These two threads essentially explain why JW teens should not qualify as mature minors whereas other non-jw teens quite often are declared as such.

It essentially boils down to their ability to make a personal decision that is not made under duress or based on undue influence from other sources such as family or clergymen hovering over the hospital bed.

If the Court can determine that a minor (whatever age that may be in that jurisdiction) is not capable or in a position to make an un-influenced decision, especially in medical emergencies, the Court can apprehend said child and force treatment upon them. This was what the courts in this particular case determined, and the Supreme Court of Canada refused to intervene.

Unfortunately the Society has now thrown their poster child, Mia out of their minds and she and her family are left to pick up the pieces. As I have mentioned before the blood is on the hands of David Gnam, Shane Brady and the Branch Committee.

A few suggestions.

1. Should there be any member of the judicial committee that you do not know, demand identification. Ask outright if he is a lawyer and do not accept "I am here as an elder" as an answer. If yes, walk out immediately and say nothing except that if they have legal representation so shall you. It is no longer a private church matter but a legal matter. Discuss this with your attorney.

2. I thought your lawyer had demanded that all correspondence go through him. Yet again they contact you directly. I presume your lawyer has appropriately threatened them with harassment if they do not follow through on that demand? If yes, follow through on that threat!

3. as always follow your conscience regarding your answers to them if any. It has served you wwell up to this point.

well it appears the watchtower is back at their executions.

after jr brown besmirched her moral character by saying she was being disfellowshipped for other sins unrelated to the dateline program, now three men want to meet her at a motel?

why not the kingdom hall?

They do have meeting rooms and banquet facilities at that particular hotel. I recall when I visited a couple of Congregations in tennessee that a number of people had menial jobs at various hotels. I remember one brother being so proud that he attained the postion of night desk clerk or such.

I am presuming that a JW works at this hotel and has arranged use of one of the meeting rooms for the reason mentioned above..to keep the Kingdom Hall out of the media.

If Barbara agrees to this location, which I discourage BTW, I would think the media could be accomodated in an adjoining banquet hall awaiting barbara's comments afterwards...Of course what the media are able to hear through the walls .... smirking.

I am sorry they just aren't leaving her alone and that she ahs to continue to go through this.

The Society is using its typical doublespeak again.

If the media uses former JW's the Society will not participate because theya re just disgruntled ex-Witnesses with a grudge.

If the Media uses active JW's they will not participate because they do not resolve issues between brothers in public (tho what about their disagreement with 'Brother' Lawrence in Calgary hmmm).

The Society simply does not like the media except when they print their own Press Releases verbatim. The sooner the press realises they are viewed as tools of the devil the better!

The Society loves to bully itself into a position where they are always in a win win situation. They have done it with increase vs decrease, court victories versus court losses, even mishandled judicial cases "well perhaps it was too harsh but Jehovah saw fit to allow it for a reason..."

These guys are masters at making putrid crap smell like a dozen roses but crap is still crap no matter how it smells.

Why not get the mother to petition her all loving religious leaders to have them pay for the treatments. Afterall they essentially bankrupted teh family fighting this in Court to allow the girl to seek other treatments.

One would think they would gladly pay to keep their new poster child alive... but then again we are talking about The Governing Body and the Canadian (tightwads) Branch Committee.

I guess we won't see that happening.

for all of us hosers and many americans in the north sctv was a staple for the basis of our sense of humor.

there were so many great skits and mini series that were memorable to me like dr. tounge and the 3d house of beef and maudlins eleven, the happy wanderers,count floyd, ed grimly,six gun justice man i can go on and on.
