I served as a elder for 24 years. I saw all of the above that was mentioned and then some. Most notable was a almost fist fight between two elders over who was right. Are the body of elders spirit directed in the three congregation I served in I never saw it. Totally ADD

I was 14 in 1968 all I wanted to do was kiss a girl. Scared to death about the war. Watch it on TV every night. After lunch at school we got to go to the gym and talk to friends and play records over the loud speaker system. That's when I first heard Iron Butterfly Ina-gadda-da-vida and feel in love with rock and roll. Watch both Martin Luther King and Sen. Kenndy killed on TV. Watch the Chicago riots on TV and at the end of the year watch 3 men orbit the moon and read from Gen 1:1. Got my first type writter, it was a manual one becuase I was expected go to jail for not going to war. According to my parents they may not have electric in prison. This all scared me so much I would go into deep depressions for weeks. Grew 4 inches that year to the height I am today. And finally in the spring of 1969 kissed my first girl before my 15 brithday. The Mental Regulating of Jehovah is CHILD ABUSE
by PublishingCult ini was born and raised in the jehovah's witness cult.
looking back at my childhood growing up in the organization and seeing the results of my own life, and dealing with the consequences of indoctrinating my own children with these beliefs, i am sickened and disgusted.
it's never too late to learn, however.

Dear Strawberry Cake, it is so nice to hear from one who was a loving parent while in the JW cult. As a born-in I knew of only one set of parents that treated their children in such a loving manner in all the years I was in the JW cult. When Misses Totally ADD and I had children I remember full well how the others in the congregation looked and treated my wife and child. Every time he cried every head would turn with a scowl on their face. Telling my wife what to do and not do to keep the baby quiet and still. Not one would even offer to help her during the meeting. Field service was a another matter. We were usually sent on our own. Growing up in this cult and being treated badly most of the time makes one become abusive also. True there are various degrees of it, but abusive anyway. PublishingCult like many others realize when you are abused you also become abusive and thats were the anger comes in when you realize the JW cult caused it. Totally ADD

I agree with Mad Sweeney and carla. Its one thing to teach your children to think and make sound decisions for themselves but as we all know the indoctrination by JW is only based on rules that are handed down by a cult. So for a parent in this cult it is impossible not to scar your child. Everthing the cult touches ends up in abuse intentional or not. As one with PTSD casued by a elder when I was a child I have the same feelings that Publishingcult has. It has put a really bad taste in my mouth when it comes to my childhood memoirs. Those brought up in this cult have had their childhood stolen from them. I understand the bitterness that Publishingcult has. Like you I had to ask for forgiveness from my grown children. Thankfully they forgave me and we have a good relationship now. My own opinion is this organization only attracts emtionally or mentally ill people who are looking for someone to tell them what to do because they have no structure in their life's and this cult gives them structure. I truly feel the pain. Totally ADD

New member - my story
by Millions injust a brief introduction, i thought i would try out one of the more established forums, have done some stuff on youtube and other places but thought i would give this a try.. potted history: raised jw by mother, in it for 30 years or so, baptised at age 18, regular pioneer at 20, ms a couple years later, mts at 26 and got assignment to a new cong, elder at around 29, came off pioneering around 31, came off as elder around 32, started to slowly wind down, completely stopped attending about 3 years ago, disassociated dec 2010. pause for breath.. the last 5 years or so have been a painfully gradual process of deconstructing myself and then piecing together fragments of my shattered life that are still valid outside the organisation.
the question 'who am i?
' has been a continual investigation; every day for the first couple of years i would realise another subject or issue that i didn't have my own opinions about.

Welcome pica-chu. If you have not yet, you will soon learn you are not the strange thinking one. Here you will find support and understanding of what you have gone through in the JW cult. Also you will find your thinking ability will increase the more you read and ponder what others have to say on this board. So good to see another one who has broke free from the cult. Totally ADD

It might be better to not even have the Internet. April 15th WT
by life is to short inok i was just blown away when i heard this today while driving, at first i thought it was the some old same old but then it went on and it seems like it is on a different level.. the subheading is "guard your heart by exercising self-control.
on page 27 par 17 it says "one way a person could wonder into the foolish course of the "young man in want of heart" is by aimlessly flipping though television channels or surfing the internet.
whether intentionally or not, he might chance upon sexually stimulating scenes.

You all know the WT does almost all their congregation business with the internet. That means elders have to have computers with internet connection so the WT gets their time slips, money and orders. Most may not know this but most congregation banks accounts have the WT able to access them. So when it comes to the internet and how bad it is they are right. The WT is taking full advantage of the internet and using it to control their flock. In 2009 I was at Patterson for the one week elder school. I was told one of their large garages they have was to be converted into a facility to accomodate servers. I don't know what that all means but it sounds big to me. Totally ADD

This is why the Misses and I are going to be selling donuts in our new business this coming Sept. The recession hurt us alot. So in our late 50's we will be starting a new life. Away from the cult and elbow deep in donut dough LOL. We have some savings set up for retirement but that will not be enough for us to live on. I am not going to end up like my parents did were we had to come in and take care of them. Totally ADD
