  On the subject of Jesus using a parable about Hell and Abraham being alive in Heaven.

  Why would he use that illustration if he didn't want us to believe in Hell and think Abraham was alive in Heaven?

  None of his other illustrations were based entirely on fiction? He used real stuff, like Samaritans, Farming, Birds, Slaves, Kings, Weeds.

  But this ONE time he decided to use a false teaching to make a point about doing the right thing?

  Ask a modern witness if it would be acceptable to go on the platform and use a story about Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer to teach people the importance of accepting differences.

  What would happen if a brother gave a public talk using Santa as an illustration? He'd never be allowed to give talks again.

  And yet the witnesses claim that Jesus used hellfire and the immortal soul in a parable. But it was all completely fictional? And Jesus didn't bother saying that it was fictional?

  This is of course ignoring Jesus parable showing Abraham in heaven.

  And the transmogrification or whatever where Moses and Abraham appeared to talk to Jesus in front of some of the apostles.

  Edit: My bad! Abraham was not in the Transfiguration. That was Moses and Elijah.

  Basically if Abraham is not in heaven, Jesus really went out of his way to make us think he is. And yet the watchtower is like: "Nah, everything in the bible is figurative except the flood."

  How long did it take you to prepare for talks or parts in the KM school?

  several years ago, whenever i got a talk slip i would get really nervous but accept it and work on it almost immediately.

  of course that was way back when i still believed it all.. now they gave me a #3 talk out of the blue about a month ago and i had forgotten all about it till the meeting night.

  i really thought about not showing up at all but at the last minute, i decided to go.. so when i got there the meeting had already started and so i just stayed in the back looked at the info, found 2 scriptures and then without any notes i went up and gave the stupid talk!.

  Not giving a crap really does a lot to reduce stress.

  And if you're not nervous it's incredibly easy to just look up a random article related to the subject of your talk and paraphrase it for a few minutes.

  They will ordain you online for free, and mail you a certificate. They even let you choose a title: Rabbi, Father, Reverend, Lord etc.

  And their ordainations will allow you to perform legally binding marriages almost anywhere in the US. There are three states that don't accept them though and may not issue a marriage license. (But if you perform a marriage outside the state it's still binding of course.)

  i realize that such stolen items would have to be in some way portable and this eliminates most large items from the list.

  still, i was surprised!.

  Year, day and time.

  They switch between 365 day years and 360 day years at random. Days are years when it's convenient. Time just means whatever the heck they want.

  Immediately: If the bible says Jesus did something 'immediately' it actually means 'weeks later'.

  And just this past thursday "The Cities of Israel" Was redefined to mean: Every individual person in the entire world.

  the watchtower is entering a culture that is increasingly secular and resistant to change.

  i don't share the pessimism of articles such as these as long as abortion is available.. cold as that sounds, i believe it makes a huge difference to a child if he or she is loved and wanted - a big positive for society.. metatron.

  Finally Awake,

  Do you think maybe the government assistance is contributing to the problem?

  In the past, if two people were living together and raising children. They knew that they NEEDED each other to support the family. But now that government assistance is available, mothers may be more likely to leave their mates and live off government programs instead.

  It's not that people today are more selfish and less apt to stay together. They were always like that. The difference now is that they have the option to split up and leach off the charity of others.

  There's no downside for the individual who refuses to make their marriage work. But there is a downside for the society that agrees to support them when they break up.

  Conspiracy Road Trip: Creationism

  apparently there is this show on bbc called conspiracy road trip.

  today was the first time i heard of it.

  in the creationism episode they go on a road trip with a bunch of creationists and try to get them to see maybe they aren't right.

  Lance Armstrong - what does it mean for devoted fans to hear him admit he was a cheat

  anyone interested in sport will be aware of lance armstrong's final admission to taking banned substances to win the tour de france 7 times.

  he was a fraud.

  his many fans, fans of cycling and people who also suffered cancer that looked up to him and his incredible achievements have given lots of different reactions to his confession.

  I'm not a devoted fan.

  It made me wonder what he was taking and where I could get some for myself.

  No seriously. He's like the new posterchild for PEDs. Took them for years with no noticable detrimental effects and they made him awesome.

  I forsee an increase in dopers.
