apart and out of context that the bible contradicts itself, but, all in all, there is one message-that of love, a father's love.
the bible is the story of a father who creates a family (beginning with adam and eve), but they break their bond with him.

Tec :
"But God does not punish a son for his father's sin."
Easily proven incorrect.
Read 2nd Samuel 12:15 : "Then Nathan went to his own house. And Jehovah proceeded to deal a blow to the child that the wife of Uriā²ah had borne to David so that it took sick."
Ya... pretty much.

CO will sit in on my "study" this week: any suggestions?

we did pars 17-20 last week.
this week, the co is in town, and my conductor is having him sit in.

If your study is terminated, they won't think it's because the org's answers weren't satisfactory, it'll be because you weren't "honest-hearted" enough to believe in them.

Question on Donations By Credit and Debit Card
by lurker inrecently there has been mention of assemblies with credit card machines for contributions.
it was also mentioned on the last six screens call i think at the stanley theatre.
has any one seen this taking place?

The generally considered worst idea of using credit is for things temporary and with no value at all (good debt versus bad debt). For instance, you can use your credit card for a lunch at McDonalds or a trip to Hawaii, which would be very bad in the eyes of any financial planner. However, using credit for things like work tools that would make you money overall and betters your financial condition.
Thus, donating to any religious org via credit card must just about be the worst use of credit ever!

Difficult Scriptures for Jehovah's Witnesses
by restoretherepublic ini have been out of the jw's for about 18 yrs.
of course i'm still interested in what's happening (news, changes, etc) with the religion, but i am very far removed from it and busy living my life.
i've been going to a non-denomination type church and this particular church's format is to go through the bible in a consecutive manner, scripture by scripture.. in doing so, i always come across scripture and wonder how the jw mindset can explain away or mentally accept the material.. i understand that much can be lost in the new world translation and jw's never touch upon some scriptures.. recently, at church, we have been going through colossians.

restoretherepublic, as far as I can tell, even if a Witness actually reads the Bible (and I have yet to find one who has, even the NT), it seems that they read it with a "veil" (as Paul wrote) over their eyes. The words are bouncing from the page to the eye, but are not passing to the brain. I don't think they genuinely "want" to know what the Bible actually says, but can you really blame them?
What's the purpose and point of trying to determine the meaning of something in the Bible? If it doesn't match up with what the boys in Brooklyn have decided it means, you'd have some serious cognitive dissosance to resolve. It's much easier to either A) not read the Bible or B) read it like a dime-store novella and simply brush over it's meaning.

For Paragraph 22 and the physical resurrection of Jesus, you could look up John 2:18-23 and Luke 24:38, 39 with them and ask them to reconcile the idea of a spiritual body versus a physical body resurrection. Fun times!

Did You Ever Fink On Another Witness?
by minimus indid you ever tell the elders that you knew of "wrongdoing" or that you knew a certain person wasn't adhering to the rules?.

I squealed on some elder's kids when I was a bright-eyed 15-16 year old. This was after my first real "party" with lots of liquor, petty gambling and other activities (groping) going on. I guess nothing really "happened," so nothing was done about anything.. ahhh, I was so naive!

[endif]the watchtower society and jehovah's witnesses worldwide are under the power and influence of a governing body of leaders.. compliance with the directions of this governing body is mandatory because of their claim to supreme authority.. the source of the authority of the governing body of jehovah's witnesses is claimed to be the currently reigning king jesus who personally selected.

Personally, I wouldn't bother with the movie. The book is so much more powerful and is definetely a classic, even outside of the JW's.
For a thorough comparsion of the JW power structure and George Orwell's vision, try and get your hands on the below book:

I have only read a portion of this via Google Books, but it seems quite good.
