The Pain of Coming to a Decision

it's been at least a couple years since i've posted anything on here, and much longer than that since when i was active.

ten years ago i first came here all in turmoil over my disillusionment of my beliefs.

i've been through lots of ups and downs since then.

I am in the "pull the headship" card. Start getting your kids into things, start with boy or girl scouts. Start encouraging your children to have sleepovers with normal (not "worldly") kids. Start having the families of normal kids over for bbq. As a witness we shut out the world. Bring the world into your house!! Show the wife that most people are good and kind. Boy scout meeting? McD's afterwords. Last big band practice on thursday night, ice cream afterwords. Let your kids and your wife see with their own eyes how pleasant and involved and normal these "worldly" people really are... plus you dont even have to argue with her about it!

It is so easy for the "never miss a meeting/service crowd" to be self righteous about missing meetings for sports or school activities. Even if the paradise was real, these kids will NEVER be kids again.

Not sure how it is done in Australia but here in the sconnie nation, prison and or jail guards do not carry guns when mixing in company with liars and thieves. They of course have weapons in the facility but they are locked down.

For instance, when a deputy or policeman books a prisoner into our county jail, one of the first things he does is check his service weapon into a safe, then lets the prisonor out of the vehicle.

Both my kids were issued chromebooks in school. They have had them about two years now. They seem to hold a charge pretty well, pretty rugged and they have not had any system issues.

Not sure how much they cost but they seem pretty reliable.

You can hate on the congregation all you want (and I do) but if the parents are willing to hide it then the kid is fucked.

While I cannot for the life of me understand how a grown man would allow any organization to keep him from protecting a child being subjected to this type of abuse, I came to the sad realization that all the jdub men in my life when i grew up were nothing more than sycophantic pussies.

i remember going out with other jws after the memorial.. small gatherings.. picnics at some local landmark.. the feeling of closeness, camaraderie, friendship with like minded people you could trust.. haven't experienced it since i left.. really miss that..

Disassociation letter

i have a question about where to send my disassociation letter.

do i give a copy to the overseer of the cong i was in and the branch?

I would second (or third) the suggestions to send your letter to everyone or just friends that you truly care about. If I would do my own letter differently that is the only thing I would change but its not huge.

I agree with dubstepped, write a letter, get out, be free, and never have to worry about hiding or crossing the street to avoid witnesses! The main benefit though is not being on the company list as a current member the Jehovah's Witnesses.

let me start with a disclaimer: i am in no way minimizing the horrific crimes done to children by pedophiles.

i'm not downplaying the number of lives lost due to the blood issue, or hearts broken because of shunning.

i do not want to discount the feelings of those who have come to the end of their lives with expectations of paradise postponed.. but to me the biggest atrocity committed by this awful cult is raising children from a small age to believe that soon god will kill billions of people.

Raising kids in this church is one of the worst things you can do to a kid. I, like you was a born in. It is the reason why I have a difficult time with people who choose to fade when they have small children in.

My mother was not a uder dub. I was not hit over the head with the end of the world bs but I still never thought the world would survive past my 20th birthday because I was taken to meetings. When I wanted to play sports I was told that I was selfish for wanting to put football over god. I remember telling a guidance counsler that there was simply no reason for me to go to college. It wasnt until I had my own kids that I started to get serious as a dub and thats when i realized it was all bullshit.

Get your kids out now! Losing a "friend" or "family member", hell, losing many friends or family members is a small price to pay for giving your child a life free from the dictatorial life of being raised as a child of a jehovahs witness.

Hope and Reality

for a long time, i've been moving into a place of utmost hope and faith.

universal reconciliation.

as a converted jw - i began my conversion with the joy that there is a hope for something we all would love - a world where each of us sees our fellow kind as a true brother.. i don't think that's an unhealthy way to live.. but - i'm living with the effects of corruptive thinking from a 'sect' - a divisive sect and judgemental sect that has hurt my sense of self.. it's terribly painful to have completely believed one thing, and then completely believe something else.... well that's how it feels to me.. i've read of some here who were jws for years, then became devout born agains for years and now are confirmed atheists.. wow.. how do you cope with the frivolous nature of your 'beliefs' - beliefs that were 'truths' for you in their own time.. i'm struggling - anyone else?.

I agree with Divergent. You woke up! That is incredible considering how "well oiled" the jw machine is. I went through the entire process of questioning jw beliefs, then christianity & the bible and then god. When you start to realize that no one has access to a "supernatural realm" it starts to erode the "authority" that jw's and religion in general have.

There is nothing wrong with changing long held views when the evidence forces to you to change them. Pretty soon you will just have passing moments of clarity (read: facepalm) about how stupid/arrogant/petty and judgemental you once were. Stay humble and keep learning!
