When my brother threw a baseball and broke our kitchen window my Dad seriously pondered weather he should replace it, because after all "the end is so near". The year was 1959

The Generation(s) That Wasted Their Lives
by undercover ingrowing up as a jw, you see the world differently than most everyone else.
you see the world as something that is going to end very soon.
all that we know will be gone by the time we're adults.. when we were young, we were living in the last days and were expecting armageddon before we grew old.

Reaching the Goal of Baptism ... old enough?
by wannabefree inthe watchtower november 15, 2010, young ones - what will you do with your life?.
page 14, paragraph 12.
... you should get baptized when you are fully aware of what being one of jehovah's witnesses involves and when you are sure that you are ready and willing to take on this responsibility.

So now, the bros. are putting on the pressure for her to get babtised. She came home this week and told her Dad that she has made arrangements with the brothers to go over babtism questions. He reminded her of his household rule: No babtism till 18yrs. by then she will we an adult and will have the maturity of an adult to make this important decision. wellllll it doesn't help when the mom is sabatoging this rule by pushing for her to get babtised. Poor guy, now he is getting the ' silent treatment' from both wife and daughter. But he says he's willing to be the 'bad guy' on this issue and will stand firm NO BABTISM TILL YOUR 18 !!

I had a talk with a Bro. who was very excited about the closing of the local Branch here and those around the world. I asked him what was so exciting about these developments. He told me that he 'thinks' that these closings free up the Bethal workers to join with the local congs. in a increased witnessing work the likes never seen before. He talked about the march around the walls of Jericho for 6 days, well we are now engaging in the 7th day march for 7 times...and then destruction of this system like it happened to the walls of Jericho crumbling. I don't know where he got his info, unless it was 'water cooler talk'
Now some 7 months later I see him and inquire about how things are going. Well... his previous excitement is gone. He is bemoaning about how hard it has been on the local congregations who have taken in these bethal workers. These people had no where to go and not means to provide for themselves. These Brothers have actually become a burden to the congregations instead of a blessing.

Ooops! I still think it is a great quote no matter who said it.

"I mourn the loss of thousands of precious lives, but I will not rejoice in the death of one, not even an enemy. Returning hate for hate multiplies hate, adding deeper darkness to the night already devoid of stars. Darkness cannot drive out darkness: only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate: only LOVE can do that" Martin Luther King Jr.

MEMORIAL AT THE KINGDOM HALL OVERFLOWING WITH NEWCOMERS?
by steve2 inthis is a question for those brave souls who, for whatever reason, attended this year's memorial: .
who else was there?
was there any evidence that the witnesses are still attracting a large crowd of "newly interested ones" (to use their awful phrase) or even complete strangers drawn in by the door-to-door work.. i hear lots of comments about how poorly attended some of the weekly meetings in the halls have now become, so i'm curious about what you guys may have seen when you attended in the past day or so.

" I only need a place to lay my head. I won't even need that soon." "I just want to sleep for a few days"
Daniel, I have been following this saga of yours with a sad heart. . My concern is with your statements above. If there was ever a time in your life when you need professional guidance... THIS IS IT !! Having a face to face with another person who is trained and really cares for you is a priority. Talk this thru and don't make any major decisions until you get your emotions in check. I don't know you at all, but as a compassionate friend I urge you to take care of yourself first right now.

Are you a spiritual? - What is the definition?
by TastingFreedom inas a jw, the definition of spirituality is very limited and narrow minded.
but i have realized that i'm a spiritual person even as an agnostic.
watchtower's use of the word is completely wrong, and only used to benefit their own agenda.

I believe that being spiritual isn't measured by how long you have been a Christian, how much you know, or how often you go to church. Spiritual maturity is measured by the way you treat other people. It's measured by the love you allow to operate in and through you.
Preach a sermon everyday....use words only when necessary
