All my WT publications went to the dumpster when I moved to a new house. My still JW wife wanted to keep the books but I told her the older books contained the information that drove me away from the JW...she only kept current books and the CDs.

Did anyone in the congregation discourage you from going to college?
by Trapped in JW land ini remember being out on service with an elder when i was 17. he asked me what i plan on doing after high school.
i told him i was thinking of going to college to be a teacher.
he then asked me, "do you think this system is going to be around that long"?

To add to my previous post, I had to hide that I was participating in extracurricular sports. I had good athletic skills that I wasn't encouraged to develop. When I reached adulthood no one could prevent me from playing sports...still elders threatened me with removing my service privileges if I continued to play sports...they never acted on their threats but I never became an elder...they didn't have 100% control on me.

I was in high school in the late 60s and I quit before completing my grade 10...Armaggedon was near and my parents needed help to make ends meet. I went to work for the minimum wage and gave them most of what I made. In a few short years we would all be in the new system and all would be fine. Later I met the girl who would become my wife. I was told that it was not the time to get married. This time I didn't listen but several JW relatives didn't attend our wedding. In 1976 we had our first child...again against the advice of the WT...Today I am still in love with the girl I met and married over 40 years ago and I have two great adult children and 2 grandchildren that I love profusely. I can't imagine how my life would be if I had obeyed all the admonitions of the WT. My poor academics forced me to work really hard to succeed financially and things could have easily turn the other way...but all that matters is that I am surrounded by a loving family and a loving wife who sadly is still prisoner of this cult.

How did you find the truth about the truth (TTATT)
by Maat13 ini am sure there has been a post about this subject, however being a recent addition to the network i don't know how to do a search.
and i'm sure new folks have joined since then.
i am really curious of how others came to know ttatt.. for me is was a real bad experience with one elder after another.

When I did research on earthquakes to prove the claim of an increase as stated in the outline of the public talk I was preparing. Then I saw videos from ex-gilead missionary Lance Goller. I saw what was behind the curtain.

Photography and HDR
by ILoveTTATT inas i have mentioned before, i love photography, and specially a technique called hdr.
hdr stands for high dynamic range, and it means the ratio of the "lightness" of the lightest spot in the picture to the darkest.. .

We have a photo gourou at work who always talks about the "holy trinity" of photography...shutter speed, aperture and ISO...Manually setting up to take a photo remains an art! Thanks for sharing your beautiful pictures.

The inevitable memorial invitation
by Really?! ini knew it was coming.
i'd managed to swerve it once already when i saw the paper invite laid out all special in my mothers kitchen when i arrived at her house..i avoided the kitchen for the rest of the visit.. had the family over this weekend, we were alone whilst preparing food and i knew from the second that the tone in her voice changed what was coming.
the usual words along the line of "i invite you every year, i've got the paper invite to give you as well (like that would make a difference?!

I don't get a direct invitation from my still active wife...she just left an invitation sheet on her dresser for me to see...she absolutely avoid discussing any JW matters because she doesn't want to hear my point of view.

In my old congregation there was a MS who knew his priviledges would be removed...so he actually resigned from the platform while doing a ministry school part. You should have seen the look of stupor in the face of the elder conducting the school...

The amount was determined by the number of publisher and sent once a year. The payment was added to one of the monthly remitance form. The program is called Kingdom Hall Assistance Arrangement or KHAA...
