  is it just me or has there been a massive change in jws of late?.

  when i grew up in the cult they had a real sense of urgency and would do an hour minimum, these days it’s not even ten mins before coffee break.. same goes for everything else, it’s half hearted .

  It would be such a shit storm if they officially were to state it as symbolic, or even just say "we just don't know". If that were to happen, each Cong would have to start buying Memorial wine by the case.

  Much easier to just not speak of it anymore. (Kinda like the 7000 year long creative days.)

  Home schooled and at 19 seems to be wandering aimlessly in life. Time to get her GED and decide a course in life. A good start would be going to a Community College doing general studies that could be applied to future pursuits.

  Sadly, her parents likely just want her to "hang on" since Armageddon will take place SO VERY VERY SOON.

  When the GB 'locked down' the JWs over Covid it did irreparable harm.

  THIS is SO TRUE!!

  First, many got very comfortable about NOT having to go to the Hall and just Zoom in.

  Second, many of those Zoomers got bored &/or fell asleep, so they decided to CYA and turn off their camera. So, it gave the appearance of them "attending", but no one really knew.

  Finally, some of those Zoomers with their cameras off realized that they could go do anything else (watch TV, have a beer, etc) and they got comfortable with just pretending to Zoom in.

  When that happens, they were no longer being fed the Koolaid. When there is not that constant steady hammering of it, you discover you feel better without it and the next step is:

  Even twenty years ago most JWs were just going through the motions, but I suppose it could be even worse now. I can't personally speak on that as I'm not there and I don't care.

  This is obvious if you look at what JWS DO vs what they SAY. There is no urgency. They clearly do not believe they have a "life saving message" nor is there any urgency about getting that message out. Their religion is a social group. No different than if they were attending the Kiwanis Club or were a member of the Shriners.

  thinking sometimes about my youth days and the stories my grandfather told me about our jw congregation.

  do you recognize that your congregation was full of somehowe strange folks, very low educated, poor and simple?.

  the po was an elder with some distance, with some personality acting intelligent and following the rules strict.. there was always a kind of scandal.

  Being intelligent and/or gifted doesn't prevent one from getting caught up in a Cult, but I do suspect it is more difficult today in the "age of the internet" where most cults, like JWs, have been exposed and criticism is widely available.

  I think it was those (that I perceived) intelligent and gifted JWs that kept me in the religion longer than I otherwise would have been involved. There were several brothers that I really admired. They were educated (so I suppose I figured they should KNOW it better than I -- esp the brother that had been an ancient history major).

  Today, I don't think there are many "educated" that remain, though some are "intelligent", but still caught up in the cult and drinking the Koolaid.

  Is Watchtower totally off base on Armageddon?

  to me it is quite evident that the gt spoken about in matthew 24, mark 13 and luke 21 is a one time, non-repeatable localized event resulting in the destruction of jerusalem and the temple followed by the dispersion of surviving jews throughout the nations.. however, what is not so clear to most is that the gt of revelation deals with the same event.

  my understanding is that the gb of jehovah witnesses has no clue as to how to interpret the apocalyptic messages found both in the synoptics and revelation.

  but steve greg has armageddon down pat.

  i got an email notice today on this excellent letter of resignation from a german family that is trending on reddit.

  i thought i would share it here if anyone is so inclined to write one.

  for those with pimi jw family and jw business connections, it may not be wise to share such a letter, but i imagine it must be very freeing to send such a letter.
