  more ramblings from the recently concluded elders' school.. see the op on this thread for background: http://www.jehovahs-witness.net/jw/friends/242491/5/wt-elders-school-the-wts-has-progressed-from-just-plain-stupid-to-dangerously-stupid.

  in part of the video mentioned above showing the "goofus" elder trying to handle the situation with the crying sister:.

  the "goofus" elder went into the kingdom hall library alone with the sister when she left the auditorium.. you could hear literal, audible, gasps from the 100 or so elders watching the video.. a few moments later, as the sister was crying, "goofus" put out his hand and touched the sister's hand.. again, literal, loud, audible gasps from the audience.. they darkened the room while the video was playing so i couldn't see him, but i have to imagine the co was quite pleased that the audience grasped the "mistakes" that elder goofus was making.. .

  I was thinking the same as Emptyinside, did they happen to say at what point the holy spirit kicks in to straighten out enough of their thinking so that a "spirit guided decision" is reached?

  Where Are You From?

  alot of members don't have a flag or country name beside their user name, and well frequently one doesn't know where that particular person is from, tell us your country, state, county or what ever you feel like giving out.

  if you are going to post please at least devulge your country.. me, i'm originally from taranaki, new zealand via auckland.

  for the most of this decade i have been living & working in brisbane, queensland, australia.. .

  Off-topic: hand shaking

  this is totally unrelated to anything jw, but it's the only group i'm in online with such a mix of men and women, so i'm asking.

  what's your experience with hand shaking?.

  me, when i meet someone for the first time, i offer to shake their hand.

  I also agree with the germ thing and shaking hands. Fist "bump" makes much more sense. Worse than shaking hands is passing that germ-infected microphone around. Hudson Valley NY

  Did God invent the sword?

  in genesis 3, when adam and eve are kicked out of the garden, it says there is a flaming sword guarding the way to the tree of life.. this was before adam and eve had any children yet.. but metalworking and forging are not mentioned until tubal-cain -- adam's great great great great great grandson -- comes along.

  not sure if it means he invented the forging of tools or if he was just a blacksmith, though.. but back to the main point.

  if there was this sword guarding the way to the tree of life, does that mean god invented swords?.

  I do believe God invented killing. According to the book Able was making animal scrafices that pleased Jeh. EVIDENTELY if those scrafices pleased god he must be the one who invented it. Hudson Valley NY

  So the GB when working together has Jehovah's spirit and direction, but isn't that what local elder bodies pray for and suppose to have when they meet? So what do JWs' need GB for. Local elder bodies should have all the divine direction they could ever need.

  Sisters and the Double Standard in the Hall

  okay, so this means that a sister has to speak to a householder when on the platform, so she isn't addressing us herself and teaching us something.

  Used to have a sister audit our accounts. She was a bookeeper. Did a great job, on time. That was back when we used spreadsheets. Brothers never questioned it because they were happy not to do it. Then some new Circuit Overseer put a stop to that in a real hurry. I did the accounts before I was a MS and became the account servant after I was appointed MS. When that sister stopped doing the audits the brothers had to take turns doing the audit and it was seldom done as well and about never on time. Pontoon, Hudson Valley NY

  Contributions ,how the Society CONTROLS the funds of a congragation

  i'm not sure if anyone has started a post about contributions recently ,but if there is an accounts servant here please free to correct me or shed some more light .what i'm about to say is 100% accurate and applies to congragations in britain (don't ask me how just ...join the dots).

  the society controls all the funds that are coming in the kingdom hall all of the time .the way this works out is as follows :you put any money in any of the contribution boxes and in the end all money are added to together and deposited to the congragation's bank account .the worldwide donations leave the account as a direct debit to the society every week and the rest stays in the account .now comes the interesting bit :once the account goes over 5000 we are instructed to send the rest to the society as a cheque and is held in their account for as long as the congragation doesn't needed back .this way all but 5000 are held in the society's account .any other experiences ?.

  So if the congregation wants their money back they will get it, but who earns the interest of that big pot of money in those CD's? Sounds like a crafty way for the borg to earn money off the congregations' funds. I was still attending when that letter was first read. Thought it smelled fishy back then and was hoping our body would not do it.

  About what one thing do you find yourself being a real SNOB?

  you know, to fit in....to be a part of our own family or group and not be a total nerd or contrarian.. we hold our tongue.

  we smile and nod.. but, then....there is at least one thing we just can't go along with because it is too important.. why?

  because we are a total snob.

  Disfellowshipped for reading "apostate literature"?
