In the early 60's I almost lost my dad because he refused transfusions following a car accident and for decades I believed his survival was the proof Jehovah knows what's good for us better than any human. I was resolved to never make a compromise on the blood issue regardless of the possibility that I could lose my life in obedience to God. That's what the WTS expected of all JWs and there was no wiggle room for compromise. My father's fight with the doctors to avoid a transfusion was deemed heroic and that would also be even more so the case if he had died. In more recent cases parents took their gravely child out of the hospital and went into hiding often under the direction of a WTS lawyer to prevent the doctors to force a transfusion. Some of the cases went to court and delayed treatment until it was too late for the patient. Their argument was that God's law supersedes the law of the land. The letter allowing doctors to treat a child using treatment not approved by God (aka the WTS) is a huge compromise that most JWs would not accept without guidance from a WTS lawyer or the HLC. Even the new light on acceptable fractions hasn't changed the resolved of many to totally abstain from blood. I would be curious to see their reaction in finding out the HLC let's parents sign a letter allowing doctors to use blood as part of their treatment. Although I believe such a letter should not be necessary to allow doctors to treat JW children, that letter is written proof the blood doctrine is hogwash and no longer has a moral of scriptural leg to stand on.

this document is very helpful in medical terms yet very explosive in theological terms for jehovahs witnesses whove been taught to resist blood transfusion as rape.

unstopable...your conversation with that elder will only confirm you are a danger for other congregation members because you openly share an opinion contrary to the WTS' and they will do all they can to silence you. Their best tool is to vilify you in the eyes of the sheeps and declare you unfit for their fellowship...Your next encounter with elders will not be to debate who is right or wrong...it will be to find out if you're going to "repent" and get on with the program or be kicked out of the club. Chances are the nice elder that listened to you was more interested in finding out how you feel about the WTS than finding out about the truth...

our four day assemblies in the 1970's through the 1980's were pure torture.. they were held at a horse race track in cicero,il in the smoking hot and humid month of july.
they charged around $2 for parking.

I remember a convention at the Olympic Stadium in Montreal. This stadium was originally designed to have a retracting roof so it doesn't have A/C. The roof was completed years after the Olympic games but it no longer could retract...so mid-july this stadium is like a giant sauna. Anyways, at each side of the stadium there were digital clocks showing the time and temperature...early afternoon the reading is at 37C or 99F and everyone is fanning themself with whatever they can get their hands on...all I could see was that temperature display. The brothers found a solution to ease our pain...they turned off the temperature display. I also remember having a 7 day convention at Yankee Stadium...the French sessions were outsilde the stadium under huge tents next to the open air cafeteria and the rails. Huge sewer rats travelled under the seats on their way to the food processing area. A whole week of endoctrination sitting on folding chairs was surely something I will never submit myself to ever again.

by nowwhat? in"if it was'nt for the preaching work there would be millions more witnesses" - he was saying jehovah wants quality not quantity.. si i'm thinking, what's the difference as long as he has a people that live by bible standards and are moral.
maybe sharing their hope and faith with friends and relatives on a casual basis?

Requalifying as an Elder
by alfredjones100 ini'd like to throw something out to the exelders.. over the years since i stepped down as an elder, my dislike for the society and its ways has clearly grown.. but my love for the bible and my family and friends in the congregation has not got less.. i feel sorry that they are not mature enough to grasp the concept that you dont need the society to make god happy.. so i have been thinking ( and its just a crazy thought at the moment ) to requalify as an elder and to begin to really teach the truth.. to really challenge their thinking and take my talks to the limit without getting busted as a heretic.. whats youre thought?.

Hey Alfred...if you were ever an elder it should be clear to you that there is no way in hell you would be able to teach something different than what the WTS instructs you to...From word to word manuscripts at the conventions to public talk outlines...everything is controled and at any sign of non conformity other elders will be quick to call you out. As elders you are taught to trade off your personal opinion for what is written in the WT magazine.

New Baptism Requirement?
by The Searcher ini would appreciate answers on this from elders or former elders .. speaking to a young unbaptized witness, he said that he'd like to get baptized asap, but he would have to achieve a return visit or two on his report before that could happen.. when i asked him what made him think that, he said that that was what the elders had told his sister to do, before she could get baptized.
is this standard practice by elders?.
haven't they read acts 2:38 to find out what qualifies a person for baptism?

I agree with DOC, the elders may feel that the publisher has still not shown the commitment level they expect. It may also be a way to tell him he is not ready yet without breaking his enthusiasm.
