Independence Day Was A Shame

this year independence day , the 4th of july, went mostly unnoticed.

the weather didn’t help for many but besides that, the day was looked upon by news media and politicians as very negative.

there is nothing wonderful about america that should be celebrated!

We (our entire family, us, kids, grandkids) and a number of friends all had a great 4th of July! BBQ ribs, brats, burgers, chicken (for the health conscious) and lots of cerveza for the adults. Mimosas and Bloody Marys for brunch. Everyone enjoyed the pool (even though the night temps kept the water at only about 80°). Lots of neighbors within view had very impressive fireworks displays of their own and one evening we drove into the small town nearby which put on a fantastic fireworks display. (Not Disney, but about 40 minutes non-stop).

There was however quite a bit of shooting as a few in the mix brought their guns for some fun target practice. One young lady was excited as it was the first time she had shot a gun. There were no assaults or gunshot wounds despite the fact that the crowd had people of different races and sexual orientation and yet no arguments or fights about which bathroom to use, etc. GOSH! Now that I think about it -- Maybe it was a little boring? What a shame!

Look at the fucking pathetic shape of things due to those with "years of experience in politics". (Of course, they are all doing extremely well financially on their modest Gov't income.)

Will there be a sense of urgency in 30 years?

it's pretty easy to see how current events would have any jw convinced the end is imminent, but i just don't see how there could be a major push for zealous service, pioneering, etc.

decades into the future.

even if (when) world events happen periodically that could scare the r&f, there are now countless hours of hd video of jw leaders saying how close the end is.

There was a sense of urgency in 1941.

There was a sense of urgency in 1975.

There was a sense of urgency in 2000.

There is a sense of urgency (at least they proclaim it) now.

Does this look like the WT is going to be around a long time? One Watchtower @ One Awake for the public in 2022

i keep hearing that the watchtower org is going to be around forever because of the many other religions that have been around a long time.

but i disagree because the wt is not like other religious cults.. the watchtower's breath of life is dependent on the last days that started in 1914. .

you can’t change 1914 without a death blow to the entire organization.. the watchtower's 2nd reason for staying alive, is it's continual urging that the life saving preaching work of warning people is the most important work ever.. but- it's very obvious to many, even the old ones that instead of speeding up the work------the work is slowing down to a drip.. comment by former believer; .

The Watchtower's breath of life is dependent on the last days that started in 1914.
You can’t change 1914 without a DEATH BLOW TO THE ENTIRE ORGANIZATION.

I find that Ex-JW's are more aware of this kind of doctrinal issue than are the typical R&F JW. A much younger JW friend mentioned to my elderly JW mom about the "nearness" of The End being espoused by the Borg. Mom went out on a limb and asked her if she thinks it is any nearer than it was in 1975 or 1941? Of course, this young woman was not even born in 1975 and has no effing idea what all was said, etc. She of course thought all that 1975 stuff was "apostate" exaggeration.

FACT IS, JW'S DO NOT KNOW WHAT THEY BELIEVE. Ex-JW's have done A LOT more investigating into the Borg than has any JW that I know -- otherwise they would also be an EX-JW.

I think "The Swamp" that runs the USA is making a point to anyone on the outside that they will be crushed if they try to interfere in their Government slush fund in the may that Trump did.

If you could pick out critical errors to the JWS religion what would it be ?

many that have come to this forum have left the jws religion and moved on with their lives but from a outsider's viewpoint what do think makes the jws religion wrong or incorrect as a active christian faith ?.

somethings come to mind such as its long continuous end times/armageddon soon doctrine which has really been a core doctrine for decades going right back to its beginning .. maybe they should have adopted the stance as other christian based faiths and adhered to jesus's own words when he said " no one knows of the time not even he ".

I did not see this mentioned until just now by Rocketman. TO ME, this is the greatest fallacy of all! Holy Spirit of an infallible, omnipotent deity could not fuckup so much on nearly everything they do or say.

When I determined that there absolutely could not be any truth to their claim of Holy Spirit direction, everything else fell apart. From the GB on down to every BOE, they are (at best) just a group of men trying to "do good" by how they understand the Bible (or are told to understand the Bible). At worse, they are just a bunch of power-hungry, pompous assed, egomaniacs. So it is with most every religion.

latest advice for jw parents: if your kids get disfellowshipped, fight the urge to blame yourself.

yes, great advice.

if your clueless, underage child is struggling in life, don't blame yourself, stop thinking about it and move on.

If the don't find fault with the parents then why do they "review" the qualifications of a parent who serves in any "privileged" position?

What aspects do you view most favorably about the WT and/or its religion?

even if you disapprove of much about the wt and/or its religion, what aspects do you view most favorably about the wt and/or its religion?

for me one of the things i view most favorably about the wt and its religion is its extremely strong insistence that jws never intentionally kill another human being.

i especially appreciate that regarding those who have been born, but i think some abortions of human embryos might be justifiable.

The religion teaches a higher moral standard (not necessarily higher than that taught by other religions, but higher than is practiced in our society), though obviously not all JW's adhere to it 100%. I think being raised under those policies prevented me from trying (at least) some "stupid" things as a youth. (Smoking. Drugs. Even guilt free engagement in premarital sex, which could have led to life changing consequences, ie, unwanted pregnancy, etc)

of course some people think he never really existed but everyone has an opinion.

My first employer when I was a teenager. He really mentored me on being in business. He was the kind of guy who got audited by the IRS every year; had his own private 10 passenger Cessna and full time pilot on call; and kow-towed with many of the politicians of the day. A shaker and mover. Much more influential to me than the local pioneers or young guys that went to Bethel. (Thank Dog!)

Maybe that's not what you meant by "in history", but it was in my life.

What Do You Think About New York City?

i have been to the city hundreds of times.

i’ve always loved the vitality of the city and no one could ever say that you could get bored in nyc.

i regularly went for business during the day and in the evenings go to local bars and restaurants as well as the village.

Sounds like NYC has returned to being a shithole. Other than the one-of-a-kind tourist attractions, I saw nothing
"special" about the place. Sad that over 8 million people think that is what all of this country is like, or even worse, that NYC it is the "best" that American has to offer.
