  good books on critical thinking

  Critical thinking is a very simple process (and you will never find a step-by-step manual. Even though some books claim that like the bible and every WT literature), basically:

  - Scientific method.

  - Logic (in a nutshell: two true statements can't contradict one each other).

  - Occam's razor.

  - Fallacy detection (see some list of fallacies).

  - Reality check.

  If your worldview needs some flaw in evidence, internal logic, simple explanation and fallacies, you can be sure (99.9999%) you are being fooled.

  And when this happen sooner or later your worldview will be crushed by the supreme judge of all worldviews: the reality.

  Reality destroy every flawed worldview, like "1914 generation that will not pass away" and "communication with dead people", for instance.

  Jw's dont really care about doctrine do they?

  it seems to me that jw's really don't care about doctrine.

  ephesians chapter 4 verse 11 "and he gave some as apostles others as prophets, others as evangelists, others as pastors and teachers to equip the holy ones for the work of ministry for the building up of the body of christ until we attain the unity of faith and knowledge of the son of god to mature manhood to the extent of the full stature of christ so that we may no longer be in infants tost by waves and swept along by every wind of teaching arising from human trickery from their cunning in the interest of deceitful scheming".

  is it just me or does this verse totally annihilate the doctrine or belief in new light.

  No they don't.

  Actually they can't, because if they start to care they will leave.

  That's the reason of dumbing down doctrines.

  Doctrines it's not something to care or research, you only must "listen, obey and be blessed".

  It's that simple.

  i think much of it has been a delayed reaction to her df'ing, the general fallout when leaving the wtbs and family issues.. i just wanted to give you guys the heads up and give you a chance to show how much we care about her.. thanks for listening..

  It's beyond obvious that she have some serious psychological issues.

  Lately I was avoiding any interaction with her even not reading her posts anymore (tec and villagegirl too).

  When several people keeping telling you to search a therapist it's better to you to listen.

  I hope she recover soon from whatever happened with her.

  We believe in dogmas and doctrines.

  We understand and accept scientific theories.

  what is wrong with this picture?.

  the consciousness of the fetus would be what, then?.

  The start of your consciousness does not coincide with your birth.

  In a practical sense the brain predates the consciousness. But I think consciousness is an inherent property of the universe and it makes crude matter to aggregate complexity to the possibility of a direct interaction of mind upon matter.

  I think the mind is more important than the brain. We just have to find a way to harbour the mind with some better substrate. Nature used an egg like substrate to keep something of higher value. Now is our turn to design something better like nanobots to replace our neurons.

  I think we are the first conscious beings in this universe. Now is our fate to fill it with intelligent life (not necessarily human life).

  Interpretations and interpretations here comes a few...

  Jesus did not poo and piss, all of what he ate was transformed in thin air (sublimation). But we can imply he had a lot of farts...

  Jesus was full incorporated (mind+body) at the moment of his baptism, until that he was a kind of perfect human body running on BIOS. That's the reason why the lack of information of his youth before baptism.

  Jesus possibly was delivered through Mary's ears or from a magical belly hatch! I'm not kidding, it was serious in Middle Ages!

  Bonus: Mary's mother was a virgin too! I mean she was born from a virgin!
