My Window cleaner is a JW!

very cheap and does his job well.. the other week though i heard him whistling.... at first i thought my mind was playing tricks but no... he was whistling kingdom melodies!.

Effing window cleaners - it was a window cleaner that converted my parents over 50 years ago. My father had a great job, public school education and good prospects. They threw it all away to become JWs and lead a low income life of misery that destroyed their family and didn't see them in paradise as a payoff after Armageddon.
Jam - your story is a shocker. Hope things have worked out for you.

Training for my first marathon. I've run two half marathons this month and am building up speed and stamina. Seem to be offsetting weight loss by eating too much curry and drinking too much beer. Still, the curry helps reduce any inflammation and wards off colds. The beer provides my essential vitamin B6 requirements. Quite a healthy lifestyle!

I can't really seek professional help. Any self-help suggestions for depression?
by easyreader1970 ini really don't have the time or the finances for a professional psychiatrist.
i know i am depressed and i know why.
the problem, as i have said before in one or two other threads, is that the solution won't really change my depression and may, in fact, make it worse.. so i am resigned to being depressed but would like to know if there are some coping techniques or other suggestions.

Depression is part of the package of growing up in JW, for me anyway. I see depression as anger turned inwards - externalise it via martial arts or competitive running. Works for me :)

Hemel Hempstead but attended the Brighton Congregation in the 60's - early 70's.
A meetup would be good - but I attended one arranged by meetup a couple of years ago - only two other people turned up. One was a woman who bought a marked up bible and wanted to talk about Christ and the other was was a disfellowshipped gay guy who again was still too close to JW. I had nothing in common with either of them.
I'd like to meet up with some of the more cynical people who can have a laugh about it all.

Were you afraid of Armageddon?
by cyberjesus ini was dfd in 1995 however i still believed it was the truth until 2009. and until then i was fearful of armageddon's day.. i remember every time i'd see a dark sky with thunders and lighting i would question if that was it.
the news of any major disaster, hurricanes earthquakes would ignite fear inside me and i would think that could be the beginning of the end.. when i was around 8 i remember going to visit my grandma and she was watching the news.
a major conflict in the middle east had ended and some president said that the world was not in peace.

Yeah. Never thought I'd live to 21 as the 1975 Armageddon would happen first. Never developed good relationships with 'worldly people' because they'd be dead then anyway.

I've just read this and recognise so much of my own experiences in growing up in the cult until I finally broke away a couple of years before I was due to fry in Armageddon of 1975, along with all my worldly friends. Although titled as fiction, the author obviously has personal knowledge of the life. Lot's of things made me laugh out load - but the last chapter bought back some of the anger I felt after reading Crisis of Conscience..
Oh yeah - all the references to demons - my brother (now dead) had chronic asthma probably aggravated by the stresses and tensions of it all. My parents decided that the expensive furniture passed on by a relative was infested with demons and threw it out.
What a crazy way to live.
