Elephant says
i dont believe you've ever seen Jesus in a spiritual state (at least i dont think so) how do you know he doesn't look like an angel?
. . .but evidently the WT illustrator has?
interesting stuff in the november wt.
note this dishonest quote:.
during his ministry, jesus.

the past two week's worth of wt studies have made a couple points that appear contradictory in nature.
yesterday was too much, i felt at least.
either there's another faction within the writing department fighting for the equivalent of airtime in the literature, or they're all so indoctrinated that they fail to see the irony in what they publish.. for instance, take paragraph 5 from last week's lesson.. 5. unlike the law codes of many countries, "the perfect law" is neither complex nor burdensome but consists of simple commandements and principles.
Welcome, Elephant!
You say
On the subject of mind control…I could go as far as to give in a little on that argument only because you yourself have admitted that one can submit to mind control willingly. This happens in religions and outside of them.
I think you said much the same about micromanagement earlier. Am I correct in understanding that you see no problem with it unless the micromanaged person objects?
If a person is raised in a high-control environment and is consistently discouraged from self-expression and then marries an controlling, abusive spouse, is that OK? Are children raised in that environment likely to become independant and respectful adults?
If it is a religion that provides the controlling environment, is that "better" that such a home? If this controlled person wants to leave, but fears to because they have always been warned of the perils of a Satan-dominated world, are they really free to do so?
. . and to return to topic, if the publications of the controlling religion exhorted that person to make up their own mind, wouldn't it mess with their head?

rick simons takes the stage and tells why the candace conti lawsuit was the right case at the right time against the watchtower.. this is the first of at least three videos documenting mr. simons' presentation on july 14, 2012. .
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ffywyvy9anm.
last segments of this program should be up within a few hours.. .
Excellent videos; thank you, Juan V.
In the second Q&A (I think) Rick says that the Catholic bishops agreed among themselves not to settle any more pedophile victim cases with gag orders. The WT is fine with continuing this policy.
Anyone who donates the smallest amount to the WT and knows of these issues, or even that these videos exist, should have a deeply troubled conscience.

so we have a jw next door who went to the assembly over the w/e.
yesterday she gave 'gift' to my wife for my kids.. that's right it was the sparlock dvd.
i didn't know about the gift until i saw my kids watching it this morning.. is it safe to let my kids watch it?.
Watch it with them and ask what they think. "Is it fair to throw away somthing that was loaned to you?" "Why would Jah be hurt by a plastic toy?"
Wt propaganda is its own worst enemy
i never, ever thought i would ever be posting on a board such as this but here i am.
i've been reading the boards for several months and despite my initial conscience twinges, i couldn't help but follow a logical thought process on many issues that were causing me grief.
over this past week, due to the things i've read on here, i've had a massive cloud lift from me and i'm starting to feel joy and love in my heart that i've *never* felt before.
Great to see you posting again, Silent and also nice to hear of another successful fade. Sounds as if you are doing well, but make sure you get help for the depression if you need it (I've had a few episodes and speak from experience).
Also hope you and your wife are pursuing education, formal and fun, and getting some "outside" hobbies and friends. If all your ex-cong can do is give you the evil eye, that's a good reason to be somewhere else.

before, i was thinking, this whole thing with the character the writing department has must be a coincidence.
they must use other names?.
nope.
. . . And he's back!
Andre is in the October '12 public Watchtower; this time with a picture! (page 6)

knowing that the candace conti child abuse case was probably coming down the turnpike as was the 5 out of court child abuse settlements the wt society settled in san diego, california - this past april as most of you know the wt society sent a secret letter instructing all elders to essentially keep their " pie-holes " shut ( mouths for those not hip to modern lingo ) and essentially instructed them to not divulge anything to any authorities investigating crimes or other information concerning wt organization operations.. someone posted a thread on this in april, however - with all the news coming out about wt child abuse coverups, the anonymous organization investigating the wt society , i felt it important to reveal some snippets of what the wt society instructed their elders regarding legal issues.
in one section it states, " when someone seeks confidential information : you should never reveal confidential information to anyone unless theocratic procedure requires it or the branch office has instructed you to do so.
Just read the letter again . . . it sounds so right, to keep confidential information, well, confidential.
Yet, I do remember an article where a "good example (name withheld)", who obtained information about a fellow jw from her place of employment in a medical center, felt impelled by her conscience to ask the so-called sinner to confess to the elders, and if this didn't happen, to rat them out.
This behaviour could and should cost her the job. So much for confidentiality! Not important . . unless its important to the WTS.
Mr Flipper has it right, the WT Society does believe that they are superior to the laws of the land - without the least justification.

Hi Mr Flipper,
Is this the letter than SBC quotes here?
From item 14
Handling reports of other crimes: When the elders learn of alleged criminal activity
on the part of one of Jehovah’s Witnesses or someone associated with the congregation as the accused
or the victim, they should immediately call the Legal Department.
Just great. Take care of the victim first? no. Make sure the authorities are informed so that justice can be done? not right now.
Much more important to call the legal department!

Perhaps the husband was disfellowshipped for 'unscripturally' demanding a higher bride-price than the unemployed PO's son could afford? Or maybe he was DFd for 'unscripturally' questioning how all the animals could have fit on the ark?
That was a funny thread Billy!
Contrast this with the latest public wt here, where they are trying to demonstrate the wt and the Bible's great respect toward women

Linda,* a zealous Christian and a devoted mother, watched helplessly as her baptized husband unrepentantly
embarked on an unscriptural path and was disfellowshipped. What should a Christian do if his or her marriage bond
seems hopelessly frayed for such a reason?
"for such a reason", eh? If the husband was disfellowshipped for something like questioning doctrine or smoking, is the marriage
necessarily "frayed"? Well yes - because of the wt judgmental attitudes and the need to "give a good witness".
No other reason.
