I agree with all of you. I was 19 when I got married. If I was a betting man I would not of given it 5 years. But 37 years later we are still together. It was not because of the truth. We went and got professional help. If it wasn't for that we would have broken up. WT like many other relgions use sex as a control mechanism over their flocks. Fact is from the time we are born we are on the road to reproduce. We are designed to have sex. But when you get a bunch of old men together they know from the get go that the subject of sex is a good way to control you. For the most part they make it dirty, bad and if you go by what they want you to do unnatural. Because of this many, myself included get married to young and for all the wrong reasons. In my life I have seen to many JW couples both men and women preverted by the WT viewpoint on sex. Totally ADD

JWs and Infant Weddings - Marry as young as legally possible
by doubtful init sickens me to hear the venemous propoganda against the evils of higher education.
they talk so much about how it consumes valuable time during one's youth - how it takes away time from pursuing spiritual goals like pioneer service, missionary service, mts, bethel, etc..that's one of their biggest talking points in their argument against a college education.
their other point is that we shouldn't be preparing for a long stay in this system, so why the need to prepare for a lucrative and satisfying career by attending college for 4 years, when time is running out, and the big a is literally right around the corner...it shows a lack of faith in jah's promises and a materialistic attitude..etc.. yet..they never say anything about the countless thousands of teenage or near-teenage weddings!

June 15, 2011 WT... Are they really getting that desperate?
by Alfred inso i was just browsing the june 15, 2011 (study edition) watchtower and came across this seemingly desperate article in the last two pages (29 & 30):.
a christian has a scriptural obligation to care for his family, and that includes providing for their material needs.

The last elder school I went to had a talk on how bad higher education is. Being near Gainsville FL he said the witness kids who are going there are droping out of the WT like flies. Higher education like that is extremely dangerous to our young ones. Its bad, bad, bad for your JW health. Idrnomo its been 3 months now sense I have been to a meeting but before that no one gave it much thought. But I am in a pretty old congregation. Most there were lucky to have a high school education. But there is a big push to stop higher education in the JW world. It reminds me of the old TW ad many years ago were it said "Knowledge is Power". The GB does not want their flock to have power because of knowledge. The only power they want is what they have and nobody else can have it. Totally ADD

Have anyone wonder if all this sell off in Brooklyn is a knee jerk reaction to what is happening in Australia! If there is a grain of truth to this WT is going to lose alot of money. Totally ADD

No shortage of prophecy
by jean-luc picard init is easy to understand why some could have nagging doubts when seeing world events.. "maybe it is the truth after all?".
i came accross this site http://www.prophecynewswatch.com and realise ( well i knew already) that there is no shortage of prophecy, or prophets.. in 1970, i was just a boy, i remember hearing on the radio.
"by 1978 there will be no water left that is fit enough to drink, but we shouldnt worry because by 1977 the air will no longer support human life".

If I remember my history back in the 19th century we had France warring with all of Europe and UK warring with US then I think Germany twice trying to dominate all of Europe. Our history teacher called the France and the 2 German wars as World Wars. For those folks who lived back then it was not a peaceful time to live and for most life was very hard. I may be wrong on this but this is what I was taught back in the 60's. Totally ADD

DISCUSSION board.......or.....COMMENT board?
by Terry inthe following is only my own personal analysis.. take it or leave it.
but, by all means jump in and have a say.. .
i think more and more we are losing our grasp on a wonderful venue at jw-net.. as a discussion board, i mean.. at one time, there were a great many wonderful and interesting discussions by a variety of persons with varied backgrounds having a good.

Terry I read your post about 2 hours ago and have been thinking of a reply to you and others about what you brought out. When I started lurking serveral years ago I remember many great discussions from people who at first scared me. Then after thinking it through I finally got what they were talking about. After awhile I was able to understand the points they were getting at. Finally I join the board back in Jan. this year. I can only speak for myself but I still have a very hard time being confrontational with my view point with others. I guess it is my upbringing as a JW. In the 50's - 70's JW were confrontational at the doors were I came from and it was always a one way discussion. So it is really ingrain in me when I see this I shutup and give in to what is being said. When I have to make a comment as a defense mechanism I always use a understanding way of speech. My father loved confrontation he seemed to thrive on it. Me on the other hand consider it abusive. If I did not agree with him on anything he would confront me and let me have it in a way only a true blue JW cult member could do it. It left me feeling 2 feet tall. I think alot of us new ones may have gone through similar experiences. I don't know but this many explain why you get more comments and not discussions. As a born-in imformation is one way street. That's leaves no room for your thoughts and contrary ideas. So I am still learning to express my thoughts on matters discuss here even if it is contrary to others people thinking.
I hate to say it but some of the threads I read I have never thought about before. Me with my JW education it takes me alot of time to understand what is being talk about. When it comes to deep bible discussions with references on interpretation of how a word is translated I soon lose interest. I feel like I am back at the KH during a boring WT lesson on their viewpoint of what is the right way of believing it. I know it is me, I will have to work my way through all of this. I have never been much of a book learner mostly because of my ADD until recently. So for now this is about as much of a discussion I can give you. I will try to be more assertive in my up coming dissusions in the future. Thanks for making me think. I need that. Totally ADD

jean-lue picard are you not from the future to destory the Borg on 21st century earth? That is a good way to look at the GB teaching as rants from Gaddafi. Thanks jam for the humor. Totally ADD

Do your elders care at all?
by Mr. Falcon ini currently have an elder body who, for the most part, seems utterly complacent and disinterested in actually "shepherding" anything.
i can't tell if they are lazy or just oblivious to their responsiblities of being "teachers".
it seems like they are the last to know anything and always procrastinate on everything.

You are right on Mr. Falcon. I remember back in the late 90's I went to bed around 10 PM and went to sleep and started to have one of my PTSD dreams at the time. About 30 mins. into this my sons walks in my bedroom to wake me up. I started screaming and kicking thinking I was being attack. It took 5 mins after I wokeup to regain my composure. Why did my son come in to wake me up? A sister called at 10:30 and insisted she needed to talk to me. My son said I was in bed asleep but she had him wake me up because she had something real important to tell me. Guess what was so important. She called to tell me that I did not love her and how dare I be sleeping and not thinking of her. I really at one time wanted to help the friends but like you said after a while you don't want to be around these people. Elders are not trained to handle these kind of things. Totally ADD
