I needed a prescription renewed and found out my old doc retired...met my new doc and took this opportunity to update my medical record...removed the no blood transfusion clause from my file. I told the doctor that inconsistencies within my church's doctrines made it impossible for me to put my life at risk for no valid reason. After throwing out my medical directive card, amending my medical record is another step toward totally breaking free from the cult. Still, at first I hesitated briefly and was concerned because there is a JW nurse working at this clinic...but now I feel at peace with my decision.

What I think about the "We just love this idea" of David Splane
by Gorbatchov inthe jw.org video about the annual meeting contains david splane saying "we just love this idea", when talking about the adjusted fds doctrine.
"we just love this idea"????
when it becomes one of the fundament teachings of the organisational part of a religion, the rank-and-file witnesses are expected to be convinced about these kind of doctrines.

If you have had the CO or DO over for a meal...
by A question inhow long were they able to stay?
what conversation or other things did you do together?.
-
NVR2L8
When I was a kid the CO and DO were often at our house because my dad repaired their cars...at that time the WTS did not provide a car or even pay for the repairs of the servants's cars...in most cases they drove old junkers and my dad ended up working for free and often paying for the parts out of his pocket. At that time my dad had to work two Saturdays a month to make ends meet and some of that money was used to fix the CO's car! In the meantime they hung around and ate with us for free...Of course during their congregation visits we would have them over again. A few years back when I was reaching out to be reappointed as a MS I offered to have the DO stay at our house. I knew him and his wife from my home town and while I was at work he used my home office to do his official business. His wife was a riot and my wife had a great time watching animated movies in our home theatre. During meals we spoke about the people we knew and some of the travel we did. I can't recall any time where we spoke about the WT teachings or even discuss Bible topics...

Disasters?
by CrimsonAshes inuhh my aunt just called me to say i better move up there because my grandmother (who is the witness not my aunt) told her that at meeting yesterday they handed out packets asking them to fill out next of kin for in case they die and that they should stock up on food, go to rural areas, etc and b ready for 3 days because the disaster in the east coast was only the beginning and they are expecting (warning) not just being precautious that things are about to get worse and there will be more disasters throughout the country?.
anyone have any more information about this?
my grandmother won't tell me specifics like the ton of voice, if it was a warning or just precaution, did they say this was the end, or what....

This "in-case-of-disaster" arrangement is just another way to make the sheep believe the WTS really cares for their well being, but the hidden agenda is to reaffirms the elders authority over the sheep and that they should submit to their instruction if they want to benefit from God's protection....

Two weeks ago I received an e-mail from an elder with an official document from the congregation that list all that is needed in case of a disaster and provides instructions on how to stay in contact with the congregation. It says that if we are evacuated or have to go to a shelter we should contact this elder to let him know where we are. This way they know if we are OK or if we need help...I guess elders received instructions from the society to put their files up to date. The goal of this arrangement is to show that the society really cares for the brothers...and that the elders are there to help...
The funny thing is that I haven't been to a meeting for over 2 years and eventhough my wife is still active, I want nothing to do with them. I doubt very much that this elder could take better care of my family than me. Past experience showed me that these elders have no more expertise than me in rescue missions in case of a disaster. Civil autorities are the way to go...

When ignorance leads to tragedy
by designs inon the news this morning was the almost unbelievable news that a pakistani husband and wife killed their daughter for 'looking at a boy'.
her manner of being killed is even more shocking as the parents poured acid on this girl.. there were 943 'honor killings' reported in pakistan this year with only 20 of the women being given any medical care before they died.. looking at the opposite sex.
one of the most natural responses we have as humans is construed as 'sin' and with it all of the religious and social prejudices that can and do lead to tragedy.. some day these cultures, bound by religious myths and superstitions, will change with education and understanding but it seems a long way off, to distant to have saved this young girl.. as the father of a daughter who i would protect at all costs this just leaves me shaken and i wonder how to reach those young people so they don't grow up to be like their parents..

Out of love for their children, JWs refuse life-saving medical treatments because they believe Jehovah will right the wrongs in the new system...In most cases the child doesn't understand why even when he can perfectly parrot what his parents inculcated in him...

Do most people become Jehovah's Witnesses out of fear they might be destroyed at Armageddon ?
by Finkelstein ina practical question concerning human psychology .
it very well be that it was the jws who were.
responsible for first approaching this posing question to people to incite their interest and concern.. i can confidently say it was for my 20 something year old mother back in the early 50's.. unfortunately people who did so, weren't completely discerning the probable commercial .

My parents became JWs in the late 50's and during these years there was a lot of political unrest. There was also the cold war between the US and USSR. I remember listening the the news on our old black and white TV being scared that the end was near. I am sure this was one of the motivators for my parents to join. Also, my mom had just lost her dad and because he hated the Catholic church he didn't want a religious funeral service. Because my mom and her older sister had started studying with the JW, their whole family blamed them for "corrupting" their father's mind. Of course, at the viewing the funeral parlour was full of JWs - love bombing played a major role in my mom's conversion and she didn't have to make peace with her whole family now that she had all these new brothers and sisters to support her. Then a few years later, her older sister and her husband and children suddenly left the "truth" with no explanation...mom never questionned why and we shunned them completely. My mom never had a relationship with her very large family and we grew up knowing just a few amongst dozens of cousins.
Things haven't changed much today...some become witnesses because they think our world is threatened and something is about to happen and others find comfort within the congregation which fills a void in their life....

Instead of guiding the brothers in their search or holding back the rain on the day of the memorial service wouldn't it had made more sense for the almighty Jehovah to spare this young woman from this awful end. I guess her death serves as a witness for such a loving god...
