It's true, they taught that each creation day had 1000 years, but in the present they teach that a creation day is the equivalent of an "era", an indefinite period of time. Only the last day started a few thousands years ago, they say.

ABSOLUTE PROOF THAT DINOSAURS AREN'T MILLIONS OF YEARS OLD!
by Mary inyesterday, i went out for lunch with my parents when my mother made mention of something she had read in the newspaper about some new discovery of species that went extinct millions of years ago.
she asked my father what method is used to determine the age of something, because of course, this flies directly in face of the biblical account of life on this planet being only a few thousand years old.. anyway, my father related a story that some brother he ran into recently at the assembly told him.
this [unnamed] brother related a story told to him by another [unnamed] elder who knew an [unnamed] circuit serpent who was "really chummy with one of the [unnamed] executives at the royal ontario museum".

I played all day long a game that has something to do with my nickname. I was playing it at 10 AM, when in my town the JWs gather for the sunday meeting. They got bored to death for 2 hours, I got excited in front of my computer and I loved it!

KH and DF attendance question
by diamondiiz ini was reading brotherdan's thread about df individuals having to sit at the back or/and leave for song and prayer.
i know this practice varies from hall to hall or is regional but i was wondering what right do they have to do this if kh is a public place?
it's a charitable organization, public place open to all i thought.

Thinking is an offense for almost any JW. My point stands.

I'm talking about the r&f JWs. They don't care about them being a small religion. The GB...now that might be something else. The GB is the elite echelon of a religious-financial corporation. Their purpose is to increase the number of their slaves, so they could increase their income. Now some of the members on this forum might argue, some might wonder and some might doubt, but I say: someone from the GB or from it's near vicinity knows exactly where are the Watchtower finances and who drains them. Someone, or some people, have secret accounts in offshore countries and the WT cash flows freely into these accounts.

Would the Watchtower ever dare to discourage having children again?
by nicolaou inwhat they've said in the past;.
"...mark the words of jesus, which definitely seem to discourage the bearing of children immediately before or during armageddon: "and woe unto them that are with child, and to them that give suck in those days" - matt.
24:19... it would therefore appear that there is no reasonable or scriptural injunction to bring children into the world immediately before armageddon, where we now are.

In the spring of 2010 we had our 1-day convention. The theme was something like "Let's give our celibacy to Jehovah" or something like that. Basically, it was a gross pressure on the unmarried young JWs to serve as pioneers, bethelites, elders, etc. while it underlined the difficulties that come with being married. Armaggeddon was so close, why marry and have children when you could spend a whole lot more time doing field service? I lost a lot of marriage candidates after that convention. A lot of young sisters dedicated their virginity to Jay Hoover for a few years at least. Yes, I said years, not months.
After reading all your comments, I have to agree with those who say the Society does not give a damn about the youngsters. It is the truth. They subtly discourage young people from the idea of marriage and they are openly against having children "when this wicked system of things is just about to end". The GB would like a nation of single drones, with no sexuality and no personality, to serve them, send them a lot of money and do a lot of field service.

Black Friday Stampedes VS. District Convention Morning Gate Openings
by Mr. Falcon inhas anyone had a jw rant to them around christmas time about how "horrible" it is to be a "worldly" person at that time of year?.
certian jws love to use the infamous black friday shopping riots that tend to occur as examples to back up this argument.
now, while those incidents are indeed disgraceful, they are hardly isolated to the "world".. among my "priveliges" was to be an attendant at a few district conventions.

We had this problem even in Romania, but not quite so. The entrance was tough, but not to the point of stampeding others. The biggest problem were the seats. Over and over again, the Society sent requirements to be read to the congregations before the district meetings: "Do not occupy seats for other persons beside those who travel in your car!". Over and over, before each convention. And in the morning, 10 minutes after the entrance into the stadium or hall, all seats were taken. They just threw an "Awake!" or a "Watchtower" magazine on the seat. One person was occupying more than 10 seats for his relatives and friends. I used to complain a lot about this and in a loud voice. I threatened the elders in my congregation with my absence for the next convention, if the situation was to repeat itself. And I always got the elderly advice to be calm and tolerant towards the brothers' and sisters' imperfections. I do not understand how mentally sane (or at least that's what I thought I was) people spent an entire weekend, after driving to exhaustion 5 hours each day, to a convention where they got bored to death in the searing heat until their clothes became one with their skin. The only good moments were when some young sister sat somewhere nearby and I got the priviledge to glimpse: a) at her legs; b) at her breasts; c) at her butt; d) all of the above.

When I was a JW, the general opinion was that the one true faith could not be a large denomination because Jesus said "broad is the road that leads to destruction, but narrow is the path to salvation and few walk on it". Trust me, the JW are content with being a small religion. They don't give a s...t on other religions numbers.

Just go in a mosque wearing a T-shirt with "Allah and Muhammad, go suck a...s!" and see if they let you in. Tell them you will just sit quietly in the back and disturb no one.

Did you have higher ed when you were in? If so how were you treated as a result?
by highdose ini went to both collage and uni when i was a jw, i got marked and shunned as a result.
it seemed like every week there would be some dig made from the platform about " those that chose higher education" , my so called "freinds" were constandly on at me " why don't you pioneer highdose?!!".
i even had the ciruit overseer denounce me from the platform as being "spirtualy weak" never mind that most of the peers i grew up with had got themselves reproved or disfellowed and that i was the only who had been good!.

I already had a university degree when I joined the dubs. There was just 1 other JW in that congregation who has graduated a university. The biggest problem I had was at the Ministry School. My public-speech style was too smart for the average JW, it seems, so I was counciled to lower the pole a little. As a result, all my speeches became boring and mainstream. I hated that. I felt like a horse forced to pull an empty wheelbarrow: so much wasted power. In the JW world, they want you to be stupid.

Has anyone knocked on your door recently?
by dysfunction ini am a housewife, and no one has knocked on my door to spread the "truth",not even on the weekends.
question, has anyone experienced this... or has the preaching work slowed down?
or are the witnesses less active, zealous?.

I knew since 3 years ago that the field service in western countries is closing to a halt. No more studies, no more return visits and if they accept a magazine is'l like a holiday. The brothers and sisters in western countries were overjoyed if someone would just said hello and accepted a magazine. People in such countries have no interest in what the JWs have to say. In less developed countries, however, the field service goes like buttered. They have studies, return visits, they place literature, people show genuine interest. We had in our congo a family which came from Spain to serve in a Romanian-speaking congregation. The wave of imigrants from less developed countries, seeking work in the western world, has drawn the JW's attention towards these newcomers. That is why the native population can breathe freely for now.
