Like StephaneL I studied with boys who's fathers weren't a JW and it was something encouraged and viewed by the elders as a sign that I was reaching out to become an elder. In my wife's family a relative studied with his nefiew and abused him in the boy's house until one day when the boy's mother walked in and caught him in the act. Of course all was swept under the rug and nothing was done to help the boy who has since been struggling emotionally. In my area an elder abused young boys when they accompanied him to KHall builds. I personally recall hundreds of occasions when I spent days in service alone with an adult that wasn't a parent...The false feeling of security provides a perfect environment for abusers.

Resolutions at Kingdom Hall
by sieborg inanyhow i got to thinking today about my days in the borg and the resolutions that would intermittently be made in the announcements for co visit expenses, sending a donation to society www fund etc.
my point is that while i was in (almost thirty two years) i never once saw anyone put up their hand to vote against a resolution that the body of elders proposed.
on a couple of occasions i heard a few hushed murmurs but i never saw one person vote against.

The same goes when elders have to make decisions for congregational matters...if one or two disagree they usually vote with the majority so the body can claim the vote was unanimous. Being a dissident is never well seen in the congregation or in the body of elders.

My 14-year-old niece is being disfellowshipped
by keyser soze ini was contacted by my ex sister-in-law yesterday.
she asked me if i wanted to spend some time with my niece, while she went to her sister's baby shower.
it turns out my niece can't go because she's about to be disfellowshipped at the ripe old age of 14. .

not all JW's are asleep
by Damascus ini am an 'active' jw but i do not agree with most of the doctrines inc blood, baptism, the memorial etc etc.i took the emblems at the memorial because i think we all should recognise and accept jesus' command to remember him.
not for one minute do i think this is only for the so called anointed.
i know it is full of man made error and that my fellow brothers and sisters are in a state of mindless, spiritual unawareness.

I grew up next to this Italian cafe and ran errands for the owner and some of the patrons who in return were very generous and protective of me. I heard rumours that they all may be involved in organized crime...you know how people are with their stereotypes. They are respected in the neighbourhood...regardless I don't consider myself one of them. I focus only on the good they do...

I am with you Dark. I remember being asked to prepare presentations for the service meeting and I always had difficulty to find something realistic because in our territory we either had not interested householders or not at home. So most demonstrations were totally fictional. Professionally I can easily replicate dozens of sales situations and how to overcome objections because these are reality in my daily routine. -

These illustrations are conceived so the JWs can visualize their hope but they're meaningless and strange for those outside the cult. Without an explanation a normal person wouldn't be able to figure it out. -

If they are involved the reply from the GB to the rank and file would be that they are being attacked by the authorities controlled by Satan or as Gardians Of Doctrine they're not aware of the financial dealings of the Watch Tower. They don't have to say much to convince the mind controlled JW of their innocence. Like all others involved they would surely use bogus societies and trusts make it difficult to track it back to the WTS. -

GOODBYE my oldest and dearest (JW) FRIEND
by Terry inin my book, i wept by the rivers of babylon, i described the process of having a friend, johnny santa cruz, use our friendship as a platform for converting me to a jehovah's witness.. that friendship cost me decades of my life in bondage to a cult.. the friendship was real and johnny and i bonded for life.
but, the religion eventually turned him into a stone silence toward me--his oldest friend.
now he is dead and the imaginary reunion and meeting of the minds is no longer a possibility.. this makes his passing a double tragedy.. his memories were my memories.

I read this sad story on your original post but I had no time to express my deepest sympathies to you. The saddest part though is that it seems the friendship was only one way - you towards him -at least for the last several years. For him the cult was more powerful than his friendship towards you. When you leave the cult you often get to experience for the first time what real, non-conditional friendship is. But while in the cult, this is impossible. After 50+ years I started reconnecting with family members and old friends who have greeted me with open arms, without resentment. I know you would have been there for him because that's what real friends do.

That's where my parents were baptized and they attended the whole assembly and couldn't speak or understand a single word of English. They drove 350 miles following another car and both cars broke down. My dad was a mechanic and he had to fix the cars on the side of the road. The 8 adults shared 2 motel rooms, some sleeping on the mattress on the floor and on the bed springs. We had a picture of the Yankee Stadium on our living room wall with the theme The Divine Will if I remember correctly, the dates and the attendance of 253,922 delegates.
