Cygnus,
Sorry to hear about your grandfather, my condolences.
I've been 2 a few JW services and it's true man, they use it as a way to preach their message.
It sounds like you have an elder who is a friend of the family, so he may be more inclined to follow your wishes.
It's good to know that your family are able to treat you properly despite your choices in life.
It's taken my family 5 years to get to this stage.
We lost our father last month who was divorced from our mother who is the JW.
We had a traditional funeral for Dad, this is not in agreement with the JW way, and my family respected this and attended it despite what the church says.
I have 1 sister DA'd and a brother and sister who are inactive but staunch for the "truth" and I'm DF'd.
It was a very sad time, but it has brought us kids closer together.
I hope all goes well for you and your family.
Kepa

Grandfather died
by Cygnus inand now there is a debate between my father and his sister whether there should be a memorial service at the kingdom hall.. is there a rule whereby an elder who gives a memorial service at a kingdom hall must use the society's outline?
because my father and my grandmother have made it quite clear that he under no circumstances do they want that.
(i'm very blessed to have jw family who do not shun me even with the long hair (yes it is growing back), earring, and, oh yeah, disfellowshipment).

Announcing the Great Apostate Song Contest.
by Mindchild ininspired by district overbeer valis and his smurf sticker contest, i decided to up the ante and announce a song contest for all you so inclined to play.. what i have in mind is this: take any recorded song you like, even the dreaded jw kingdom songs, and redub them to something much more fun!.
if you have a cool bastardized song (well that is what valis says it is called when you do this) then we can try it out at some of the apostofests that seem to be popping up like crazy all over!.
what do you win?

Okay here goes.
Original song by Bob Marley - No Woman No Cry
This version - No Study You Die
Sorry haven't got a site with this song..No study you die
No study you dieSay say, say I remember when we used to sit
In the kingdom halls for the meetings
Oba- oba-serving the hypocrites
As they would fill our minds up with their bullshit
Good times are gone, just preaching from now on
Do what the say
Tell all them elders, to kiss my hairy ass
I've found the place for me
And.....
No study you die
No study you die
Ere little worldly, don't shed no tears
No study you dieSay say, say I remember when we used to sit
In our private homes to study
And they would tell you, the time is near at hand
So turn to, their church and you'll be alright
And we would preach to all the wicked
And tell them we've the truth
So cut your hair, length-en that skirt
So many books to sell you
You got to stu-dy themEveryone's gotta see the light ( x 8)
No study you die.......

Thanks everyone, it feels like home away from home.
I will write out my passage to freedom, it seems so similar to many already here.
That's good, I'm not the only one to feel this way.
Although, now I have finally been able to get over it, I feel encouraged by everyone else here.
Thank you.

How can God allow this to happen? Because as Derrick says, he shows patience and loving-kindness over his people?
Does that mean God has seperate rules for his people according to how his will is defined by them?
God has outlined his basic principles as these girls would be well aware of that, and yet they violated them in the cause of God’s purpose.
I cant help but compare their situation to the Borg .
Twisting peoples reasoning to fit their time frame, then changing it again and again, and yet continually saying it is according to God’s Purpose.
Just as Abraham and Sarah waited for such a long time before producing their own offspring, why then could the daughters of Lot not do the same. God would have provided for them if it was his purpose surely.
If God showed such patience and long-suffering then, for those who defy his standards so clearly, does he do the same today?
So as your last comments show VioletAnai, where is God’s foresight? Those girls should have developed and dsiplayed the fruits of patience and long-suffering in imitation of their God. -

Thank you Ray,
For over 6 years after being disfellowshipped I continued to view the organisation as the "truth", my beleifs remained theirs until reading your book.
Obviously many have read this publication and felt as I do.
My eyes have been opened, I no longer carry the deep seated fear that was instilled in me.
My anger and bitterness was directed at God as I beleived his spirit operated within the organisation.
Your book helped see that I should not blame God and helped me rekindle this relationship.
Thank you Ray from the bottom of my heart.

I was disfellowshipped almost 7 years ago. In the last 8 months I have finally been able to let go as a result of this book.
As Celia mentions in her posting, the age of your gf is I feel important.
I've noticed that some feel this information is too old.
I grew up in the 70s & 80s was baptised in 1983.
The events written I could relate to.
I read this book 6 months ago and have finally been freed. I was still trapped by their teachings.
I had always regarded it as the "truth", never doubted it depsite being cast out unfairly. My issues lay with God and not the org. This book helped me see beyond what they claim.
Since reading it I have helped other ex-JWs find themselves and move on in life, not living in fear of what we thought was the truth.
I found this book very enlightening, and I'm reading the next one so I can't comment as yet.
