often, i speak to people who seem to have good jobs.
when i ask how they got that job, then they tell me that finally it came down to good contacts.. many jobs i had were also because of good contacts.
naturally, having a college or university degree is what it takes, but having contacts seems to be what opens doors.. so, how did you find your job, with help from an influencial person, or all by yourself?
Every job I got, I got the old fashioned way. Resumes, phone calls and interviews. I never had anyone that got me a job or helped me get a job.

This issue was the only reasons that I went to the circuit ASS-emblies and district CON-ventenions with my ex and the two rugrats. I didn't mind helping, I just hated sitting in the hot sun at Dodger Stadium for an entire weekend. Though I never seemed to mind doing the same for Dodger games on a Sunday afternoon.
I have posted some of the run-ins her and I had with self-righteous jerks, errrrrrrrr.....attendants. All in all I miss the CON-ventions. Yes, I miss the hours of mindless repitition. The struggle to get seats in some type of shade. The smell of the restrooms. The ring of sweat drenching my shirt collar from having to wear a tie. Yes, I really do miss these things.

Def, he main issue is how the version was translated. The NIV is a thought for thought translation, ie. the translators attempt to take the original and bring it into modern equivelency.
The NASB, which I use, and is used by most scholarsd that I personally know, is a word for word translation, and is considered the most accurate English translation currently in use.
Whether or not the name "Jehovah" is used is of no consequence to me. That is simply a JW red herring. I would ask them why the NWT omits the insertion of "Jehovah" in Romans 10:9, 10 where Paul quoting from, I believe, Joel says that unless you believe in your heart that Jesus was resurrected, and confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord (if the NWT is consistent then they must put Jehovah here) when doing so would flatly refute their anti-trinitarian view?
Either translation has their good points and bad ones. There is no "correct" translation. I always recommend to new Christians to get the one they are the most able to read and understand.

i think that's his name - you know the kid from that show growing pains?
i knew he was in the left behind movie and i think maybe another apocalyptic one, but then i saw him on some evangelical show talking about how to 'witness' to people, spouting a simplistic 'technique' of showing how people are sinners against the 10 commandments and then telling them you can be saved.. one thing that stands out is i could swear his acting in gp was more convincing than this spaced out kinda look he had in this show.

As I mentioned before, no Christian that I have ever met, nor heard preach enjoy the doctrine of hell. How you think that is beyond me. For you to think that of any person is so shocking to me, that I really have no idea how to respond. As I have posted before, it is not that I get some sadistic glee from knowing that some will go to hell. That knowledge is the impetus for me to share my faith, and to point out that there IS a way of escape.
If Comfort and Cameron are actually teaching literal hellfire, then I would say they are incorrect. Because the Bible also speaks of hell as a place of utter darkness. From eveything I have studied on hell, I can only determine that "fire", "darkness", and "torment" are figurative words to paint a picture of an actual place. No place can have fire, which gives of light, in a place of utter darkness.
What I believe hell is, is a literal place that is completely cut-off from the presense of God. The earth we live in is in the presense of God. This is a point Jesus made where he spoke of God making the sun shine, and rain fall on both the righteous and the wicked. This is called God's common grace.

First of all I have looked into just about every major religion, with the exception of Islam, both to study it, during my inital journey away from the JWs, and after I became a Christian. Personally, I don find much merit in the world religions. I rejected Buddhism, Hinduism, New Age, JW's (which I was raised in), LDS, SDA, etc. of the basis of one question. That question is, "What must be in order for what is to be what it is?"
None of the religions I mentioned adequately answer that question. Christianity answered that question in spades. My "pride" does not come from the fact that I know Christianity, or believe that I have relationship with Jesus that will save me from hell. It does not come from my belief that many will be eternally removed from God's presence after death. I get no pleasure from that. In fact that is what motivates a number of Christians to proselytizing. You know concern for the fellow man. However, I think that it is easier for the secular person to think that Christians are a bounch of nuts, wackos, idiots, etc. than to actually look at what the real issue is.
