  Good talk with mum and dad

  she's 77 and both mum and dad have been witnesses for nearly 30 years.

  they've been pretty hardline in their time but just recently things have changed.

  today, to my joy, mum wanted to celebrate her birthday so i bought her a big bunch of flowers and a box of chocolates (yeah i know, not very imaginative) and intend to take them out to lunch tomorrow when i've got more time.

  It's great that they have come to realize that their relationship with their family is more important than the man-directed, man-inspired shunning policy. I wouldn't expect them to do anything that would cost them their JDub friends and support group at the KH, but it's great that they have come to see that it's OK to think for themselves on some matters.

  My parents in their 80s, life long JDubs, called me when they were reading the new yearbook asking what the heck about the number of memorial partakers? Shouldn't this number be going DOWN? Everything they were taught would happen long before now, still ain't happening.

  Has anyone left still believing it was the truth?

  it seems that most xjws have left because at one point in their jw life something happened that made them start to think something wasn't right with the religion.

  when i left, i still believed the jws had "the truth".

  i was dying inside, trapped and unhappy (another poster's words, but describes exactly how i felt).

  I think there are also a lot of people who haven't left (I mean they still attend meetings, etc) and don't believe it is the truth. I have a strong suspicion that a lot of these stay put simply because of the friendships and socializing.

  I think that is the lesser of two evils for many who are not willing to endure the loss of family & friends. As long as you are not involved in conduct that will get you put out (DFd) then you can coast along with that smile on your face and enjoy any benefits and ignore the things you don't like.

  What a STUPID morning on the ministry!

  tim here.. ok... so... let me tell you about this morning and the utter stupidity of the brothers!.

  just to give you a bit of background info, for those who dont know, i am a gay, 23 year old jw and im seriously heading out of the borg!

  Im trying to be strategic at the moment, as im in a situation where if i just gave it all up now, id be worse off!

  i wasnt using the tract for this stupid i no longer shave,

  i dont use the NWT but the King James,campaign to get people to the memorial!

  I question your strategy if you are indeed trying to "lay low" for a while longer. I say you're heading into questionable territory, throwing up red flags everywhere. NOT the way to lay low.

  Most would think they are in error. For the few that might conclude they have a better understanding than the spirit directed F&DS, they would wait patiently for the Slave to "catch up" instead of "running ahead" and espousing their own view.

  The classic features of a JW wedding are:

  firstly a wedding/sales talk that mostly features heavily on how the woman should behave (hint, doormat) and lightly brushes over the fact of the husbands bevhaviour ( oh yeah he should treat her well).

  the reception normaly at some crummy comunity hall with yellowed ceilings and chucks of damp plaster falling off the walls.

  the seats normaly arranged facing eachother all around the edge, so that theres a huge unused space in the middle and everyone is climbing over everyone elses legs to get to their chair.. a big spread donated by everyone, normaly an ode to food poisoning.

  Many of the weddings here are as described above as they are at the KH. To have the wedding anywhere else suggests that the couple COULD NOT use the KH for nefarious reasons. But most receptions lately have been at banquet centers, country clubs, etc with sit down meals and open bar. Friends whose son just got married said they spent $15,000 plus what the bride's family spent. Probably a $25,000 wedding with over 300 in attendance, so really that's less than $100/person.

  Brother Robert Scooty from the Canadian Bethel graced us with his presence..... He cheerfully reported that the Canadian plant has switched to a double shift, from six in the morning to eleven at night. Since distribution hasn't doubled, I'd day the Canadian plant is probably taking over some of the American production.

  Wouldn't a Canadian citizen who is a volunteer at Canadian Bethel still be entitled to the Canadian medical plan/coverage? For US Bethel workers, I'm sure WTS must assume the costs of any medical care. A high deductible major medical health care plan from a insurance provider here is $125/month for a college aged male (more for female, pregnancy risks). For someone in their 30s -- $250/month; in the 50s -- $350/month.

  Don't you think that could be a consideration, esp since the move is planned to exit Brooklyn soon anyway.
