  Unsolicited advice for PIMO JWs who live in anguish and fear

  before one who belongs to another religion can become a jw, one must officially resign from one’s former church in writing.

  many who left their family religion to become a jw have been disowned by their families.

  of course, jws consider this to be persecution.

  I would add that pimo is a misnomer. If you are staying in to placate a family member that you think will shun you you are literally still mentally in.

  Your personal freedom is worth losing long term relationships that were built on the foundation of sand. It may be hard to hear but if your friends will ditch you because you do not share every single thought with them, they are not real friends.

  Sea breeze is correct although I remember not being able to fathom the idea..... the longer you wait to get out, the more regret you will have, especially if you have kids. Get out today!

  Can you ever see a time when Govt`s of this world will attempt to abolish all religions ?

  we are now in the 21st century of our common era with its insights into the potential of what can be achieved in the near future to benefit mankind for years to come .. the co-operation of governments around the world on so many levels has never been better than it is today and it is at least encouraging to see this .. whether it has to do with the climate , the environment ,food production ,safe water for all ,and the better health for all in the near future, and in the future space exploration.

  however the problem today is still religion !

  in its many extreme forms that divides us in no ways that politics divide us .. politicians learn how to compromise and work with their opponents for the greater good ,whereas religions don`t.. religions divide humans like no politicians ever did well not to the extremes religions will go anyway.. is their going to come a time in history when governments politicians say enough is enough and try attempt to abolish religion ?.

  Abolishing religion is a totalitarian thing to do. Every freedom loving person should defend the right to believe whatever you want to believe, knowing that ideas have to pass muster in the market place of ideas.

  Abolishing religion means abolishing free thought.

  I was under the impression that the top 1% who ostentatiously pay $150,000 for a wedding dress, build 8 foot cakes and get their money from mommy and daddy are to be despised.

  Boy was I wrong.

  I wish the couple well but the sins of the monarchy are about as long or longer then the sins of religion.

  Can you be a social justice warrior and still be enamored with the Royals?

  it’s quite affirming to see the horrific material that they’re serving up at the convention this year.

  aside from blatant homophobia, the scenes at the end of the convention that are discussed on another thread stoop to new levels of fear mongering.

  it seems to occur to nobody inside the organisation that this kind of material could trigger fear, deprsssion, anxiety, stress.

  It will certainly have the intended affect.

  My kids still have to go to the meetings / assemblies with their mother. I enjoy helping them to see around this kind of propaganda.

  Little do the die hards realize that even though michael or jesus is drawing an imaginary bow to fight for them, they are still going to die.

  Visited My Grandfather

  my grandfather is a longtime jw with advanced parkinson's.

  on the advice of a good friend mine who is inactive but not "out" i went to visit him monday and we talked for awhile.

  his health isn't well, but he was happy to see me.

  I am in the plus one category doing what your grandfather asked. Is your family going to rise to the level of physically guarding you from seeing him?

  Fuck them. You have a right to see him just as much as they do. Part of the reason why dubs continue to be able to guilt family members into doing what they want is because we as ex dubs ALLOW THEM TO GUILT US. Stop that shit dead in its tracks.

  Make your family call the police because you are there to play chess with your grandfather. Ball is in their court.

  Should private citizens be allowed to video record law enforcement?

  i saw an article in the news yesterday that laws are going to be passed subjecting the police to being recorded by anyone while performing their duty or enforcing the law and encourages citizens to sue if they interfere.

  some law enforcement agents become angry and confiscate recording devices from people recording them while making an arrest, etc.. it does seem that the work that the police and other government agents do is public and not private or confidential so there should be nothing to hide from the cameras.

  on the other hand, how can one distinguish being shot by a camera or by a weapon until one is hit?.

  Here in the sconnie nation, city of madison, about two years ago a 18 or 19 year old was being less then cooperative and and got taken to the ground pretty hard and punched a couple of times. Deservedly so in my opinion but I was surprised how nonchalant the officers were about the people recording the episode on cameras. Even saying something to the effect of "you can record but please move out of the way"

  The problem with watching videos after the fact is you cannot get the full sense of what is happening in the moment. Its easy to replay and second guess after the fact.

  I am of the opinion that the public should be able to record so Ill give you a plus one
