They came, they saw, they left...
by NVR2L8 induring the holiday period one if my wife's brothers had planned a vacation in our area.
they drove about 6 hours to a condo they leased for a week to celebrate their wedding anniversary with their married son and daughter.
they called my wife to let her know they were coming to visit us since they were 2 hours away.

I live 600 km from my family and even when I was l active in the cult I would never hear from them unless I called them. They always say how busy they are because they are pioneering or as an elder. They don't know anything else than slaving for the cult so that's all they crave to do. At 81 my mother is still pioneering...she doesn't want to do anything else. She sits at home on standby mode until the next meeting or field service arrangement. My younger non JW brother just became a grand father and wanted to visit my mom with his new grand son...she couldn't give him a time that didn't interfere with her service schedule! And they dare saying it isn't a cult. It's all about showing off their zeal to impress others. -

Telling others in your congregation you drove 7 hours to go visit Bethel gets you more recognition as a zealous JW than visiting your sister... -

Thanks 3rd Gen...I am afraid that any other comment on the situation will be seen by my wife as an attack on her faith. After 4 years she stubbornly refuses to engage in any discussion regading the WT organization in fear that it will lead to an unfavorable conclusion. -

They drove 7 hours to visit Bethel and 7 hours back. They only had time for lunch with their sister...because they're soooo busy! Mind you, they were vacationing for the rest of the week at a condo. -

During the holiday period one if my wife's brothers had planned a vacation in our area. They drove about 6 hours to a condo they leased for a week to celebrate their wedding anniversary with their married son and daughter. They called my wife to let her know they were coming to visit us since they were 2 hours away. My wife discussed the accommodations to sleep the 6 of them and 2 children. I was looking forward seeing all of them since it's been 5 years between visits. So on the day of their arrival I went to work and when I returned I didn't see their car in my driveway. Did they arrive I asked my wife? She said they came and left already! Well that was nice of them...I could see that my wife wasn't too happy because she was anticipating spending time with her JW family. Later I found out that they actually were coming to visit Bethel and since we are 30 minutes further they were stopping by after just to say hello. Now that I am out of the cult I can clearly see how the loyalty to the organization trumps even the family bonds...they had several hours to visit a printing shop and offices but no time for their JW sister...and I guess the fact their brother in law (me) is inactive didn't help. -

Check your congregations for this creeper (Frederick Mclean)
by Stealth injust saw this scumbag profiled by john walsh "on the hunt".
if he is still associating with the jehovah's witnesses it is likely the governing body wt headquarters knows where he is at and is protecting him.

I would be more concerned about actual pedophiles your elders are protecting by not disclosing them to the congregation..there are many more of them than one MacLean... -

Attention AMIII! you need to read WATCH OUT FOR SELF RIGHTEOUSNESS- A WT you would never see today!
by BU2B ini was reading an article from a '95 wt called "watch out for self righteousness" it exposes amiii as a true pharisee by their own definition.
the style and content sound a lot like ray franz but it obviously was not.
i am confident you would never see an article like this in todays wt land.

Talking about rules, several years ago there was a local needs talk saying that it was inappropriate for brothers and sisters to hug or kiss as a greeting and although it was not wide spread, this custom was worldly and could be used by Satan to lure some to immorality. I felt targeted since in my culture even brothers hug and kiss..So a few weeks went by and we had our COs visit but it wasn't our usual CO. The couple that came were ex missionaries and the brother was now training to be a WT attorney. As soon as they arrived the sister ran from the back to the front of the hall where I was standing and gave me the biggest and the longest hug ever while kissing me on the cheeks. Many in the hall saw this and probably were shocked when they realized the gorgeous blond woman was the sub COs wife! I had known her a long time and I helped her learn a second language. I also learned sign language with her and worked with the hearing impaired, but no one knew this. Her husband then came and after the introduction he gave me a hug...From then on I returned to my good habit of hugging and kissing friends unchallenged by the elders. Still several years later I spoke with an ex jw who was one of the elders then and he said I was under watch for flirting and that's why I was passed for service privileges. Not to brag but I have been faithful to my wife for over 40 years and no longer being a JW hasn't changed that.

Which helps more? The trolley dollies or this guy....
by Slidin Fast inhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aubtadi7zuy.
i am not usually impressed by human interest stories but this guy does more good in five minutes, does more to promote humanity in 5 minutes than a bus load of sterile literature carts and cartons of propaganda.. what say you, can one person make difference?

Raised in the cult I was never involved in any kind of charity until I left. Now I participate in several fund raisers for humanitarian causes and for the first time in my life I experienced the true joy of giving. -

I Let Go Of Faith Ten years Ago Today
by cofty inafter more than 30 years as a jw and 9 as a born-again christian i finally let go of faith 10 years ago today.... it was on boxing day 2004 that news of the asian tsunami put the final nail in the coffin of my relationship with god.
since that time i have listened attentively to every possible argument in defense of faith; there has never been a single moment that i have felt any discomfort with my decision.. life without god has been liberating.
no longer do i have to defend the indefensible.

My story is similar to yours Cofty. I no longer believe in anything that requires blind faith. I know this life is all we have and I am at peace with the fact that it will all end when I die. Today my life is less complicated and I enjoy being the master of my destiny. -

Status of people shunned before rule change?
by rebel8 inback in the early 1980s, some congregations were "disassociating" unbaptized people who committed alleged disfellowshipping offenses and weren't repentant.
it was announced from the platform in the same way, "so and so is disassociated," followed by 1 scripture about shunning and another about the specific sin that person had committed.
the ritual shunning was exactly the same as dfing.

The only announcement I ever heard was so and so is no longer an unbaptized publisher. There was no official shunning but of course you would limit your association to congregation meetings with such people.
