JW and Pro Wresting
by kp138 ini was just flipping through the tv channels and saw that wwe was on, so i thought what the heck i'll check it out.
you see, back when i was a kid i loved wrestling (even though i usually had to sneak it because it was too violent), but i haven't really watched it since i was a kid.
as i watched a couple minutes of this i had a flash of how, even as a young kid, i wondered how did i ever think this was real!?

You see, back when I was a kid I loved wrestling (even though I usually had to sneak it because it was too violent), but I haven't really watched it since I was a kid. As I watched a couple minutes of this I had a flash of how, even as a young kid, I wondered how did I ever think this was real!? There was a time as very young child I thought WWF was real, but slowly as I got a little older I started to question and finally it became clear that it was fake and just a big show.
This kind of reminds me of growing up as a JW. When I was younger I *knew* it was the truth, but then a few seeds of doubt entered my mind and finally I came to my senses and realized it wasn't the truth. So now when I see a Watchtower I get that same feeling of "how in the heck did I ever believe this stuff?!" It seems so crystal clear now. Anybody ever have those types of flashbacks?

The ten best ways to disrupt a District Assembly:
by czarofmischief in1. have an apostate food truck outside with free burritos and shasta cola.. 2. wear a smurf costume and run across the stage.. 3. bikini car wash across the street.. 4. have an old-school breakdancing session on the corner, cardboard and all.
bonus if you do it on a mat made of watchtowers and primary colored book covers.. 5. have a garage sale or flea market in the neighborhood during the afternoon session.. 6. sit in the audience and applaud everything that anybody says - try to get a standing ovation for each sentence of the closing prayer.. 7. put a recording of rap, heavy metal, or other forbidden music on instead of the kingdom melodies.. 8. get fifty of your friends to walk around in the stadium during the session, holding signs that say, "louder please!
" and "take your shirt off!

One more. Walk around an assembly wearing a giant light bulb costume (like you'd get for halloween) while reading a Physics text book. That way "the light gets brighter" (ba-dum-bum-ching)

I love this thread. How about this: Wear a strap-on dildo under your pants so it looks like you have a massive erection.
- Walk around the main aisles and near the stage.
- Walk up to an elder looking person and ask if you can study with them, then change the subject and ask if there's a children's play area around.
- If there's a line at the new credit card terminals, stand very close behind a guy and gentle poke his butt with your "hard on". When he looks back say something like "boy, I'm sure excited about these new credit card contributions."

My father, who was a well standing JW, commited suicide about 4 years ago. The funeral was held at the KH, which was kind of surprising to me.
What's not cool is that it's more preaching basically, and they don't allow anybody else to speak. I wanted to say a few words, but it wasn't even an option.

Sounds like you were have a precursor to an out-of-body experience. I've researched OBE's a lot but never had one. I kind of experienced what you described. I suggest reading a book by William Buhlman

Were you afraid of Armageddon?
by cyberjesus ini was dfd in 1995 however i still believed it was the truth until 2009. and until then i was fearful of armageddon's day.. i remember every time i'd see a dark sky with thunders and lighting i would question if that was it.
the news of any major disaster, hurricanes earthquakes would ignite fear inside me and i would think that could be the beginning of the end.. when i was around 8 i remember going to visit my grandma and she was watching the news.
a major conflict in the middle east had ended and some president said that the world was not in peace.

I definitely was afraid. I've suffered with panic attacks throughtout my life, which I contribute to Armageddon fear.

Are the numbers accurate?
by Joshinaz inthey claim they are 7 million and growing.
is this true?
i haven't been to a meeting in 12 years but i know of at least 100 people i grew up with that have left the congregation.

I was thinking about the numbers the other day too. The reason I thought of this was because when my family started as JW, it included my grandparents, my parents and my two aunts. Now both of my grandparents and dad have passed, my mom and aunt fell away leaving just one aunt that is still in it. Almost anyone I knew growing up has left. It must be growth from other countries or non-english as some have mentioned.

Hello. I've been poking around this site for a couple weeks, and found it interesting reading other people's experiences. Before I start, I just want to mention that I still have high anxiety about the religion and do not want to be thought of as apostate. I just wanted to share my story.
I'm an only child that was raised as a JW. Before I was born my mom got baptized so that my dad would marry her. Besides attending the occasional meeting and Memorial, she was not practicing. My dad on the other hand was as serious of a JW as you could imagine. Still to this day I've never met somebody with more of a pure heart than my dad. He was genuinely a good human being, doing what he thought was best. Growing up, my dad engrained the religion into me and used heavy amount of scare tactics. Example: telling me graphic stories about JW's being persecuted by Nazi's and that the same thing was going to happen to me, and that it was a shame that we'd be in the NS without my mom. This is all very heavy info, after all I was just a boy. In his mind, he was just preparing me because he wanted me to stay strong and make it. I did listen intensely to these stories and believed, which I'm pretty certain lead to my severe anxiety and panic attacks. I remember as a child watching the news and having panic attacks.
My dad always nudged me to get baptized but I always put it off, mostly because I had anxiety about being in front of everyone in the pool. Around the age of 15 I started experimenting with drugs and alcohol with my other witness friends. I remember partying at the age and just hoping Armageddon would not start. I always made a promise to myself that when I was done with my "party phase" that I'd get back on track. Well, that never really happened. I had two stinks in my early twenties of going back to meeting and studying. I'm 32 now and have known for the last few years that I would not go back. I would get my weekly call from my dad telling me to get back into the truth because the end was SO close. This obviously did not help with my anxiety issues.
My folks, like many, did not prepare at all for their financial future. My dad was a painter (construction type) and never expected to get old. As my parents entered their 60's it was quite sad to see. My dad's body was starting to break down from the lifetime of hard labor and they were falling deeper into debt. It was a vicious cycle because they were basically living off loans and my dad could not longer work full time. My dad was also suffering from heart problems, which I contribute greatly to eating fast food all the time, due to it being cheap and quick.
As I mentioned the financial issues were adding up. In 2008 my dad committed suicide. He had a life insurance plan, and figured this was the only way to help my mom. I was in complete shock for months. My dad was such a firm believer and I could never imagine him even allowing doubting thoughts enter his mind. (He was also fearful of the internet, so I don't think he read anything online). He was the last person I could ever imagine killing themselves.
I always knew that my dad felt such great disappointment that I was not a practicing JW. He basically groomed me as a child to either become a pioneer or go to bethel. I don't blame myself for his death, but it did hurt me profoundly when he wrote in his suicide letter that he was a "lousy father."
Now that I'm in my early thirties I feel like I have catching up to do. I started going back to college part time and just try to move forward with my life. Thanks for reading my story.
