Why Elders leave the Organization and why their Wives stay.

i have talked to quite a few brothers who have served as elders and servants and left the organization.

in most cases their wives have remained in despite the husbands best efforts to persuade his wife that the organization is wrong.

even though the wife can see problems within they continue to press on in service to the society.

I agree with Blondie...I had a social life outside the org...I am very social and I make friends easily. Leaving the KHall "friends" did not scare me at all. When some started noticing that I was no longer at the meetings, they said I was no longer welcomed to our weekly hockey game...so within a day or two I found a spot on 2 other teams where I am accepted regardless of my religious beliefs...as long as I pay for my ice time. I go out with them for beers after the game and I realized that they like me for who I am and not because they have to because I go to the same KHall....

My wife's social life is all about the congregation "friends"...she couldn't defend her faith if her life depended on it after 45 years of "devine education"...but she is not willing to discuss any of the evidence that the "truth" is nothing but.

i've gone in to see what the fuss was all about, and all i saw were donuts and pastries i can find in every grocery store or gas station back home.

Wha happened!!! Attacking Canadian beer of all things! American beer tastes like Schlitz...(pronounced without the "L"). I remember buying a 24 pack of Milwaukee's Best in Virginia Beach and I ended it giving it to my campsite neighbours after I found "imported" Molson Canadian.

As far as Tim Horton, he appeared in 6 NHL All Star games and played from 1952 to 1974...he was no mediocre player, this coming from a Montreal Canadian fan! Most of his career was spent with the Toronto Maple Leafs and at one point he played in 486 consecutive games. At the end of his career he played for Buffalo and on his way home after playing in Toronto (90 mins. away) he was killed after losing control of his De Tomaso Pantera and hitting a culvert...he wasn't wearing his seat belt.

As far as Timmies' coffee, I can't tell if it's good or bad because I don't drink coffee except for the occasional espresso...but I avoid going there especially on Saturday morning because it is the coffee break place of choice for JWs in my region...In Canada Tim Horton's killed Dunkin Donuts and Coffee Time....

A jw I Know Died

poor old guy had a sudden heart attack and just died.

he was 70 and was never sick even once in the time that i knew him the past 6 or 7 years.

he was very active, ran a business, restored old cars, and was of course active in the jw ministry.

A few weeks ago a brother in his late fifties passed away. I used to enjoy talking to him and his wife - she is a nurse and provided some guidance in selecting a surgeon a few years back when I had a minor surgery...I felt really bad not going to the funeral talk to give her my sympathies...but I couldn't submit myself to a 45 min infocommercial of how great is the JW views are and how unimportant individuals are even on the day of their funeral...

Have you ever played the lottery? Do you still do it?

i have never purchased lottery tickets in my life, but i have picked lottery numbers with someone in the past only one time.

he agreed to split the winnings if we win, but we didn't.

i am thinking about buying some lottery tickets, hopefully i will get very lucky.

A few years back while I was a MS I was given a lotto ticket with the purchase of a meal deal at McDonald. I hid the ticket with my gas receipts in the glove box in my car. A few months later as I was doing my car expenses I found the ticket and went on the lotto web site to see if I had won anything...To my surprise I had all the numbers right and the prize was $50,000! Reading the back of the ticket I found out that I would have to go to the lotto prize office to claim a prize of $50k or more and that there would be press interviews and photos...At that point I researched the WT publications to find conflicting information. The older WT article said that it was a conscience matter to accept a prize if no money was spent acquiring the ticket (not gambling if no money was involved). The other WT article stated that regardles of purchasing or not the ticket, the prize money was acquired in an activity displeasing to God and accepting it would be the same as accepting diamonds I knew were stolen...I started thinking to myself that we can accept blood fractions which are acquired through an action (blood donation) that is forbidden by God...so why should act any differently with my winning ticket? So I decided to claim the prize and after reading the French version of the lotto rules I found that they were different allowing to claim prizes up to $50k by mail with a copy of an official document bearing my picture...A few weeks later the cheque arrived by courrier, no questions asked. The funny thing is that my zealous JW wife didn't object at all and we kept the whole thing secret. After I stopped going to the meetings I told our children about our winning...

I genuinely love them

i love these people so much!

we had kh cleaning last weekend for the memorial and it felt just like old time and brought back soo many memories...i share my struggles, my joys ...everything with my bros and sis... they are my friends...i really truly do love them...how can i leave?

that feeling just made me feel like abandoning all this reasarch and go on living blindly .

Love is only linked with congregation activities...love in service, at the meetings, at conventions...occasionally in some private gatherings. My brother is an elder and my elderly pioneer mother is in his congregation. She lives one block away from my brother but she complains that he never visits her. She only sees him and his family at the KHall...They are too busy to visit or even call. But if you come to the KHall, they are warm and loving...The moment they will sense something is wrong with you, love will be far gone and they will not visit you to enquire or even call. I haven't been to the KHall for nearly 2 years and the only few that come to visit come to see my active wife...they barely say hello to me and act as if I don't exist. They don't even know why I left yet!

Is the Watchtower shy about repeating their new "generation" teaching?

as i recall in the 1980s talks and watchtower literature, magazines and books were always talking about the "generation" teaching and how it proved armageddon was going to come any day now.. but am i correct in thinking they have only actually mentioned the new "overlapping generations" teaching once or twice in the literature?

why are they so shy about talking about their great new interpretation?

it's almost enough to make you suspect they are a embarrassed about it.. mention it once or twice, don't dwell on it, hope everyone just accepts it, and don't bring it up again.

I couldn't tell because I haven't been back to a meeting since the famous generation talk at the DA on June 13, 2010. WT review covered was the article discussing the new light on the generation...double whammy and I quited cold turkey.

Bethelite sent to India for heart surgery.

an uncle of mine is a lifer at the brooklyn bethel and he was recently sent to india for open heart surgery.

it's so much cheaper compared to getting the procedure done in the us it's ridiculous.

does anybody know if it's the society that pays for all this or if it's up to each bethelite's own health insurance?

In Canada we have a universal health program that covers every Canadian citizens. so when Canadian missionaries are ill, they are flown back home so they can get free medical treatments. I personally know a missionary from Burkina Faso who had heart surgery and another from Benin who had cancer treatment here and then went back to their assignments. Some may come home twice a year for follow up treatment. While they are here they also take care of their medical needs including dental treatment and eye care.

Wezz, I am so sorry...I agree with OTWO and you should seek professional help...The congregation will offer help but you well know who's side they will take...your wife will be getting a lot of support...they will put ideas in her head and impute you with bad motives for converting into the "truth" in the first place. They will try to find faults in you as the reason you are leaving the congregation. You will be better off if you use an unpartial mediator...not a "spiritually qualified" elder...Be patient with your wife and tell her that your love for her is unconditional - regardless of being a JW or not.
