  If it weren't for family, I would've drifted away by now. Although it's difficult to be in this situation

  I can relate to your predicament. I grew up in the "truth" and I have drifted away because I couldn't stand it any longer. My family are still in the org. So far they don't know my true feelings about the WBTS and I have no idea how they will react when they find out.

  I too find a great deal of comfort here, to realise your not on your own.

  WT & Awake Subscription Procedure

  i moved into a new area several months ago, and my subscriptions to the watchtower and awake magazines expired.

  (note: i'm baaad, not attending meetings in my new area.).

  so it'd be easy to renew my subscription, right?

  If you all don't believe it is the "truth" why do you waste your time reading such trash? Yes, Thinkers Wife said for research. You can research the org for the rest of your lives, but what's the point. If you believe its a false religion like the rest of religions, then why keep putting that stuff into your heads?

  like many of you i dedicated many years of my life searching for the "true" faith or religion.. after researching and considering religion i came to the conclusion that there is not such.

  i decided to worship god in my own temple.

  i hope you find yours.. the force be with you all !!!

  Nor could I cope with "belonging" to any group that expected me to be at a certain place at a certain time on a regular basis.

  My view exactly. One of the reasons I stopped going to meetings was because I never believed that a God of "love" would expect his "happy" people to live like martyrs. And thats how I view going to meetings 3 times a week, field service on the weekends, study for meetings and bible reading etc on the rest of the nights. And no time for relaxation, entertainment, family life.

  To live like this until the end came, I don't think so. My husband and I did it all our lives, no way were we going to inflict this on our children.

  Old Habits Die Hard

  keep in mind, now, i haven't been out in field service since sometime in early 1987.. this morning i headed off out the door and down the stairs, cheerful and ready to tackle the day.

  got to my ride, and realized i had forgotten to pick up the case that contains my laptop and paperwork.

  so, back up the stairs, in the door.

  Found mine 3 weeks ago in the cupboard still packed with mags, books, etc even had filled in return visit slips from 5 years ago.

  Figured it was about time I emptied it out, and caught myself wondering if the people would still be interested. Gave myself a good hard slap to bring me to my senses.

  when i think back to being in the wtbts i can vividly remember the elders and their weilding of power.. as an adult, and in hindsight, i can now look back in total distaste and disgust at the power and control these men exercised over our lives with 'apparent' enjoyment.. i would like any former or current elders to explain the actual feelings you had when exercising this control.. was it exhilirating?

  or was it painful?.

  i would also like responses from non elders as to how you actually felt on the other end of this control situation.. la donna ana

  I do not think that either partner should control the other. But there are times when a decision is best left to the husband or vice versa.

  This is a topic I am interested in to. I have often wondered the same thing.

  I've always felt that elders enjoy the "power" they have over others. They are in "control" of so many lives and if people don't toe the line they elders can pretty much do what they want to them. When people have power over others they tend to abuse it.

  There's many a time I felt like giving them a piece of my mind but the "fear" of what they could do to me or my family always held me back.

  we had a wonderful and most exemplary family in our congregation.

  they are hard workers, hospitable, caring, generous, suffer with you through hardship, kind, compassionate, and as loyal to the organization as any family could be.

  the father (an elder)wanted to do things right (by the org that is).

  What was this guy thinking? How many parents involve the law when their child steals. They deal with the problem themselves.

  .... And JW's parents wonder why more and more of their children are leading double lives. If you can't trust your own parents when you're a child who can you trust.
