  Yes! DocBob, I do know the Stones. Both her daughters moved to my former congregation (Delmar). The oldest daughter is married with a little girl. Her husband was an usher at my wedding in '97.

  It's a small world indeed.

  I don't know the Mullins or anyone from Franktown. But I had a friend who was "networking" throughout the state. I'm certain that she know someone from that congregation. Her name was Nevelyn. Anyway, it's nice to see people from the same area!

  Disadvantages since leaving the truth?

  since leaving the jws reality can be hard to get used to these are somethings i found hard to adapt to:.

  1) starting to celebrate celebrations like birthdays and christmas(i dont mean that christmas is a disadvantage its just getting used to the whole idea).

  2) tell others im not a jw because all i used to do is try to convert them and now im telling them i was mislead and dont beleive it anymore.. 3) should i swear,lie,etc.

  DO YA MISS "THE SWEET FELLOWSHIP"?

  one of the major reasons that a disfellowshipped or disassociated person has for coming back to "jehovah's organization" is that perhaps they will miss the "sweet fellowship".

  after hearing comments regarding the km article on how to treat disfellowshipped ones, i must wonder why anyone of sound mind would think a disfellowshipped person would miss anything from the organization.

  viewing persons as "dead" while out of the organization would not make one feel anxious to return to jehovah's loving arrangement through the organization.whoever coined the term about missing "the sweet fellowship" was pretty clever.

  What "sweet fellowship"? In my old hall, if you weren't apart of the right clique, you didn't exist. I just miss my one best girlfriend. Everyone else were fake anyway...they were just substitutes for the "real" thing.

  What do you do for work and play?

  im just wondering what kind of work people who post here do.

  i believe amazing is a mechanical engineer (like me), xena is an office manager and you know washes windows.

  and when youre not working, what does everyone do with their free time now that they dont have to knock on doors when the weekend rolls around.

  I work for Graebel Int'l (relocation company) at night.

  When I'm not working, I'm sleep. I'm too tired to do much else, esp. with a baby on the way. *yawn*

  Anyone w/anxiety disorders? Describe it.

  i'm curious to see if anyone here has any major anxiety disorders and how it affects their lives.

  as a semi-confession, i think i may have something of this sort, but i'd like a comparison first.

  being a male, i never go to the doctors unless my leg is falling off, so i don't just want to go to a doctor to medicate a problem that could be overcome in other ways.

  Professor:

  The class I took was at a mental health facility. It was quite informative. I was able to better understand the depression and its side effects. The workbook gave various scenarios of other persons who suffered from different forms of depression. It then provided activities that helped me look at myself more closely. I learned some techniques to help me cope.

  ThatSucks:

  I felt suicidal a few times, but the whole JW view of suicide made me feel too guilty to actually do anything (good for me). The therapist(s) I visited with never followed up with me. So I gave up on that method of treatment. Like you, I found ways to take my mind off of the mental anquish.

  Last summer was the breaking point. I decided that I had to do something drastic or I'd literally go insane. So it made the most sense for me to cut off the primary source of stress - being a Witness. I decided to take a "break" from the org. After I left, through much research, I realized it wasn't the "truth" anyway. The funny thing about the org is that it is selfish. It drains all of your resources, so that you have nothing left to invest into your own well-being. No wonder there are so many JWs who suffer from mental disorders. The "truth" was literally killing us.

  I used to have general anxiety disorder along with severe depression before I left the org.

  My heart would beat rapidly and I would be extremely nervous to the point where I couldn't calm down. I would daydream constantly about my own death (very paranoid). At night, I couldn't sleep. Eventually, my therapist prescribed Paxil for me. It was horrible for me. While it did make me sleep, I was "spaced out" all the time.

  So I quit taking the medication. Instead, I took a class on depression and had a book/workbook called "Mind of Mood" to help control my irrational thinking, etc.

  Ironically, once I left the org, my depression and anxiety vanished. I've never felt better.

  I hope you get a handle on your emotional well being. Good luck to you.
