Edwardo,
I appreciate your sincerity, I really do. I think that you must understand, however, that most of us here have a very different point of view from yours. I surely expect that you know that, OK?
Now, I don't know why you post here, because you know that you will face a fire storm of criticism. So, my question is: why are you here, and why do you bother to comment?

How My Date Went
by Robdar ini went on my date this afternoon.
he is a nice guy.
looks like clint eastwood.

Robdar,
Here are my thoughts from a guys point of view.
I wouldn't worry about the fact that he called you his girl friend. I suppose that he could have called you his date, but the girl friend thing is a term of endearment.
I would be worried about his beer drinking capacity. That could be a problem.
As far as his cologne goes, just ask him to switch to another. He will do it in a heart beat.
Well, those are my thoughts..... over and out.
Oh, and another thing, you are concerned that there were no deep thoughts. Well, guys don't have deep thoughts. I know, because I am a guy. -

Compare Your Personality Now As Compared When You Were A Good JW
by minimus ini often think of how certain posters were in the old days when they were true believers.
you know, people like francois, farkel, ozziepost, hillary, alanf and so many others.
most of these people come across as very astute and persons that are nobody's fools.

Minimus,
I really don't know what your point is on this thread. The ones who left and were strong, were strong. Those who left, who were weak, were weak. So what is your point????????? -

Being your own best friend!
by LDH intonight while reading sheila m's post about thunder's parents not even saying anything nice to him when he got his book published, put me in mind of something i've been thinking for a while.. today, all you hear about is "self-esteem" this and "self-esteem" that---a lack of it causes everything from suicide to eating disorders and everything in between.
i believe concerned parents today are much more in tune with rewarding postitive behavior by reinforcing it through praise.. as a jw child, what special assaults on your self-esteem did you suffer and how did you deal with it?.
in short, are you your own best friend?

Well,
I don't really buy anything written here. My life has had it's share of shit, just like yours, so, get on with it. Stop
complaining and just live, for Christ's sake.
Is it my intent to piss you off? You bet it is! -

Ravyn,
I will take you up on your offer. There are two problems here. First off, I have written thousands of posts, so you could learn a lot about me, if you read these. The second problem is that I can not get access to people's email address. You can reach me at [email protected]. -

by SpiceItUp ini honestly want your answers to the following questions.
(i am trying to find out what jw's think on these things to determine what my parents may say in response if i ask them any of these)
question #1can individuals read & understand the bible alone, or do they need an organization and its publications to do so?

SOJ,
Let me see if I understand you correctly. The Jehovah's Witnesses can make all kinds of mistakes as long as they continue to preach God's Kingdom. Now, if that is your major premis, how does that make them different than any other Christian Church?
You consider the teaching by Rutherford regarding the "ancient worthies" and Beth Sarim to be of minor consequence. I should think that it would have been of major consequence for the faithful who lived at that time. Picture yourself, living at that time, and I don't think you would have thought of it as a minor doctrine.
You said, "I guess some publications" gave an implication. Have you ever read those publications? I have, and they were very explicite about the details of the crazy doctrine, before and after 1925.
I think borgfree, gave a very graphic and heartfealt discription of what it was like back then.
I could go on and give you more detail, but I am tired of writing about the subject at this time. -

One other thought,
For the true believers out there, give me one quote from a psychic that predicted 9-11. I don't think you can do it.
I am sure that you can find some vague quote about the world having some kind of calamity. Well, that could cover a lot of ground don't you think?
If the psychics have these psychic powers, why didn't they inform our government? -

Rem,
As I think you know, I fully agree with your point of view. As James Randi, a very accomplished magician has pointed out, these so-called psychics are total frauds. It is OK to use magic and trickery as a form of entertainment, but it is immoral to cheat people out of large sums of money with the same techniques.
I feel very sorry for those who buy into this form of fraud. At best, they are buying into a bad idea. At worst, they are being cheated out of money, sometimes, lots of money.
To who ever mentioned an open mind, I would say that an open mind should also contain a modicum of critical thinking.
As scientific inquiry goes, scientists are not very good at spotting deception. Magicians with some scientific training are better at it. James Randi is a good example. Before his time, Harry Houdini was another example. Houdini's work on this subject was reported in the Scientific Amrerican, a very prestigious journal.
