Christmas Tree Pictures-Post them
by Pierced Angel inwe put our first tree up, a blue spruce with white lights and a hodge podge of ornaments and a little tinsel.
it's beautiful and was a lot of fun, the kids were so picky about choosing where to put their ornaments.
anyone else have a picture of their tree to post?

Very Embarrassing & Funny JW memory!
by Ranchette ini was so clueless when it came to christmas traditions for two reasons.. 1.raised as a witness therefore never experienced it.. 2.grew up in country or rural areas and they didnt practice all the traditions.. ok, so i grow up and eventually find myself living in a large city for the first time in my life.. this makes me sound like a total hick but bear with me and you will see where this is going.. one winter evening i am peacefully watching tv and spending time with my little jw family downstairs and the doorbell rings.. i say its dark who could that be?
then i go upstairs and open the front door.. there were at least 20 people standing on my front lawn!.
i am shocked and confused then it registers they are singing christmas carols!!!.

Hi Path!
A song we both like at the same time, eh?
I'm finding my music taste getting more diverse as time goes on. But I'll always love Tori, Kate, Natalie, and Stevie!

hubby's phone call to grand ma
by Tammie ina couple of weeks ago, we get a phone call from my husband's aunt.
she tells him that his jw grandma (g-ma) wanted him to call her, and she promised him that she would not shun him.
this is how the phone call went.. grandma (g-ma)- "hello, who is this?

Tammie,
That is so sad. I feel your frustration. I have a similiar fate facing me at a critical juncture in my relationship with some family members. The thought of "losing" them on account of their own mindset is something I have a hard time contemplating. But I am preparing myself for when it does. Then I remember, I can only control ME. Still, the rules of the game completely suck. Thankfully we are not alone.

Thank you for letting us know you are okay Kevin. It is good that you have an appointment with your doctor Monday. Sometimes we need that extra help, ya know? I certainly know the relief of medication during very difficult times. Please stay in touch with us. There are many here who care about you.

Negative Reinforcement of World View
by Ranchette inhello everyone,.
i have had alot of surprises this past year since leaving the organization.it was scary at first.. one thing in particular i have realized recently is how much i subconsciencely reinforced the wts negative view of the world when i was a witness.. for example,i used to watch more negative tv programs which convinced me that the jws were right.shows such as 911,cops,true crime stories, new detectives, unsolved mysterys,cnn.....on and on.. i still like these shows and see nothing wrong with them.i can just see that i never watched anything positive when i was a jw.. or when i heard some tragedy i dwelt on it but ignored positive things.. just before i quit going to meetings i started looking at the world with new eyes.. it was very strange and confusing at first to see things more clearly.. we were taught that the word is wicked and there are just a few good people.. i have found the complete opposite to be true.. the good in this world far out ways the bad.. does anyone understand what i am saying?.

Ranchette,
I understand what you are saying. One thing in particular I have realized recently is how much I subconsciencely reinforced the WTs negative view of the world when I was a witness
Me too.And another thing I've realized since being away is that we can find reinforcement for just about any path we walk.
Interesting.

Hi Frenchy!
How are you!
I recently got addicted to this song and am intrigued by the unique music style of this band. They fuse alternative and hip hop (in this song anyway). I don't know what their other music is like, but I'm really interested in picking up the disc. The lyrics (as always) have personal meaning to me in this part of my life. The chorus is a stark reminder of all I've invested as a JW and where I stand now. It just rings with so much truth, as I see it:
I tried so hard
Nice to see you, French Knight! :)
And got so far
But in the end
It doesn't even matter
I had to fall to
and lose it all
But in the end
It doesn't even matterKristen

Quester,
I really enjoyed the book. My sister introduced me it a few months ago and once I started reading it I couldn't put it down. I never would have even known about it if it wasn't for her casual mentioning of it one day when we were talking about "stuff". I love big sisters!Mulan,
I'm glad to know you've read it! Isn't it funny that it is probably the type of book we wouldn't dare touch while "in?" Freedom to explore is really nice. Most of the insights made a lot of sense to me, and the fourth one really stuck in my mind about interpersonal conflict:
Too often humans cut themselves off from the greater source of this energy and so feel weak and insecure. To gain energy we tend to manipulate or force others to give us attention and thus energy. When we successfully dominate others in this way, we feel more powerful, but they are left weakened and often fight back. Competition for scarce, human energy is the cause of all conflict between people.
I found the explanation of finding the soulmate and codependency interesting too.Just another way to view "things." I want to read the follow-up books when I get around to finding them.
