The Irony of JW's on Halloween
by Simon inisn't it ironic - the one day of the year you can pretty much guarantee that most people are not only home but anticipating people people calling at their door ... and jehovah's witnesses don't go out that day.. heck, if the householder isn't receptive they even have the get-out option of claiming it was a joke and they dressed up as jehovah's witnesses for halloween!
:d. of course we know the aim of the ministry for most is to avoid talking to people.
that's why they do it during the day midweek or on sat morning or sun afternoon when people are most likely out..

Disfellowshipped at a funeral
by Yogapants inrecently at a funeral for an active jw, death was sudden and tragic.
was surprised that that one of the disfellowshipped children of the deceased was comforted by the jw's at the funeral.
i would say the majority hugged and said a few short words to the disfellowshipped child on the recieving line to comfort the family.

When my dad died my disassociated daughter attended the funeral infomercial at the hall and several jw spoke with her while others totally ignored her. She wasn't invited to the gathering at my brother's house afterwards. Either way she wouldn't have attended knowing that their love bombing is only to get her to return to the cult.

Remember when you could wear casual clothes to the congregation book study?
by RULES & REGULATIONS ini would get home from work,eat dinner,shower and put on jeans,a shirt and gym shoes to the book study.
then,one day a letter was read where men would need to wear a suit and tie and the woman would have to wear dresses.
it was stated in a letter that the change was due to, '' giving a better witness to anyone who would watch us walking into our local congregation or a neighbor's house.''.

Late 50's until the book study was merged with the midweek meeting, I never wore casual clothes. In fact the only piece of clothing I was exempted of was the suit jacket because the homes didn't have air conditioning. Even as a child, we had the book study in our home and we had to dress as if we were at the kingdom hall. -

What those terrible worldly people are doing
by JeffT inyesterday there was a horrific crash on a bridge here in seattle.
a dukw (wwii amphibious truck) tourist cruise lost control and hit a charter bus full of exchange students head on.
four dead and about a dozen seriously wounded, many more in less critical condition.yesterday, canlis restaurant, located near the scene and one of the most exclusive eateries in seattle, closed for the first time in its 65 year history and sent out its staff with food for the first responders.

My moment of clarity was at the 2010 DC when I watched all the old timers, sitting in their reserved section, bob their heads in approval and applaud profusely while being told of the new understanding regarding the generation...I realized that all of them would be dead in 15 years and that I had no desire to fill a seat in that section.
