I was lucky in that I was in before the terrible dating rules hit. We were encouraged to date and shop around. When I found out after I left that they had changed the rules, I thought that this was one of the worst decisions that they had ever made. Even though it was easier for us, my wife and I had a bad experience. Just before the wedding, the man I chose to perform the ceremony asked to talk to me and my bride to be. This was minutes before the wedding. He asked us if we had sex yet. We were shocked at his question and assured him that we hadn't. What if we had? He probably would have gone up in front of the congregation and cancelled the wedding That would have been a terrible thing for him to have done, but I am sure that he would have. This is especialy egregious (sp?) because they had a kinder method back then. If a couple had sex before marriage, they were put on probation until after the wedding then the probation was lifted. After all, you can't a sex before marriage once you're married.

Serious Question
by Prisca inas we all know the society has very strict guidelines regarding conduct between the sexes.
in the cong i grew up in, it was so small-minded that if you were single, and seen talking to a member of the opposite sex, you were presumed to be in some sort of relationship with him/her.. sex before marriage is out of the question, with heavy petting also looked down upon.
dating is a serious affair, with all onlookers expecting engagement/marriage to be the outcome.

'Deaden your body members'
by Maxee ini recently read a post on the net regarding how often men think about sex.
i started to think about how often i did.
i followed this up with a survey on antoher site and found i ranked low and they told me i had sexual problems.

At my age, I'm trying to keep my body members alive. If they die, I might go to a faith healer.

The New World
by larc inearlier, i had asked about changes under the thread, "new truth".
your replies were interesting and informative, or should i say it was meat in due season and i found it upbuilding.
i have another question: is the new world view still the same.

Path,
I loved your comments. I know the folks back home don't believe in theories, but when you go from the general concept of paradise to filling in details either through words or pictures, you are engaged in theory building and like the demon theory, the paradise thery has a lot of holes in it. Now, regarding power tools, they could probably counter by saying that when you are going to live forever you can afford to take the time to hand saw wood all day. This is not my idea of paradise. I would prefer to have power tools, so I could get the job done quickly, and get back to petting the lions and lambs. (Roy, if your reading this, don't take it the wrong way. Petting animals is not my idea of foreplay.) As to the subject of waiting on Jehovah. Many years ago there was a song by Fanny Brice entitled "I've been waiting for your phone call for 18 years, maybe you don't love me anymore." Perhaps the JW's should add a new song to their song book. "We've been waiting for Jehovah for 125 years, maybe he doesn't love us any more."
DriveslikeJehu,
Regarding your pithy reply (Did I just use a bad word?) To quote the great philosopher from Mad comics, Alfred E. Neuman "What, me worry?" No point in worrying, I did some good things and I made mistakes. I think my batting average was pretty good, but, then I'm not the judge of that and the whole thing is out my hands. Frankly, I think God is more mercifull than his representatives. But, again, it's not up to me, so I don't worry about it. You should stop worrying too, it's a sin to worry and just another thing for you to worry about.

Earlier, I had asked about changes under the thread, "new truth". Your replies were interesting and informative, or should I say it was meat in due season and I found it upbuilding. I have another question: Is the new world view still the same. The old illustrations showed white people in a park like setting, mowed grass and lots of trees, with lions and lambs together. Later, the group pictures were multicultural which is an improvement. Do they show houses and will there be technology? Having a perfect body in perfect weather, could preclude houses, however, things like violins and pianos wouldn't fare to well. Also, houses are nice for hanging up art work. I like nature, but I also like art, music, technology etc. Anything new here?

Gore would have won in Florida if had reassembled the OJ Dream Team. Johny Cochran would have used the catchy phrase "keep it simple, count the dimple." There's a civics lesson to be learned here - on election day, vote and vote often.
Ohio State lost to Michigan in football this year. Before the Bowl game deadline, Ohio State is asking for a recount.

waiting it's not a slip when you do it on porpoise, I mean purpose..Freud said that because he smoked 20 cigars a day and didn't want to be accused of having an oral fixation - true tidbit.
Regarding JW's, I have mixed feelings about being ambivalent. -

Waiting - there you go quoting people again, acually, what Watson said was "a world market for maybe five computers in every household." (he he I made that up.) now I am going to give you another historical tidbit, a true fact, free for nothing. Tom Watson once worked for John Patterson who founded National Cash Register Co. (NCR) Watson was the eastern regional sales manager for NCR. Patterson fired him and Watson got even by starting IBM.
Another tidibit: both Martin Sheen's and Irma Baumback's fathers were factory workers at NCR. I'm a plencenta, excuse me, a plethora of imformation.
Since you are using Freudian terms let tell you before you tell me. I'm anal expulsive, not anal retentive. -

Judicial Committee Meetings

nelly,
It's terrible what you went through, but perhaps others can learn from your tradegy and escape with less pain. I think the best thing to do is to fade out as quietly as possible. Use tact, in other words, be evasive and lie if you have to. After all, we were well trained in this art, so use it to your advantage. When I was on my way out, family members would ask why. I told them that I didn't want to discuss it, because I didn't want to "stumble them". Actually, I didn't want their wrath, which my comments would certainly have engendered.
I think that if elders asked about a person's sex life it would be nifty to ask them if they could tell about their's first so as to know what was proper. Although a nice fantasy, this probably would not be a good idea. When asked, how about saying "I don't want to tell explicit details, because I don't want you to be tempted into doing something immoral" They probably would assure you that they were spiritually strong enough to handle it and press you for the x rated details.

hey waiting,
"lighten up, don't tighten up" - Richard Pryor.
You should read "A Complete guide to Guys" by Dave Barry. "For those of you who like this kind of book, this is a book you'll like." - Mark Twain. So far, all of my quotes are out of my head, of course, you already knew that I was "out of my head", I've got to get me a book of quotes. Like you, I have a hostility towards authority, and of course, most of it is male. My sister once told my wife that I left because of my hostility towards authority. My wife concurred, and pointed out that the very old JW books had an influence as well. My sister sucked in her breath and abruptly changed the subject, her mind suddenly went shut as it often does. Hard to believe that she was valadictorian of her high school class.Well, I must be off. There again you already knew that I was "off".

xandit, I think waiting's story is more common than you think; I've read many such accounts. I've also listened to a couple of secretly taped disfellowshiping meetings, it wasn't pretty.
You might be a JW if you believe that an elder who is an expert electrician, will be a good therapist or marriage counselor. For some elder therapists, the word therapist should be divided in two, between the e and the r.
Waiting, I've never seen your picture so I don't know if you're cute or not. I do know that you have a cute mind. BTW, the nice thing about being a 60 year old man is that I think women of all ages are cute. When I was 20, cuteness applied to my age, plus or minus 5 years. Life is more bountiful today.
