forgive me if this has been touched on many times before.. i was wondering if anyone has actually written the society requesting their response/justifications to the many discrepencies and flaws in their doctrine and history, such as failed/altered dates and prophesies, pyramidology, beth sarim, lack of transparency, economic and political ties to the world, how they no more than archeologists, biblical contradictions, etc, etc..... if so, what was their response?.
Im certainly not expecting a straight-forward and honest reply from the society. Ive had concerned ones,who feel that the FDS can give me all the answers, suggest this to me. Im thinking the vague, listen to us and everything will be okay, answer will maybe quell some pointless arguments.
However, Id still like to read more opinions and experiences.

I dont like a religion controlling my life, but I also dont like the world telling me what day I should celebrate life, be romantic with my wife, appreciate my mother, appreciate my father, stuff my face-hole with turkey, dress up like Wolverine, or blow all my money on someone I love.
There's plenty of ways to be a mindless sheep. Religion is just one. But that's just my opinion.

Very true. I disturbs me when people tell me I better figure things out soon. Would God prefer I spend my life on a bandwagon motivated by fear or guilt, or would god want someone who earnestly searches for truth, even if it takes their whole life?

thanks everyone for the replies, very spot on. Its been awesome to discover revelations on my own and to develop a GENUINE passion for knowledge on history and religion. I just dont want it to take away too much time from other things in my life like my marriage, music, etc. I guess balance is the key.

looking back i'm glad i didn't marry my ex..
As a young witness, dating was horrible. Looking back its truly disturbing how obsessed the elders were with wether or not me and my girlfriend were touching each other. Always wanting details and publicly humiliating us at times about it, and we werent even baptized. One elder actually advised me to get married even tho I was super young, in college and had no job. He said I could rely on my parents and welfare!!!! I shudder to think about my life if I had followed that advice.
i've been out for 11 years and working on an assignment of what jw teens are into now, stuff that's seen as borderline where they can participate, but only to an extent.. an example pre-internet: we could skateboard, but couldn't be punk rock, so we hung out with the punk rockers at skate ramps and our parents didn't know.. what are the jws saying regarding:.

I just heard a C.O. emphasize that spending too much time doing 'good' things has the same negative impact of doing 'bad' things. They both distract from spiritual matters. Thank goodness for their generalizations that make life choices so simple.
