Organisms that cannot or will not adapt to a changing environment are destined for extinction.
There have been no exceptions in the history of our planet.
i think so.
and i doubt it'll grow much, if at all, but i think it will still be around.. what do you think?.

the new asleep is available on jw.org in its full color pdf glory.. i only glanced trough...seems pretty blah....except for the opening article and the pictures in particular.. the article addresses parents grieving to the loss of a small child due to an infectious disease.
an unimaginable situation for any parent (myself included)!.
the wt seems to show the natural reaction to the loss of a child and the expected grieving in a way that any normal parent would react.. however, it stood out in a stark contrast to the 1994 awake, where children lost to a stupid misunderstood and missaplied belief were lined up all smiling and their parents commended for the very actions that cut the life of their own children short!!.
the revealer - "Ya I saw that and started a thread before I saw this. What a bunch of goof balls. Do they really want to raise that issue?"
People who live in glass house should not throw stones.
However, people who live in glass houses - more often than not - feel compelled to throw stones; authoritarians inevitably call attention to the flaws of others, especially when those very flaws hit a bit too close to home. They almost can't help it.
Just look at the Right Wing. Glenn Beck rants like a lunatic about the Left Wing conspiring to take over America and imposing some sort of anti-Christian totalitarian state, but if you read some of the more extreme Right-Wing manifestos, they themselves advocate taking over America and imposing a Christian supremacist totalitarian state.
I've come to the conclusion that whenever the loudmouthed jackasses of the world are accusing someone of plotting and scheming something, it's because the loudmouthed jackasses themselves are the ones actually plotting and scheming it.
what im about to post is the exact words from the co during the last talk of the most recent special assembly day.
even though im out i still try to keep up with what is being said just cause i find it interesting, and alot of stuff i find funny, but this stuff is starting to get scary, and i fear for my friends who are still in.
here are the exact words:.
sd-7 - "And then it occurred to me. Oh! In the time it takes him to drive 3 blocks, pick up the pizza and come back, his wife will presumably have rushed down the stairs and ripped my clothes off in a heat of immoral passion and he'll walk in on it! What was I thinking?!"
Either that, or concerned about how it might "appear" to whoever might (on the off chance) be watching.
So, paranoid? Or shallow? Hmm....
is there any religions out there that actually think that any religion is good as long as you worship?.
or do they all think the other religions are under the control of satan/the devil.. funny, i knew that the jw's felt that way but never really thought about the other religions.. is there any humble enough to admit they don't have all the truth and aren't any better than any other religion?.
that's the one i want to join... snoozy.
Snoozy - "Do all religions think theirs is the only true one?"
No. Only authoritarian high-control religions.
I would posit that the religion that has "gotten it right" the most is the one that:
- acknowledges and accepts all of the discoveries and advances, of history, science, etc., no matter what
- operates with complete transparency to all
- accepts full accountability for errors and implements referms whenever neccessary
great friendship that i'm growing with a older woman here in milwaukee.. she's a really nice woman.
i like talking to her, and she tells me that she tries to listen to the 'younger folks.
' she said, she actually enjoys talking.
garyneal - "...heaven forbid that their 'united brotherhood' should in any way resemble those nasty churches of christendom."
Yeah, that reminds me; another thing that helped with my fade was the realization (upon reading about Christianity's historical origins and Christendom's history) that the WTS...
A) ...was not created out of whole cloth, but, rather, had its origins in evangelical fundamentalist Protestantism...
B) ...for all its talk about the wickedness of Christendom, the WTS had yet to shed many significant trappings of Christendom.
That was a very significant moment for me.
i am a former active poster here, former elder, former bethelite and pretty much known by people on the xjw boards since the mid 90's.
gawd that makes me sound old.. i notice that a great deal of uproar is being made by allegations of a hide in the closet alleged bethelite.
to counter the damage caused by this claim, i am happy to address any questions people may have about bethel, protocol, etc.. i was at the canada branch for 11 years, worked in multiple areas including the legal department, service desk and writing dept.
Billy the Ex-Bethelite - "...it would be pointless to create upstate bunkers. The GB would be much more of the mentality that they would have fake ids and hidden assets to escape to South America from anywhere."
All right, fair enough; I see your point. Buggering off to SA would be cheaper and easier to plan, definitely. Except...that suggests that on some level, GB2.0 is cognizant that the entire WTS lacks legitimacy and/or is crumbling.
First, I haven’t heard any rumors about private aircraft or other forms of clandestine emergency transportation to quickly leave the country in.
Secondly, quite a number of insiders and former insiders, on the other hand, have gone out of their way to stress that GB2.0 are full-on True Believers™ in every sense of the term. I could be wrong, but seems to me that True Believers™ with an increasingly apparent bunker mentality would be more likely to, well, build bunkers.
I’ve mentioned this before, but I think it bears repeating; it’s theoretically doable at the new upstate HQ.
They have the billions in assets they could liquidate to finance it, it’s in a semi-rural area where there’s less public scrutiny, and there are literally hundreds of engineering firms and general contractors who would quite happily sign NDAs for any work they consult on (especially if they're well-payed); plus they could get additional engineering done in-house, and they’re able to mix and cast their own concrete on-site if need be.
If I were a heavy hitter on the GB going what they’re going through this last decade with pedophile settlements, bad PR, and embarrassing Old Light™ coming back with a vengeance, I’d want to build a bunker complex.
Remember the whole “you may receive some information from the FDS/GB that seems strange or hard to understand, but we strongly suggest you follow it” that they’ve been working into the WT worldview for the past ten-odd years?
How about a private letter to all the COs (that they can shred afterwords): “Dear brothers: As we have been deep in the Time of the End, the Faithful and Discreet Slave have given the loving direction that, in light of how stressful world conditions and persecution against his faithful servants have become, faithful followers of Jehovah are advised to quickly and quietly pack a few personal effects (no more than one pieve of carry luggage, please), and make your way to the new Watchtower Branch Headquarters in upstate New York. Further loving instructions are forthcoming.”
Who’d go, besides everyone already there?
Single brothers and sisters with limited prospects (reduces the need for family-related facilities, and fits with the Bethel mindset about children), a few full-on active local families, and that’s about it, but when you think about it, it's all they'd feel they'd need to ride out the Big A.
They’d likely view it as a “sifting” work; winnowing out the last of the fence-sitters. Come to think of it, they have mentioned in the occasional publication that "not all Jehovah’s Witnesses may survive The Great Tribulation"; this could easily dovetail with that prediction.
Is it really so hard to believe?

MeanMrMustard - "What are all these "underground tunnels" that people are talking about?"
Some of us also have a theory that GB2.0 may be building an underground bunker complex at the new HQ in upstate NY. There's been some third-hand weirdness reported that would fit that hypothesis.
Metatron makes a fairly compelling case for why the theory might have some merit: http://www.jehovahs-witness.net/jw/friends/204576/1/Is-A-Moderate-Opinion-of-the-Governing-Body-Possible
march 1, 2011 wt kool aid edition.... the article: does the bible condemn gambling.
notice the highlighted boxes.... first the indication that the catholic church does not consider gambling itself a sin... and then challenges that because no scriptural passages are given in proof of their assertion.. the very next column though, the wts admits that the bible does not directly mention gambling.
so, um, how do you expect the catholics to come up with scriptures if there are none?.
zombie dub - "Why do watchtower photos always have someone dressed like the gimp in the left of that last photo? Chinos and a coloured polo shirt - does anyone in real life actually wear clothes like this??? or is it an american thing?"
No, it's a WTS thing.
When they started using photos in the publications instead of drawings, young people who were being held up as "righteous" examples were usually portrayed very vanilla-bland in appearance; maybe to "discourage" looking too attractive, which might draw attention towards the individual, and away from the Truth(TM).
Besides, "worldy" kids wore ripped jeans, slogan T-shirts, and extra piercings, therefore, JW kids should look the opposite. Never mind the fact that when a kid stands out from the crowd that much, he may as well be wearing a big fat bullseye. Then again, from what I've read about Rutherford essentially implementing policies that would deliberately provoke "persecution", this shouldn't be surprising.
They changed it up a bit in the 90s with the advent of higher-production quality multimedia; young JWs were portrayed a bit more classy in dressing habits and certainly more good-looking; I remember being so relieved that older folks would finally stop pressuring me to look like an extra from Freaks and Geeks.
The relative liberalness of the 90s is definately come and gone, though. If they really are battening down the hatches in upstate NY, winnowing for ideological purity will have kicked into high gear by now; "encouraging" what amounts to a bland physical appearance would be just one of many symptoms; remember, "instructions from the GB that may be difficult to understand" (paraphrasing, but you get the gist).
(( hardcopy link of boe ltr pdf : http://www.sendspace.com/file/1gncdo ))... in my best 'theocratic' voice trying to mimic a service meeting conductor (giggles) ..."if you have acrobat you can insert this behind the other boes in the ks10 pdf, or if not consider downloading and keeping it in the same file as your ks10 for future need to know..... i chose to 'highlight' what i thought might be of interest to the forum in the below transcript but of course it is not limited!.

re: letters of introduction.
Well, this finally anwers a question I asked in my introductory post.
I guess that would put me somewhere midway down any local apostate-hunter's hit list.
Someone said recently that because the WTS and GB2.0 are so convinced that they're right, they aren't the least bit concerned about inactives, faders, and XJWs; that these are "nothing" to them.
I could kind of see the point he was trying to make, but I couldn't forget what I'd read about Old Man Jaracz being paranoid about the Vast Apostate Army, and that the Big A might come when the VAA launched some kind of campaign against the WTS.
If the heavy hitters on GB2.0 are cut from the same cloth (and that seems to be the case), things could get ugly in the near future for faders with family still in...
i was sitting down to lunch yesterday when i heard the man at the table behind me say into his phone "yeah, it's going to be hard since they want us to pioneer in april.".
of course, i was all ears at this point.
next thing i could pick up over the din of a crowded restaurant was "he has to go to the meetings for a year before he can come back.
"If you use the word 'pioneer' as a verb…
…you might be a Jehovah's Witness."
Hmm.
“If you think reading the Awake! magazine gives you the equivalent of a college education…
…you might be a Jehovah's Witness.”
“If you feel compelled to think Prince is awesome in spite of yourself…
…you might be a Jehovah's Witness.”
“If you consider ‘happifying’ to be a real word…
…you might be a Jehovah's Witness.”
“If Michael Jackson’s death made you feel confused…
…you might be a Jehovah's Witness.”
“If Smurfs make you nervous…
…you might be a Jehovah's Witness.”
“If you think the End of the World is the coolest thing that could ever happen…
…you might be a Jehovah's Witness.”
“If 9-11 gave you a hard-on…
…you might be a Jehovah's Witness.” *ducks head*
